ATTORNEY Patented June 25, 1946 Application November 30, 1944, Serial No. 565,879
3 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a night gown and is more particularly referred to as a two piece night gown.
More specifically, the invention proposes a two piece night gown which is characterized by a night gown brassiere portion having shoulder straps and a night gown skirt portion. It is proposed that these .two pieces be worn together, or separately, as desired.
Still further the invention contemplates a modified construction of the two piece night gown, characterized particularly by means for connecting the two pieces together.
Still further the invention proposes a two piece night gown which is simple, attractive and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure- Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a two piece night gown constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a back view of the gown shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side elevational view looking in the direction of the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional perspective view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
' Fig. 5 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken on the line 5--5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 7 is a front elevational view of another gown constructed in accordance with another form of this invention.
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed view of a portion of Fig. 7.
Fig. 9 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional perspective view substantially taken on the line 9-9 of Fig. 7, and particularly showing the back faces of the parts.
The two piece night gown, in accordance with that form of the invention, illustrated in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, includes a night gown brassiere portion l having shoulder straps H. A night gown skirt portion I2 i used in conjunction with the brassiere portion. The shoulder straps l l are not the usual narrow straps used on slips or the like garments, but are wide straps to add to the attractiveness of the garment. The ends of the shoulder straps II are stitched to the front and back portions of the brassiere portion ID. The brassire portion I0 is open along one side beneath one of the arm pits and this open side is normally closed by a line of buttons and buttonholes 14. The night gown skirt portion 12 has a top slit at one side extending a short distance down from the waist, and this slit is also closed with a line of buttons and buttonholes [5. The top edge of the skirt portion 12 is finished with a tubular edging l6.
Heretofore it was customary for night gowns to be of one piece. The advantages of the two piece construction are numerous. The parts may be worn individually, or worn together, and they may be Worn in conjunction with other sleeping garments.
In Figs. 7 to 9 inclusive a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the prior form distinguishing merely in the fact that a fastening means is provided for connecting the brassiere portion and skirt portion together. This connecting means include several straps 18 located slightly above the bottom edge of the brassiere portion, upon the inner face thereof, and secured in position by a top line of stitches I9. These straps l8 have bottom hooks 20. The tubular edging is formed with slits 2| at positions directed below the straps l8. Loops 22 are mounted within the tubular edging [6 directly below the slots 2|. The hooks are adapted to engage the loops 22 for releasably connecting the sections of the garment together.
The tubular edging It is also formed with slits 23 along their side faces at the areas provided with said loops 22. These slits 23 are useful in assisting in engaging and disengaging the hooks 20 from the loops 22 while the straps l8 extend into the tubular edging I6 through the slits 2|.
In other respects this form of the invention is identical to the prior form and like parts may be recognized by like reference numerals.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a two piece garment, a top garment section having several depending straps with bottom hooks disposed slightly above the bottom edge of said garment section, a bottom garment section having a tubular top edging formed with top slits through which said straps may be engaged, and loops mounted within said top edgin to be engaged by said hooks.
2. In a two piece garment, a top garment section having several depending straps with bottom hooks disposed slightly above the bottom edge of said garment section, a bottom garment section having a tubular top edging formed with top slits through which said straps may be engaged, and loops mounted within said top edging to be engaged by said hooks, said slits formed in said top edging at area occupied by said loops for facilitating the engagement and disengagement of said hooks with said loops.
3. In a two piece garment, a top garment section having several depending straps with hook
