2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in the compression links of tractors.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a novel compression link of a tractor, which may be released from its drafting effort when the tractor is to cross a gully or go up a steep bank, so as to permit the tension links to properly perform their duties, and prevent the implement, that is being drawn by the tractor, from improper interference with its work.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a novel compression link of the kind described, which is simple, cheap, strong, durable, not likely to get out of order, and which is emcient in its operation.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a tractor provided with my improved compression link, shown in its operative position.
Fig. 2 is a side view, enlarged of my improved compression link, shown in its operative position.
Fig. 3 is a side view of my improved compression link, shown in the release position.
Fig. 4 is a top edge view of the compression link, shown locked in its operative position.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts in the difierent views.
I designates generally a tractor of usual type having the usual two tension links 2.
My improved compression link. comprises a forward upwardly and rearwardiy extending stationary bar 3, and a rear load attaching means, consisting of the following described parts.
Two parallel rear bars 4 are disposed at opposite sides respectively of the bar 3 to which they are oscillatively pivoted, adjacent to their front ends, on a transverse horizontal axis, comprising a bolt 5, at a point spaced from the ends of the bar 3.
The bars 4 are provided with releasable locking means comprising a link 8 slidable thereon from the locking position, shown in Fig. 2, to a release position, shown in Fig. 3. In the locking position, the link 6 also embraces the adjacent end of the bar 3. A stop block 1 fastened to the under edges of the rear bars 4 limits the forward movement of the locking link 6. Said stop block I also serves as a means for limiting the upward swinging of the bars 4 to their upperoperative position, by
contacting with the under edge of the stationary bar A short bar 8, fastened by two bolts 9 between the bars 4, extends rearwardly back of said bars 4 and has through it a hole ill, by which a draft attachment may be made to an implement to be drawn.
The forward bolt 9 serves to limit the rearward movement of the locking link 6, to a position, shown in Fig. 3 at the rear of the bar 3, where the link permits the bars 4 to lower.
In operation, with the compression link, in its operative position, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, will perform its functions in the usual manner. When the tractor is to cross a gulley, or go up a steep hill, the locking link 6 is slid from the locked position, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to the release position, shown in Fig. 3, releasing the bars 4 and permitting them to be swung downwardly to the release position, shown in Fig. 3, in which position, the compression link will permit the tension links 2 to properly perform their functions, and prevent the digging deeply of the drawn implement, not shown, into the soil.
Upon the upward swinging of the bars 4 to the operative position, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the locking link 8 is slid to the locking position, shown in Fig. 2, in which it will also embrace the bar 3 and hold the bars 4 in the adjusted position.
Many modifications of my invention, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. In combination with two tension draft links of a tractor, a compression draft link of the kind described mounted on the tractor and having a forward upwardly and rearwardiy extending stationary bar, a rear load attaching means oscillatively pivoted on a horizontal transverse axis to said bar' so as to be swung downwardly from an upper load drafting position to a release position, means for releasably looking to said bar said rear load attaching means in said upper load drafting position, and means limiting the upward swinging movement of said rear load attaching means to said upper load drafting position.
2. In combination with two tension draft links of a tractor, a compression draft link of the kind described mounted on the tractor and having a forward upwardly and rearwardly extending stationary bar, two parallel rear bars at opposite sides respectively of said bar and oscillatively pivoted on a horizontal transverse axis to said bar SQ as in be swung downwardly from an upper two bars are in their upper load drafting posi-' 5 tion, load attaching means between and fastened to said two bars at the rear of said stationary bar, and means limiting the upward swinging 0! said two bars to said upper load drafting position.
