This invention relates to looks, and more par ticularly to an adjustable cylinder lock constructed of a number of elements of such form and arrangement that various selected elements may be employed to provide locks of diilerentsizesand of different types.
In the usetof cylinder locks-and particularly pin tumbler locks, it is necessary to provide a number of different kinds and sizes of cylinders for various lock applications- For example, doors with which the locks are used vary inthickness,-
and it is desirable to use cylinders of various lengths so that the outer faceplate of the 'cylirrder will be substantially flush with the door orwith an escutcheon mounted upon the door. Also, depending upon the type of lock with which the cylinder is used; it is often necessary to vary the construction of the inner end of the cylinder.
For example, in connection with mortise looks a I contemplate by the present invention the pro-- vision of a cylinder lock, and more specifically a pin tumbler lock, having a housing or casing within which the tumbler mechanism and key In the accompanying drawing:

One object of the present invention is to provide a cylinder lock'constructed of a plurality of detachable or separable elements some of which 'may be selectively used in building the completed lock.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cylinder lock mechanism having a basic structure comprising a housing, tumbler mechanism, and a key barrel, and also comprising a plurality. of
selectively attachable elements; whereby a. plurality of locks of difierent types and sizes may be built upon the basic structure.

Secured to the rear end of the key barrel by screws i4 is a disk-shaped member 15, which member, as will be apparent from Fig. 4, is larger in diameter than the key barrel, so that, when it is.-secured to the key barrel, the latter will be eifectively retained in place by this disk and the head l3. As shown more especially inFigs. 2 and 5, the walls oif-the-body I ll may be cut away at the sides, as at l6, leaving a cylindrical portion I! at the rear end of the part it].

The section I8 is secured in place by meansof screws whichpass through the rear-section and enter threaded openings 24 in the body portion l0. It may also benoted that the rear section of the lock is provided with a cut-away or recessed portion 25 adapted to receive the disk l5. so that the front face of the section l8 may fit snugly against the rear face of the section In. It will also be noted that the hub 20 of the rollback fits snugly against the disk l5 and will rotate therewith and with the key barrel l2, all oi these parts being rotatably associated with the resp tive casing sections.
As will be explained hereinafter, the basic body portion ll) of the lock may be used with parts other than th part l8, this latter part being employed when a rollback is to be used, and is employed with the basic section [0 and without other parts when a short cylinder is desired.
As shown in Fig. 6 of the drawing, a plurality of spacing elements ma be employed between the sections in and iii in order to'increase the length of the cylinder lock. Three of these sections are shown in Fig. 6, but it will-be understood that as many may be employed as is desired.

The first of these sections. designated by the numeral 30, is shown in Fig. 10 of the drawing and is designed to be placed against the end of the section ID, as it is provided with a relatively large opening 3| to rotatably receive the disk l5, which, it will be recalled, is of larger diameter than that Of the key barrel. When only one spacing section is employed it will be understood that the rear section l8 will be placed directly against the section 30, and the cylinder thus built will be as much longer than the one shown in Fig.
In Fig. 7 of the drawing I have shown a lock' designed to be employed with a night latch or rim latch, for example. In this instance the front with the parts contained therein as previously described, including the disk l5 employed to hold the key barrel in place.

The disk ll is provided with a rectangular opening 43, and also with an elongated or slot-like opening 44 to receive square and flat spindles, respectively, so that this structure may be used with a spindle of either form. In Fig. 7 of the drawing a fiat spindle 45 is shown, with its end extending into the slot 44 so that the spindle will be rotated by the rotation of the key barrel. Also, as shown in Figs. '7 and 8 of the drawing, the body portion 10 of the lock is provided with threaded openings 46, extending through the cylindrical portion I! of the body, which are adapted to receive screws 4 as the thickness of the section 30. It may also (not shown) to mount the case upon the door.
The operation and construction of the above described parts are believed to be clear from the description given. It will be apparent, however, that I have shown a construction which may be employed to build a plurality of locks of differentreadily detached or assembled, and economically veniently of the same diameter as the ke barrel 30 and 32 are provided with openings 31 to re-- ceive screws 23 therethrough so as to secure all these sections to the section l0 by the same screws which are used to secure the rear section 18 in place. Also, the spacing disks 34 ar provided with openings 38 which receive the screws 22 used to secure the rollback in place. and it will be seen that these openings will register with the openings 39 in the hub of the rollback through which these screws pass, and with openings 40 in the disk I5 (Fig. 9) which are threaded to receive the screws.
It will be apparent from Fig. 6 of the drawing that the cylinder lock built up of the various sections and assembled in th manner described will have substantially the same exterior appearance as a one-piece cylinder, but at. the same time will be readily adjustable as to length, depending upon the number of the spacing sections employed between the body section III, and the rear section 18. Moreover, the parts are read ly detachable, it only being necessary to remove the screws 22 and 23 to release the sections of the lock casing, and also the spacing elements and manufactured. Moreover, in any of the various forms shown the lock will give the appearance of being a unitary structure, and will operate as a unitary structure. Also, each of the sections which are used with the basic portion l0,,whether reference is made to the rear section l8 or the spacing sections 32, consists of a main section of substantially the same diameter as the cylinder itself, and a disk portion or spacing disk rotatably mounted within suchmain section.
While I have shown and described some 'pre-' ferred embodiments .of my invention, it. will be understood that it is not to be limited'to all of rear face of said housing, each of said sections comprising a main portion secured to the housing and conforming in outline thereto, a disk-like member rotatably mounted in said main portion and connected to the key barrel, and a lockactuating element secured to said disks and to the key barrel.

A cylinder lock comprising a housing provided with tumblers and having a'key barrel rotatably mounted therein, a member secured tothe inner end-of the key barrel to retain it in the housin a rear section detachablysecured to the rear end of the housing, a rollback rotatably mounted in said section on an axis coincident with that of the key barrel, means securing said rollback to said member, and a spacing section disposed between said housing and said rear section, said spacing section comprising a main Mounted against the 1 face of the disk I5 is a second disk 4|, of the same portion secured to the housing and a disk rotatable in said portion and secured to said member and to the rollback.
3. A cylinder lock comprising a housing provided with tumblers and a key barrel rotatably mounted therein, a disk secured to the inner end of the key barrel to retain it in place, a spacing member secured to the rear end of the casing and having an opening to rotatably receive said disk, a rear section comprising a main portion secured to the casing and having a recess, a second disk rotatably disposed in said recess and secured to the first disk, and a rollback having a head rotatably mounted in the rear section and secured to said disks.
4. A cylinder lock comprising a housing provided with tumblers and a key barrel rotatably mounted therein, a disk secured to the inner end of the key barrel to retain it in place, a spacing member secured to the rear end of the casing and having an opening to rotatably receive said disk,
. a rear section comprising a main portion secured to the casing and having a recess, a second disk rotatably disposed in said recess and secured to the first disk, a rollback having a hub rotatably mounted in the rear section and secured to said disks, and an additional spacing member between said first spacing member and the rear section, said additional spacing member comprising a main portion secured to the housing and an additional disk member rotatably mounted in the main portion and, secured to said other disks and to the rollback.
5. A sectional lock comprising a housing, a key barrel rotatably mounted therein, tumblers associated with said key barrel and housing to control the rotation of the key barrel, a plurality of spacing sections at the rear end of the housing, each of said sections comprising a main portion detachably secured to the housin and a disk-like member rotatable in said main portion and detachably secured to the key barrel, and an end section detachably secured to the housing and having a rollback rotatably carried thereby, said rollback being secured to said disk members and to the key barrel, and the thickness of said disk members being substantially equal to that of said spacing sections.
6. A cylinder lock comprising a housing provided With tumblers and having a key barrel rotatably mounted therein, a rear section detachably secured to the rear end of the housing, a rollback rotatably mounted in said section on an axis coincident with that of the key barrel, means securing said rollback to the key barrel, and a spacing section secured between said housing and rear section and conforming in outline with the housing, said spacing section comprising a main portion having an opening therein and a disk rotatably disposed in said opening, and said securing means passin through said disk.
