1 Claim.
The present invention relates to an improvement in knitting machines. An object of said invention has been to provide a decker point construction which cooperates with latch type needles in a manner to receive stitch loops therefrom and deposit stitch loops thereon regardless of whether the latch is then open or closed. In this respect, it is therefore a more general object of the invention to provide a decker point which i can be made to operate more effectively and with greater certainty than is'possible with known .forms of decker points.
One embodiment of. my invention in a. form adapted for use in connection with a fiat knitting machine is described in the following specification and illustratedin the appended drawing in which Figure lis an enlarged side view with portions broken away;

As shown in Figure 3, when the decker point as 182 reaches needle engaging position, it is moved downwardly and readily engages the needle hook in theslot between said tlps'lll3, regardless of whether the latch is down, that is closed, or V rocked back'to open position. As the needle returns into the front bed and the hook thereof passes the ends of a portion of the front bed comb, the latch closes down over the ends of said tips 8l3, Figure 4. The needle is then further withdrawn into the front bed to its retracted or neutral position, leaving the stitch loop suspended on the decker point. Thereafter the decker points with said loops suspended thereon are moved to a new position oppo ite the needles upon which the loops are to be-deposited. For this purpose the decker points move downwardly over the exposed hooks of said needles in such a manner that the ends or tips 8|3 thereof come behind said hooks.
