Description

Jan. 14,- 1947. YOUTHER 1 2,414,464
noon STOP Filed July 29,. 1943 Inventor Jakw Z )wiber Patented Jan. 14, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in door stops, the principal object being to provide a simple construction which can be readily attached to the lower portion of a door for holding a door in open or partly opened position.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a door stop which is of simple construction and capable of being placed on the market at a low cost.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawing- Figure 1 represents an edge elevational view showing the device applied to a door.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevational View showing the device applied to a door and in elevated position.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of the stop block.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals refer to like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes a door to which the improved stop generally referred to by numeral 6 is applied.
The stop 5 consists of a plate I having a barrel formation 8 at its lower end and this barrel formation 8 is notched at its ends as at 9, these notches being at the upper portion of the barrel formation.
The stop further consists of a U-shaped wire carrier In having leg portions a, a and a bight portion 12. The free ends of the U-shaped carrier 10 are provided with inwardly bent portions H which are disposed into the ends of the barrel formation 8, it of course being understood that the carrier It is of spring material and as is shown in Figure 2, the leg portions a, a are coiled as at I 2 so that there will be sufiicient spring force to maintain the inwardly turned portions I I in the ends of the barrel formation 8.
Numeral l3 denotes a stop block of rubber or some other like material which has an opening l4 longitudinally therethrough and thisblock is slit inwardly from one side thereof as at [5 to meet the longitudinal opening l4 so that the block can be opened and slipped over the bight portion 1) of the carrier I0. It is preferable that the block be of some polygonal cross section such as triangular.
The stop device is moved to the position shown in Figure 1 when it is desired to hold a door in a given position. However, when it is desired to dispose the stop device out of the way, it is elevated and brought against the door 5 above the plate 7, at which position the end portions of the legs a, a will snap into the notches 9 and the device will be held in this elevated position. Obviously, when it is desired to lower the device, all that is required is that the coils I2, [2 be gripped and the legs pulled slightly apart so as to remove the same from the notches 9, after which the device can be swung downwardly to the position shown in Figure 1.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A door stop comprising a plate adapted to be flatly secured to a face of a door near the bottom of the latter and having a single barrel formed on its lower edge, said barrel having notches in the upper portions of its ends, a substantially U-shaped spring wire member including bight and leg portions, said leg portions having inturned free ends pivotally engaged in the ends of said barrel and being formed intermediate their ends with coils tensioned to cause the portions of the legs adjacent the ends thereof to spring into said notches for releasably retaining said wire member in upwardly swung position against and above the bottom of the door, and a floorengaging block mounted on the bight portion of said wire member.
2. A door sto comprising a plate adapted to be flatly secured to a face of a door near the bottom of the latter and having a single horizontal barrel, said barrel having notches in the upper portions of its ends, a substantially U-shaped spring wire member including bight and leg portions, said leg portions having inturned free ends pivotally engaged in the ends of said barrel and being tensioned tocause the portions of the legs adjacent the ends thereof to spring into said notches for releasably retaining said wire member in upwardly swung position against and above the bottom of the door, and a floor-engaging block mounted on the bight portion of said wire member.
