Application September 20-, 1944, Serial N 0. 554,916
2 Claims.
This invention is a hanger for supporting and disposing marine cables, pipes, conductors, and the like in ships, buildings and other places. and it is an improvement on the hanger disclosed in the application of John A. Carpenter, Serial No. 539,477, filed May 30, 1944, for Hanger.
The general object of our invention is to provide a simplified and improved hanger of the character stated, which may be more readil assembled or taken apart and its clamp members interchanged and rearranged for supporting and disposing cables, conductors, pipes and the like of the same or diiferent diameters, as desired.
A further object is to provide a hanger of the character stated which has no interfering parts above or outside of the cables or thelike which are clamped on the hanger.
The invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of our invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly broken away andin section of our invention.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of our invention.
Fig. 4 is a cross section of our invention taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an end view of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a perspective of one of the work clamps of our invention.
Fig. 7 is a perspective of the screw-pressure plate of the work clamp shown in Fig. 6.
Referring more particularly to the drawing in which corresponding parts are designated by the same reference characters in all of the figures I indicates a hanger channel bar bent upwardly near its ends into securing members 2.
The hanger channel bar I is formed with a base wall 8 and side walls 9, and its end securing members 2 are provided with bolt openings ll.
Cables, pipes or the like 33 disposed in a suitable arrangement, are extended across and over the hanger bar I and rest upon the upper or outer side of the base wall 8 of said hanger bar, and said cables, pipe or the like are clamped on said hanger bar as hereinafter described.
The base wall 8 of the channel hanger bar I is provided with a plurality of transverse slots 35, which are so spaced from one end of said bar to the other between the securing members 2 as to receive a plurality of U-shaped clamp straps 36 of difi'erent widths or of the same width to be extended over the upper halves of the cables, pipes and the like 33 corresponding in diameter to the widths of said clamp straps, respectively,
Each of the U-shaped clamp straps 36 is formed with an arcuate intermediate engaging member I and. spaced side member 38, extending from the ends, respectively, of said intermediate member, and the remote ends of said side members are bent inwardly forming inturned flanges 39 upon which rests a pressure plate 40 provided with a threaded opening 4| to receive a set screw 42.
Each of the U-shaped clamp straps 36 is slipped over a cable, pipe or the like 33 extending across the hanger bar I, and the side members: 38 of the clamp strap are extended through two slots 35 in the base wall 8 of the hanger bar. A pressure plate is slipped under the hanger bar I and between the side members 38 of the clamp strap 36 upon the flanges 39 on the lower ends of said side members; and a set screw 42 is threaded upwardly in the threaded opening 41 in the pressure plate 49 until the upper end of said set screw engages the under side of the base wall 8 of the hanger bar I, whereby said pressure plate and the clamp strap 36, with its flanges 39 engaged by said plate, are thrust downwardly by said set screw until the intermediate member 31 of said clamp strap 36 engages the upper side of a cable, pipe or the like 33 and clamps the same upon the base wall 8 of the clamp .bar I.
We claim:
1. A hanger as disclosed including a hanger bar provided with slots therein, over which bar may be extended cables, U-shaped clamp straps extended over said cables, respectively, and. their ends extended through said slots, respectively in said hanger bar, and means engaging said hanger bar for drawing said clamp straps against said cables for clamping said cables on said hanger bar.
- 2. A hanger as disclosed including a hanger bar provided with a plurality of transverse slots suitably spaced longitudinally of said hanger bar, over which bar may be extended cables, U-shaped clamp straps extended over said cables, respectively, with the side members of each strap extended through two of said transverse slots respectively, in said hanger bar, the ends of said side members of each clamp strap being formed with inturned flanges, a pressure plate resting upon said flanges between said side members of each of said clamp straps, and a set screw threaded in said pressure plate with the end of said set screw engaging the under side of said hanger bar.
