Description

(No Model.)
0. R. SABI'N. Billiard Tablg Leveler.
' Faten'ted March 29,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHAUNGEY It. SABIN, OF BUCHANAN, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ALBERT D. HICKS, 0F SAME PLACE.
BlLLlARD-TABLE LEVELER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,556, dated March 29, 1881.
Application filed February 11, 1881. (No model.)
' eled, which shall convey to the beholder the idea, as far as possible, of an ornamental finishing cap to the leg, by the use of which said devices, especially billiard tables, may be quickly, accurately, and permanently leveled.
The construction of my device consists in a cylindrical cap having a flange extending a little below its bottom inclosure and a threaded bolt secured in the center of the bottom of said cap, located perpendicularly, with one end extending a little below said bottom, forming a short pendent pintle, and the other end extending well above said bottom and upper rim of cap.
Its construction further consists in a plate convexed on its upper face and having a semispherical depression or hole in the center of said plate to receive the pendent pintle of the cap. The leg to which the device is attached has a hole formed in the lower end from the bottom upward,in which is located a threaded shouldered nut to receive the upper end of the threaded bolt.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perpendicular section of the leveler and a leg to which it is attached Fig. 2, side view, with a portion of the upper flange of the cap cut away, showing location of the lower end of the leg; Fig.
' 3, top view of leveler, Fig. 4, top view of floorplate, and Fig. 5 view of the leveler detached from the leg.
B illustrates a table-leg with shouldered threaded nut e in lower end. D is the upper flange of the cap, and I the lower flange. F is the floor-plate, having depression or hole S, receiving the pendent pintle. a is the threaded bolt. The nut 0 may be secured in leg B by means of screws through holes in the corners of its shouldered flange. (Seen in Fig. 3.) Holes 0 c are made in the leveler for the insertion of lever L when operating the device, Figs. 1 and 3.
It will be observed that flange Ijust clears the floor and surrounds the floor-plate F in a manner to nearly obscure it from view, said flange appearing to rest on the floor when looking down upon the device attached to the table-leg; also, that flange D surrounds and obscures the lower end of the leg, so that a slight lowering or raising of said leg would not be perceptible to a casual observer.
Should it ever be found necessary, friction ballsor wheels may be located in spherical pockets between the floor-plate F and the bottom of the cap, to obviate any rocking or unsteadiness of the table.
It is designed to attach a leveler to each leg of the table, (though not necessarily so,) and to nickel-plate them, when the device is considered to be both ornamental and useful.
In operating the device, in raising a. corner or end of a table, lever L is inserted in hole 0 and the cap revolved to the left, which causes nut c to ascend bolt a, carrying the leg with it. Thus, with the assistance of a spirit-level or its equivalent, the table may be quickly and permanently brought to an exact level.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The leveler consisting of the cap with upper and lower flanges or rims, the floor-plate, having a depression or hole receiving the short pendent pintle, and the upward extending threaded pintle, with the threaded nut located in the supporting-leg of a table or other device, all substantially as specified, for the object set forth.
2. The supporting-leg of a billiard-table or other device, in combination with the leveler consisting of the cap with upper and lower flanges, the floor-plate, convexed on its upper face and having center depression receiving the pendent pintle, the threaded nut in the leg receiving the upward-extending threaded bolt, and means for operating said leveler, all substantially as specified and shown.
3. The supporting-leg of a billiard-table or other device requiring to be leveled, in combination with the leveler, consisting of cap with flanges D I, holes 6 e, threaded bolt a and located in the table-support, and a pendent pendent pintle, nut c, and lever L, all substanpintle, and means for operating said leveler, 1o
tially as specified, for the object set forth. all substantially as set forth. 4. As a means for leveling tables and siini- 5 lar devices, a leveler consisting of a cap hav- I OHAUNGEY SABIN' ing a rim or flange extending above and be- Witnesses: 10W its horizontal inclosnre, and the upward- A.
