This invention relates to certainnew and useful improvements in attaching clips for ear ornaments; a i i a The primary object of the invention is to provide anattaching clip for ear ornaments wherein.
an ear ornament is attached to the lobe of the ear of the wearer by means of a tensioned clip. A further object of the invention isto provide an ear ornament and attaching clip therefor wherein the connection between the plate-like ornament of the ear ornament and the attaching clip comprises a pedestal to the upper end of which one end of a clip lever is removably and pivotally attached, with a spring element interposed between the ear ornament and pivoted end of the clip for tensioning the; latter and forcin the free end of the clip in. a direction-toward and into'engagement with the ear ornament.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an ear ornament and attaching clip of the foregoing character wherein a spring element interposed between the plate-like element of the ear ornament and the pivoted end of the clip is operative for holding the clip perpendicularly positioned relative to the plate-like element so that the device may be applied by one hand. i i
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinaftermore fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

The attaching clip 16 is of blade-like formation and functions as a lever, one end-of the clip lever l6 being angularly bent out of the planeof said clip and enlarged into disk formation as at I! for engagement with the lobe of the ear of a wearer. The coil spring 15 may be rotatably adjusted. upon. the pedestal ll to position the lower terminal end l5! of the spring I 5 and the thereby obtain increased tension on the clip I6. Such tension of Spring l may be reduced by rotatably adjusting the coil spring l5 to displace.

In the form of invention shown in Figures 4 and 5, the body ID with its pedestal H and clip I 6 are of the same construction and design as the corresponding elements in Figures 1 to 3, but in lieu of the coil spring I 5 there is substituteda leaf spring 22 shown in developedplan view in Figure 5 as being forked at one end as at 23 and having an eye 24 at its other end. The leaf spring 22 has its eye 24 first engaged with the hook M at the upper end. of the pedestal l I and thereafter flexed as at 22a, with the forked end 23 straddling the lower end of the blade-like pedestal and being engaged with the adjacent face of the body It]. The edge Wall 2411 of the eye 24 is then engaged by the finger extensions 2| on the pivot end disk N3 of the clip to be depressed thereby for positioning the opening Hi to receive the hook l4, pivotal movement of the clip [6 then moving the ear lobe-engaging end I! toward the body Ill. In this formof the invention it will be observed that maximum force of the spring 22 is exerted at the end 2411 on the finger extensions 2| rearwardly of the pedestal II for obtaining maximum tensions on the clip I 6.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed thatthe construction and use thereof'will at once be apparent and while there are herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. In an attaching clip for ear ornaments, an
ornamental body having 'a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end pivoted on the upper end of-the' pedestal, and a spring interposed between the body and pivoted end of the clip lever for forcing the free end of the clip lever into engagement with said body, said pivotal connection including a separable hook and eye.
2. In an attaching clip for ear ornaments, an ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, '-a clip lever having one end pivoted on the neotion including a hook on the upper end of the pedestal and the adjacent end of the clip being I of disk-like form and having an eye therein for the reception of the hook.
3. In an attaching clip for ear ornaments, an ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end pivoted on the upper end of the pedestal, and a spring interposed betweenthe body and pivoted end of the clip'lever for forcing the free'end of the clip lever into engagement with said body, said spring being of the coiled type and surrounding the pedfestal, the clip lever extending a short distance rearwardly of the pedestal with the upper and lower terminal ends of the spring aligned rearwardly of the pedestal and engaged with the short end of the clip lever to produce maximum tension on the clip lever.
4. In an attaching clip for ear ornaments, an ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end pivoted on the upper end of the pedestal, and a spring interposed between the body and pivoted end of the clip lever for forcing the free end of the clip lever into engagement with said body, said pivotal connection including a separable hook and'eye, said spring being ofv the coiled type and surrounding the pedestal, the clip lever extending a short distance rearwardly of the pedestal with the upper and lower terminal ends of the spring aligned rearwardly of the pedestal and engaged with the short end of the-clip lever to produce maximum.

In an attaching clip for ear ornaments, an ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end pivoted on the upper end of the pedestal, and a spring interposed between the body and pivoted end of the clip lever for forcing the freeend of the clip lever into engagement with said body, said pivotal connection including aho'ok on the upper end of the pedestal and the adjacent end of the clip being of disk-like form and having an eye therein for the reception of the hook, said spring'being of the 'coiled type and surrounding-the pedestal, the clip lever extending a short distance rearwardly of the pedestal with the upper and lower terminal ends of the spring aligned rearwardly of the pedestal and engaged with th short end of the clip lever to produce maximum tension on the clip lever.
6. In an attaching clip for ear ornaments, an ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end pivoted on the upper end of the pedestal, and a spring inter- 40 posed between the body and pivoted end of the clip lever for forcing the free end of the clip lever into engagement with said body, Said spring being of the leaf type with a fork at one end for straddling the pedestal and an eye at the other end through which the upper end'of the pedestal passes, the clip lever extending a short distance rearwardly of the pedestal with the outer end of the eye portion of the leaf spring engaged with the shorter end of the clip lever to produce maximum'tension on the clip lever.
7. In an attaching clip for ear ornaments, an ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end pivoted 0n the upper end of the pedestal, and a' spring interposed between the body and pivoted end of the clip lever for forcing the free end of the clip lever into engagement with said body, said pivotal connection including a separable hook and eye, said spring being of the leaf type with a fork at one end for straddling the pedestal and an eye at the other end through which the upper end of the pedestal passes, the cliplever extending ,a short distance rearwardly of the pedestal with the outer end of the eye portion of the leaf spring engaged with the shorter end of the clip lever to produce maximum tension on the clip lever.
8. In an attaching clip for ear ornamentsan ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end pivoted on the upper end of the pedestal, and a spring interposed between the body and pivoted end of the clip lever for forcing the free end of the clip lever into engagement with said body, said pivotal connection including a hook on the upper end of the pedestal and the adjacent end of the clip being of disk-like form and having an eye therein for the reception of the hook; said spring being of the leaf type with a forkat one end for straddling the pedestal and an eyeat the other end through which the upper end of the pedestal passes, the clip lever extending a short distance rearwardly of the pedestal with the outer end of the eye portion of the leaf spring engaged with the shorter end of the clip lever to produce maximum tension on the clip lever. I
9. In an attaching clip forear ornaments, an
ornamental body having a pedestal rising therefrom, a clip lever having one end loosely and removably engaged with the upper end of the pedestal, and a spring interposed betweenthe body and pivoted end of the clip lever for forcing the free end of the clip lever into engagement with said body, saidspring having an inter-fitting connection with said pedestal for maintaining the spring in operative position relative to the l l associatedclip lever.
