IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-PLANTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 23,915, dated May 10, 1859.
Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, R. B.GILBERT, of Sutherland Springs, Bexar county, and State of Texas have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corn-Planters; and '1 do hereby declare that the t'ollowingis a full,clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my in1- proved corn-planter. Fig. 2 is a bottom view, showing the cylinder and its connection with the treadwvheel. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the share and seed-conveyor.
Similar characters of reference in the several figures denote the same part.
The nature of my invention consists in a pcculiar arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, in the construction of cornplanters.
In the drawings, b are the beams; c, the hopper on the beam, having under it a cylinder, (1, in which are seed-chambers, and which is revolved by bands jj, extending from it around the axis of thetread-Wheelg, so that movement of the wheel also turns the cylinder 01. a is the share or opener; c, the seed-conductor, which extends from the cylinder (1 to the concave of the share a. t i are the coverers, and h a scraper to clean the wheel g.
The operation is as follows: The seed, being placed in the hopper 6, goes into the cell or chamber of the cylinder, which,beingconneeted with wheel g by bandsj j, is turned by its revolution and the seed emptied into the conductor c and by it conveyed down into the furrow made by the share a, and is covered over by the eoverers'i i, and the furrow pressed down by the tread-wheel g.
I claim- The arrangement of the share a, coverers it, conductor 0, cylinder d, and hopper 0, wheel -g, and scraper h, tor-joint operation, as herein set forth.
