'No. 237,964. Patented Feb. 22,1881

N- PETERS, FHDTDJJTHOGRAFHER.WASHINGTON D O,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
A, JUDSON OURTISS, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
STOVE-SUPPO RT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,964, dated February 22, 1881.
Application filed May 7, 1880. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, A. J UnsoN OURTIss, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stove-Supports, of
5 which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is the construction of a wedge or rest to be used in connection with a stove-leg provided with a wheel or caster in its base, whereby a stove provided with caster-legs is caused to remain firmly in a given location, and the necessity of removing the caster-wheel and of the construction of cumbersome double legs previously employed is obviated.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of the stove-leg as I prefer to construct it, having a portion of its base shown cut away, showing the location of the wheel. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same; Fig. 3, a bottom view of leg and wheel. Fig. 4 shows top view of the wedge, and Fig. 5 indicates the manner of its use.
A is the stove-leg, having an orificed ridge, B, cast or formed on its inner face, into which orifice the pintle c of the wheel 0 is detachably or otherwise inserted.
D is the wedge or rest-block, constructed with the level portion I, inclined rearward por- 0 tion I), shoulder a, and incision 0.
When the stove has been transported to the desired location, one person, by raising the stove at the location of one of the legs sufficiently to insert beneath said leg the rear end of the wedge, can then easily drive said wedge 3 5 under, owing to its peculiar construction, till the front flange of the base of the leg rests on the level portion I, the shoulder at preventing said wedge from being driven under too far, and also preventingthe stove from being jarred 0 off the wedge. The incision 0 receives the wheel 0, thus allowing the wedge to be driven under the leg without interfering with said wheel, and holds the same in proper position. The weight of the stove is thus removed from 5 the caster or wheel.
What I claim is-- 1. The stove-leg A, with its orificed ridge B, and wheel 0, with its pintle c, in combination with the wedge D, constructed with level por- 50 tion I, incline Z), shoulder a, and incision 0, all substantially as described and shown, for the object set forth.
2. The combination of a stove-leg provided with a caster or transporting wheel with the 55 wedge or rest- D, for the object set forth.
A. JUDSON OURTISS.
