SASH-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,627, dated March 8, 1881.
Application filed August 5, 1880.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I,WILLIAM HENRY WOLF- RATH, of the city and county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Railroad-Oar-Sash Manipulators, of which the following is a complete and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
This invention relates to sash fasteners which are operated by a knob, spring, and sliding rod; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of parts, hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 represents a side view of a portion of a sash with my fastening devices attached, also a part of the frame with which the fastening bolt engages. Fig. 2 represents the fastener in perspective, some of the parts being slightly modified.
The fastening-boltA passes through the side of the sash near its lower end, and is provided with a spring, I), that forces it outward. From the rear end of said bolt a rod, (1, extends to the end of acrank-arm, 0, carried by the shank of a knob, E. This crank-arm is also provided with a pin, a, which is arranged to engage the (MOdcL) lower end of a lever, 0, that is pivoted at its middle, and connected at its upper end to the rear end of a rod, d. The forward end of said rod is attached to the rear end of bolt A. When said knob is rotated in one direction the draft of arm 0 on rod (1 withdraws the bolt. When said knob is rotated in the other direction the action of pin 0 on lever 0 effects the same result through rod d.
The fastening-bolt may have either a barshaped end, as shown in Fig. 1, or a recessed head, as shown in Fig. 2. In the former case it engages with recesses in the frame, and in the other case with a rack attached thereto.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Ina sash-fastener, the combination of the fastening-bolt A, spring I), and rods 61 d with the pivoted crescent-shaped lever c, the crankarm a, stud or pin 0, and knob E, said parts being connected and operated substantially as set forth.
