HENRY G. NEER AND SAMUEL L. NEER, OF BRECKENRIDGE, ASSIGNORS OF ONE-THIRD TO SAMUEL ROSENWALD, OF SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS.
CHECK ROWER AND MARKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 242,354, dated May 31, 1881,
Application filed March 14, 1881. (ModeL) To all whom tt may concern Be it known that we, HENRY O. NEER and- SAMUEL L. NEER, citizens of the United States, residents atBrecken ridge, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check Rowers and Markers; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will to enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2, a detail.
This invention relates to improvements in check rowers and markers.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, Ais the pole of a planter, to which the device is attached by bolt B,which passes through cross-bar D above and 0 below.
Secured to the ends 0 c of cross-bar O are the forward upturned ends 0 c of shoes E E, whose right-angled rear ends, 0 0, support a transverse bar, F, connected at the middle to the rear end of bar A, carrying at its ends f f the seed-boxes G G.
H is a slider-bar, having holes h h and turned-down ends it h ,which latter enter openings g g in the sides of the seed-boxes at the bottom. The tops of these boxes are slittcd 5 at g g, and in these slits are located the ends 2' 'i of a bar, I, having in its body the slots i 2'.
Through one of these slots passes a finger-rod,
K, having its lower end, It, in the hole It below said slot, and connected above by a sleeve, 40 k, to a rod, L.
Hinged to the ends (I d of bar D are the ends on m of the side rails, which are twisted at m m, carry a bar, N, near their ends m m and have said ends formed as eyes, in which is journaled the transverse shaft P. To the ends 11 12 of this shaft are secured the markers Q, of any desired number, there being a sleeve, g, between these and eyes m Formed at the ends of any determined number of these markers are the pins q, extending at right angles outward from the arm g Formed upon one arm of each set of markers is the tapped lug R, the said lugs extending inwardly from the arms to which they are secured.
To the under side of the bar N, inside of eyes W, are secured eyes'r, transverse to said bar.
In these eyes are journaled the cranked levers S S, having an arm, 8, extending outward under side rails, M, and another, 8, upward behind bar N and shaft P. The ends of arm 8 are connected by a loosely-jointed rod, T. Secured to this rod is a bracket, V, which extends backward over the seed-boX-supporting frame, and has a series of holes, a, in which is 6 hooked the end of rod L.
Pivoted to the front of bar N, just over bar A, is a hook, IV, having the outer curved camsurface, to, and the inner, 10, forming a point, Z. This hook W serves the double purpose of holding the markers down when in use by hooking under bar A, and keeping them up when not in use by bearing on the upper face of said bar.
What we claim is 1. In a check rower and marker, the combination, with the markers Q, having the tappets R, of the crank-levers S S, having arms 8 8', connected by the loosely-jointed rod T, provided with the perforated bracket V, the rod L, finger-rod K, slotted bar I, and seed-slide H, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a check rower and marker, the combination, with the poleA and a pivoted or hinged marker-frame, of the cam-hook IV, pivoted centrally to the bar N of the marker-frame, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY O. NEER. SAMUEL L. NEER.
