Application July 27, 1945, Serial No. 607,403
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to neckwear, and more particularly to necktie having collar-attaching means for securement to the shirt collar of the wearer.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved necktie adapted to be readily secured to the collar flaps and the shirt front of the wearer, and acting to maintain the collar flaps in place.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved necktie of simple construction which is adapted to be quickly and easily secured in position by means hooking under the collar flaps whereby the collar flaps are held neatly in desired position and wherein means are provided for securing the body portion of the necktie to the shirt front.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description and claim, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the supporting structure for a necktie in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of a necktie carried on the supporting structure of Figure 1, shown mounted in position with respect to a shirt collar.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the necktie structure of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is la, detail view in side elevation of the tie knot-forming portion of the supporting structure of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a rear elevational view of the tie structure of Figure 2 showing the clip means employed for securing the necktie to the shirt front.
Referring to the drawings, the supporting structure for the necktie comprises a flat strip l of rigid material, such as plastic or the like, at the upper end portion of which is secured a downwardly tapered block 2 of wood or the like, which provides a form for the knot portion of the necktie. The top of the block 2 is formed with a. transverse groove 3 in which is secured, as by gluing, a stiff U-shaped wire member 4, which may be covered for most of its length by a plastic sleeve of desired color. Wire 4 is formed with a pair of upwardly projecting side loops 5, 5 adapted to engage the neckband of a shirt collar for properly positioning the necktie, and the end portions of said wire are formed with coil spring portions 6, 6 from which project the ends of the wire 1, 1, sharpened to form downwardly directed spurs. Spurs I, I are adapted to penetrate the fabric of the under surface of the shirt collar flaps and to maintain the necktie in position with respect to the collar. The lower end of strip I carries a clip member 8 adapted to be clipped onto the adjacent edge of the shirt front when the necktie is placed in position.
Wrapped around and glued to block 2 is a piece of fabric 9 simulating the knot of ta, necktie, and secured beneath piece 9 and depending therefrom is the main fabric flared necktie portion II], the rear fold thereof being slit at H, whereby the lower end of strip l carrying clip 8 protrudes therefrom. The top portion of block 2, carrying wire member 4 is covered with fabric so asto complete the simulated knot of the necktie.
It can be readily seen that when the necktie is positioned between the collar flaps of the shirt with spurs 1, 1 engaged with the fabric at the under surface of the collar flaps, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the flaps will be held down and will be prevented from curling. Coil spring elements 6, 6 provide spring tension to maintain the simulated knot portion of the tie in the space underlying the upper portions of the collar flaps and in centered positions with respect thereto.
Clip 8 is engaged with the adjacent edge portion of the shirt fabric to thereby hold the main necktie portion 10 against the shirt front.
While a, specific embodiment of a necktie structure has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A neckwear structure comprising a rigid strip, a downwardly tapering block carried by the upper end of said strip and being transversely grooved at the upper end, a U-shaped wire member including an intermediate portion covered by a colored plastic sleeve and glued in the groove of said block, said member also including upwardly projecting side loops each at one end of the intermediate portion and adapted to engage the neckband of a shirt collar, said member also including end portions extending in diverging relation from an end of a. loop and terminating in \a. spur, said spurs being adapted to penetrate a shirt collar flap, 9. clip member carried by the lower end of the strip, a piece of fabric simulating the knot of a, necktie and wrapped around said block, a main fabric flared necktie portion secured at its upper end to the inner side of the CHARLES W. PENNOCK.
