11 Claims.
This invention relates to hosiery driers, its object being to provide an improved drier which is of simple form and convenient to operate; which eiiiciently distributes heated air to all parts of the hosiery, both internally and externally; and which embodies an improved arrangement of parts for controlling position of the hosiery forms during unloading and loading, and at the same time serves as a part of the means for indexing and locking the movable carriage upon which the hosiery forms are mounted.
Further objects of the invention in part are obvious and in part will appear more in detail hereinafter.
In the drawing, which represents one suitable embodiment of the invention,

The drier shown in the drawing comprise a general frame or housing I B enclosing an air supply chamber ll open at its bottom, a heating chamber i2 communicating therewith, and a drying chamber i3 open to the atmosphere at the outlet M. Air drawn in at the open bottom, around legs 55, is delivered by fan or blower iii through the duct i! to a seriesoi steam heating coils l8, traveling upward around an inverted conical bafile l9 to a central opening 29 and a surrounding annular opening 2|, through which it enters the drying chamber.
Opening 20 is in the bottom of a movable work supporting carriage, shown as including the rings 22, 22a supported by radial arms 23 on a central pin 24 rotatable in a support 25. Mounted to rotate with the ring is a cup shaped baille or shield 25.
Distributed at regular intervals about the central axis are a number of hollow hose supporting forms 2?, the walls of which are suitably perforated, as by slots 28, to permit air flow therethrough. Each form has a bell shaped base or bottom 29, pivoted at 3%] upon ring 2211, with the opening through its bottom lying directly over the annular opening 2|. Each form bottom also is provided with a ward, in the form of a projection 3|, adapted to register with and enter a small opening 32 in ring 22. The legs and feet of the several forms all extend upwardly plan view, on the line 2--2,
- the form, by the flow through and along it erated, performs its into, and travel around in, an annular portion 33 of the drying chamber located between the walls of the bafiie 26 and casing H], the latter having an opening 34 at one side which is of rectangular form and of a width slightly greater than the overall width of two forms.
At One point, opposite about the center of the opening i l is mounted a locking and form tilting pin 35, yieldingly moved upwardly or advanced by compression spring as, and limited as to upward movement, by its collar 3'! engaging ring 22, as shown in Fig. 4. Directly below the door opening, a horizontal deflecting plate 38, of wedge shape, deflects heated air away from the door opening and protects the machine operator.
The bell shaped bottom of each form is cut away or chamfered ed at an angle, as at 39, on that side of pivot pin 30 opposite opening 2|.
Assuming that one of the'forms is in its tilted loading position, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. l, and in Fig. 4, the indexing pin 35, at the loading station or position of the tilted form, is projected upward or advanced and lies in one of the openings 32 in the carriage thus locking and holding the carriage stationary with the tilted form extending outwardly through opening 34 and lying in a position convenient for loading or unloading. The operator now dresses 2. wet or damp stock ing upon the tilted form and pushes the dressed form back into the drying chamber until it reaches the upright position shown in full lines Fig. 1 and in Fig. 3. This motion causes the ward 3| to enter opening 32 and depress or retract pin 35 to the position shown in Fig. 3, enabling the operator, by side pressure applied to one form, to manually turn the entire carriage in one direction or the other, say to the left, until the next form reaches the loading station. During travel of the carriage the imperforate part of ring 22 holds down the pin 35, but when the next form arrives at the loading station, pin 35 automatically rises or advances, entering the next opening 32 and tilting the next form to theposition shown in Fig. 4;, ready for unloading and reloading, the form remaining in this position by reason of its center of gravity moving beyond pivot 30.
The next form is loaded like the first, is pushed back into the drying chamber, and similar operations may be repeated indefinitely.
Each stocking, during its travel around the central axis is thoroughly dried and shaped on of dry heated air around, from nd to end.
The drier is of ,very simple form, is easily optask efiiciently, and includes locking, indexing and form tilting mechanism of extremely simple and efiective form.
Other advantages of the invention will readily occur to those skilled in the art.
What I claim is:
1. A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, means rendered eiiective by rotation of work support for so tilting each form.
2. A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, and a yielding member arranged to both look the work support and tiit the form as each form reaches the open A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, said support being of circular form and having a series of locking recesses distributed around it. one for each form, and a locking bolt so located as to enter each recess as the work support is rotated step by step.
4. A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, said support being of circular form and having a series of locking recesses distributed around it, one for each form, and a locking bolt so located as to enter each recess as the work support is rotated step by step and to engage each form and tilt the same to loading position.
5. A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing to a tilted position in which it extends outside of said chamber, said support being or circular form and provided with an inner central opening and an outer annular. opening and a ring separating said openings, said forms lying above the annular opening, means for directing a stream of heated air upwardly through said openings, and a bafile member having an imperforate circular plate portion lying above said ring but near the lower ends of said forms and blocking air flow through the central portion of the central opening and also having a cylindrical wall near to but spaced from said forms and extending upwardly along the same, to provide a narrow annular space between said two walls in which the forms travel and through which the air stream flows, thus restricting air flow to the region closely neighboring the forms and increasing the drying efficiency.

A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, and a movable operating device located opposite the side opening of the casing and rendered effective by rotation of the work support and arranged to engage each form as it reaches a position opposite said opening and thereby impel it toward its said tilted position.

A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, and a movable operating device located opposite the side opening of the casing and rendered effective by rotation of the work support and arranged to engage each form as it reaches a position opposite said opening and thereby impel it toward its said tilted position, each form being provided with means arranged upon manual restoration of the form to upright position to engage said operating device and restore it to its original position ready for its next operation.

A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms 10- cated side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and. adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, and a yielding normally retracted tension device located opposite the side opening of the casing and released for advance movement by rotation of the work support, said device being arranged so that upon its advance movement it engage each form as it reaches a, position opposite said opening and thereby impels the form toward its loading posiion.

A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with, a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, and a yielding normally retracted tension device located opposite the side opening of the casing and released for advance movement by rotation of the work support, said device being arranged so that upon its advance movement it engages each form as it reaches a position opposite said opening and thereby impels the form toward its loading position, each form being provided with means arranged upon manual restoration of the form to upright position to engage and energize and retract said tension device to a position ready for its next operation.

A hosiery drier, comprising a hollow casing having a drying chamber provided with a side opening, a work support movably mounted in said chamber and carrying a series of hose forms located side by side in upright position, each form being pivotally mounted upon the support and adapted when opposite said opening to swing through it to a tilted loading position in which it extends outside of said chamber, said support being of circular form and having a series of looking recesses distributed around it, one for each form, and a locking bolt so located as to enter each recess as the work support is rotated step by step, each form being provided with means arranged to retract said locking bolt when the form is restored from its tilted to its upright position.
