COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 23,829, dated May 3, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH Cox, of Phila delphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, forming part of this specification, in the several figures of which similar char actors of reference denote the same part.

The nature of my invention consists in forming above the upper oven plate, a chamber communicating with the external air and tire chamber, for the purpose of equalizing the temperature of the upper portion of the oven and at the same time aiding combustion.
In the drawing a is the upper plate of the stove.
Z) is the upper oven plate, and 0 (Z and 0 plates forming the chamber f, having openings 2" in the sides of the stove, and small et openings 2' to the fire chamber C.
The current of air through chamber f prevents the intense heat usual in the upper portion of the oven, besides aiding combustion, by its issue from openings i, in the front edge of the chamber.
I am aware that external air has been brought into the fire chamber to aid combustion, and therefore do not claim that as the scope of my invention, but
hat I do claim is The chamber f above the top oven plate, communicating with the external air and tire chamber substantially as described; whereby there is effected, the double function of aiding combustion and equalizing the temperature of the upper portion of the oven.
