The primary object of the invention is the provision of a heel of this character, wherein the section thereof having the greatest wear is readily and conveniently removed for replacement of a new section at the tread of such heel, and this section is such that it can be made fast in place without the use of pegs, nails, screws or the like, or in other words it does not require tackings for such purpose.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a heel of this character, wherein the renewable area thereof can be made from plies of brous materials having increased wearing qualities, thereby giving maximum life wear to such heel, the renewable section being of novel and unique construction.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a heel of this character, wherein the renewable section thereofis self latching for the firm and secure fastening of the same in place on the heel, and is suspectible of convenient detachment when required.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a heel of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in purpose, strong, durable, readily and easily attached and detached, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawing in detail A designates generally a portion of an article of footwear, which may be of any standardconstruction, and B denotes the heel thereof constructed in accordance with the invention.
The heel B comprises a permanent heel body I0, which has a renewable tread section I I which is preferably of segment formation congruous with a countersunk seat I2 provided in the body I0 and opening through the rear and side edges thereof to effect an inner step I3 therein. The section II and the step I3 are interlocked by a tongue and groove overlapping joint I4 therebetween at the said step and edge of the section next to each other.
The heel body I0 is permanently fastened in place on the footwear A by fasteners I4, while the section II is renewable and is snap fastened in the seat, this being eiected by the dove-tailed shape inwardly tapering key-formation I5 on the inner face of such section II, which is located at the rear edge thereof. The is insertable in a correspondingly shaped key-way I6 provided in the ceiling Il of the seat I2 and opening through the rearmost edge of the body I0 for wedge-like sliding action in such seat.
The outer face of this key formation is provided with a centrally located inwardly sloping latchingnib I8 for the rm and secure fastening` of the section II in the seat, yet such section can be detached when the occasion requires, especially on the wearing away of the same through use thereof, the said section being pried from the seat for renewal of such section. This nib I8 is designed to enter a holding notch I 9 therefor in the key-way I6, and the section II requires no other fastening for holding it in place in the seat I2 in the heel B. The nib I8 is inherently compressible in kind.
What is claimed is:
A heel of the kind described, comprising a permanent body having a countersunk seat opening through the rear thereof, a, renewable section for the seat, and having its forward portion interlocked with the body, releasable dove-tailed shaped connections between the body and section and a latching nib included with said connections.
