Definitions
- My invention has reference to making pails from paper; and it consists in a combination of cylinders so shaped that the body of the bucket is properly formed, as hereinafter explained.
- A is the tank to hold the pulp.
- this tank revolves the cylinder B, covered with wire-cloth to take up the pulp and deposit it on the coucher or cylinder 0, which is covered with felt-cloth.
- Both these cylinders have a slightly-tapering form, but are journaled so as to bring their surfaces in close contact their entire length.
- the revolving of the cylinder 0 causes the cylinder B to revolve regularly with it, but in theopposite direction.
- the cylinder D is provided with a jacket of some smooth sheet metal, to which the sheet of paper will adhere when transferredfrom the cylinder 0, and it lies in close contact with the cylinder 0, by which it is revolved by means of friction.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EBER HUBBARD, OF ST. JOSEPH, MICHIGAN.
MAKING PAILS FROM PAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,120, dated February 22, 1881.
Application filed January 24, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EBER HUBBARD, of St. Joseph, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Making Pails from Paper, of which the following is aclear, full, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, makinga a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is aperspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of same.
My invention has reference to making pails from paper; and it consists in a combination of cylinders so shaped that the body of the bucket is properly formed, as hereinafter explained.
Toenable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, 1 will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
A is the tank to hold the pulp. In this tank revolves the cylinder B, covered with wire-cloth to take up the pulp and deposit it on the coucher or cylinder 0, which is covered with felt-cloth. Both these cylinders have a slightly-tapering form, but are journaled so as to bring their surfaces in close contact their entire length. By this means the revolving of the cylinder 0 causes the cylinder B to revolve regularly with it, but in theopposite direction. On one side of cylinder 0, I place another cylinder, D, with corresponding taper, the smaller end pointing in the same direction as shown in Fig. 2. The cylinder D is provided with a jacket of some smooth sheet metal, to which the sheet of paper will adhere when transferredfrom the cylinder 0, and it lies in close contact with the cylinder 0, by which it is revolved by means of friction.
The operation of my inventionis as follows The pulp is taken up by means of the wirecloth on cylinder B, and is deposited on the coucher or cylinder G, from which the sheetis transferred to the forming cylinder D, on which the paper is wound until it reaches the proper thickness for the body of the pail. The jacket is then removed and another takes its place. The body thus formed in proper sh ape for the pail is ready, when dry, for finishing.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
,1. The combination of tapering cylinders for forming the pulp into the proper shape for the body of the pail, substantially as herein described.
2. The process herein described for forming the body of pails from paper, the same consisting in forming the paper on cylinders having the proper taper of the pail, as herein described.
EBER HUBBARD.
