This invention relates to brassieres. More par- I ticularly, the invention relates to the constructionof thebreast supporting pockets of garments th s. typ a d k d to give two such po k ts a firmness and yetfiexibility to support thebreasts in a raised, comfortable and non-bindingposi tion. -Then0ve1features of the invention will be best understood from the following description when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed, and inwhich the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, andin which: 1
U Fig. -,1 is a diagrammatic front view of abrassire showing the ,partsin extended position.
n, .Fig. 2 is aview similarto Fig.1 showing, only apartof theconstruction and illustrating a modiflcation, i an i Fig. 3 is a view similarto Fig. 1 and showing an independentpocket formingmember.
i .Fig. 4 is a partial section on the lineal-Iii of n Fig. Land 1 g ,n H n n Fig. 5 is a sectionaldetail viewofra portion of a padded fabric employed in the construction of apocket ofthe brassire. (if A Itis thE IJIim QIMDUIDOSB of myfpresent in-.
vention to construct the breast supporting pockets 'of a brassiere orpockets used forthe support of breasts in a'xgarment wholly. or 'partiallyo'f a padded tmateriaLthat is to say, alrelatively firm body which is identified as a pad faced on inner and outer surfaces withsuitable materials and in. stitching these sheets of materialtoge'ther-in a quilting manner to form of the resulting com posite structure asoft, flexible andyet relatively firm bodyfor supporting the breasts in raised, youthful position.
' .In Fig. lot the drawing, I have indicated one I adaptation of the invention and at lllfand H' are shown' two breast pockets of similar constructioneach having atthe upper edge portion thereof curved and cohcaved-segmentsll adapted to fit over the nipple and adjacent areas of the breast, as me. 1 v
Each pocket lflf'il comprises a i central V- clearly illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawshaped portion" i3' preferably composed of a relatively firm rubber sheeting which may be faced on inner andouter surfaces or this section may be composed of an elastic fabric of any desired construction." In other adaptations of the in vention, the section l3 maybe composed of relaa tively firm sheetings'of metal or plastic materials, which in' turn may be face' 'cl"on"inrier"and At 14 are shownwhat maybe termed the inner "sectionsflof the pockets .[0 and l i, the sections being alse substantiallyutriangular in form and at l.5. ,are shown outer or side sections also substantially triangular ,in form, the sections. H d fferingfromthesections I75 substantiallyj rithe arrangement of lines of stitchings thereon; the stitchings 16 onflthe sections M being" substantially, vertical, ,whereas the .stitchings ii on the sections 15 are substantiallyhorizontal) ,Both
of.l.the sections.l4t and,l5. areconstructed from,
three sheetings as indicated in detail in mg; 5 vof lthe drawing; that .is..-to say, a central "sheeting i8 is faced on the inner surface by'a sheet l9 preferab ygof a structure presenting asoft inner surface by virtue of a .nap oripile .20 thereon and anouterlsheetingj I. The sheeting '18 may be in a thelform o'fa felt or cotton pad or maybe formed fromganyi other suitable material having rigid or semi-rigid. characteristics,.. bearing in mind that the sctiOns ,l4'and, [5 must .be free to flex in conforming-with theicontouritoffthe breast. (At thisitime, it isralso ,well to pointuout that the trimming and. finishing materialsiof the garment are. omitted mmhe sake of .claritvand in some instances sheet 2 I may constitute an'outer facing sheet .forthe respective sections.- H-The'sectionsfll 4. and I5 are stitched. or otherwise! secured to.side edgesfofnsections i3, asiindicated at 22. The sections [3 in combination' with the sections ll 4.. upport' the greater part of-the load of (the breasts whereas the sections l5 'extendhto the sideslofc the body .in maintaining the breasts in position, .and forthisreason the stitchings l6 arefarrangedmvertically on thesections i4. The pockets lli-andMlL may be used separately according to theateachings of Fig. 3 later described orflassembled in, forming. a brassiere garment in which, ,latterginstance adjacent sections I4 are joined by suitable strapsas at 23, which may" be whollysor'partially composed ofelastic material.
Attached to-upper, vouter cornea-portions of the sections i 5 are shoulder straps 24.-hav ing' adjustable ibuckles, asindicated at 25 "and these straps may "also include elastic portionslas seen at 25. The -rear'- ends of the straps 24 are coupled with arbody encircling strap 21, the" forward ends of which are coupled with the sections l5 adjacent the lower portions thereof and suitable means suchfor example as-a buckle 28 .adjustably couples the strapfl to fit about the body of the wearer. It is also preferred that elastic inserts ;29 be employed in the-strapil to preventbinding,
-- In Fig; 2 of the drawing, lhave illustrated another adaptation of. the invention and as both pockets are of identical construction, only one pocket is disclosed in order to simplify the illustration. ,In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the
pocket is composed of two sections 31 and 32 instead of three sections, as shown 1n Fig. 1, the
section it being of a type and kind similar to the to the sections I5, the two sections being stitched or otherwise secured together centrally of the pocket a'sfi'rfidiatedsat fiii Elk-represents a s ment similar to the Segment I2"a.t the top of the pocket, 35 the straps similar to the straps 23, a. part of the shoulder strap and 31 a part of the" encircling strap.
