TOOL FOR DRIVING GLAZIERS POINTS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 239,265, dated March 22, 1881.
Application filed September 24, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY D. MUSSELMAN, of Lancaster, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Tool for Driving Glazing-Points, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved tool, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, partly in section.

them in a plane with the tool, and pressing or driving them into the sash.
The invention consists, in constructing a tool for driving glazing-points, of a magnet having platesattached to its upper and lower sides, anda handle ofl'setting at an oblique angle from the plane of the magnet, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the magnet, which is of the horseshoe pattern. As shown in the drawings, the bent part of themagnct A is covered upon the upper and lower sides with plates B, to keep the arms of the magnet from springing when the implement is in use.
To the magnet A, or to the plates B, is attached a handle, 0, which should incline upward, so that it can be conveniently grasped and held while the tool rests squarely upon the glass. The handle 0 may be made hollow, and may have its outer end closed by a screwcap, D, so that it can serve as areceptacle for carrying the points.
In using the tool a number of points are thrown upon the glass, which are taken up, one at a time, by the magnet, as indicated in Fig. 1, and held in line with the plane of the tool, so as to be in position to be pressed into the wood. In case the sash is made of wood so hard that the points cannot be pressed into it, they can be first started by pressure, and can then be driven into place by means of the flat side edge of the magnet, used as a hammer. The tool can also be used with advantage for picking up points from the glass, as they will all adhere to it at the same time, so as to save much time and many points which otherwise would be wasted.
In defining my invention more clearly, I
would state that I am aware that hammers have been made with a cylindrical extension at right-angles to the handle, which extension has been magnetized, so as to attract a tack and hold it until it is driven. This could not, however, be used for inserting glaziers points, which are in the nature of flat three-cornered bits of tin or sheet-iron.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A glaziers tool for inserting points or triangular bits of tin or sheet-iron, consisting of a horseshoe-magnet, A A, having a handle oft setting obliquely from the bend, and plates B B, arranged on the sides of the magnet, as and for the purpose described.
HENRY D. MUSSELMAN.
