f 'Ihe present invention relates to a display or merchandising rack provided with a display drawer adapted to store and display merchandise of various types. v
The present application is a division of our copending application, Serial Number 376,146, led January 27, 1941, which application is in turn a division of our application, Serial Number 234,-
868, filed October 14, 1938, issued as Patent No..
2,255,744, dated September 9, 1941, which latter application is afcontinuation-in-part of our application, Serial Number 182,276, led December 29, 1937.
Amongfthe objects of the present invention is to provide a sheet metal display rack provided with a sheet metal drawer, and wherein simple,
rigid constructional means are provided for the topand drawer slides of a display rack; to provide means for guiding the drawer in its horizon- Y following specification, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Only so much of the present invention as pertains to the subject matter is disclosed in the drawing and described in thespecication of this application. 'I'he related subject matter is shown y and described in Patent No. 2,255,744, dated September 9, 1941, of which the .present application l is a division. It will be apparent that only the topmost portion of the display rack is illustrated in Figure-1 of the drawing,
In general, ther display rack itself comprises a base portion (not showmhaving mounted thereon side and rear walls which support atop wall. The sides of the display rack are provided with a pair of side wall members 22 adapted to support shelf and trough structures, as well as a top means of suitable spacing lugs or trusses (not shown). One of the forward vertical edges of the inner panel member is preferably formed as at 32, as shown in Figure 4, to provide a suitable front molding along the front edges of these side wall members. The congurated portion is shaped to co-act with an inturned flange 34 on the adjacent forward edge of the outer panel 24 to provide a straight and unobtrusive seam or line of juncture. It will be noted that the boxlike molding or enclosure 32 on the forward edge of the inner panel 26 is open at one side, the opening being closed by means of a vertically extending strip 36.` The strip 36 has. its forward wall engaged by the configuration 32, and has its rearward edge overlying a portion of the flat enclosing wall, as will hereinafter appear `more wall 26 and preferably secured thereto, for i'nstance, as by welding.
The back wall of the assembly consists of a sheet panel memberM bolted along either side edge to suitable flanges forming the rear extremi ties of the innerside panels.
The top wall of the present display or merchandising rack comprises a substantially flat, hori zontal sheet metal member 46 having bothside edges,.as well as its rear edge formed downwardly as at 48, and providingv an` inwardly offset, vertical ange 50, to which are rigidly bolted upright walls 24 and 26 and the rear wall 44 through the agency of bolts 52. The front edge of the wall 46 terminates in a downwardly projecting flange 58. The upper side edges of the unit are provided with a casing of rectangular nished molding or rail pieces. The molding piece on the front of theunit (Figure2) consists of a longitudinal-v ly extending'sh'eet metal. member 60 formed in a substantially rectangular configuration open on one side, as clearly shown in Figure 2, to fit over the forward edge of the top wall. It is secured to avdownwardly extending flange of the top wall 58 by vwelding or any other suitable fastening means'.
In addition, the two side and rear walls are provided'with detachable molding pieces, same being fastened byclip members, all as duly set forth and claimed in a co-pending divisional application filed substantially concurrently with the ling of the present application. Inasmuch as the details of construction of 'these molding or rail pieces are not claimed in the present invention, no further showingor description thereof is deemed necessary. In Figure 1 the rail pieces are shown in position; in Figure 2 the lower portion '60 of the front rails isv shown. The side rails and end rail are not shown in any of the other views, except Figure 1.
The construction shown in Figure 1v is not claimed herein since it forms the subject matter of the United States Patent No. 2,255,744, of September 9, 1941. The details of construction of the drawer structure for supporting various types of displays forms the subject matter claimed in our co-pending application, Serial No. 376,146, led January 27, 1941, of which this application is a division.
The drawer structure comprises a drawer having a bottom wall or floor |30, upon which is mounted a rear upstanding wall |32. The for ward part of the drawer comprises anupstanding Wall |34 having forwardly projecting upper and lower anges |36 and enclosed by an outer wall or facing |38, the top portion 4U of which extends rearwardly and engages in overlying relation the upper edge of the wall |34. The lower portion of the front wall |38 extends downwardly to a considerable distance and is reversely bent as at |42 to provide a stop or abutment. The forward edge of the bottom |38 of the drawer is further flanged downwardly as at |44 and is secured by welding against the front facing wall |38. The side walls |46 of the drawer (see Figure 4) are welded as at |41 to the flanges |48 or the front and rear walls |34 and |32, respectively.
In accordance with the features of the present invention, the drawer structure is supported upon roller guideways comprising outwardly facing channels |48 (see Figure 3) extending longitudinally of the drawer for accommodating lrollers |50. Additional rollers 52 are pivotally mounted adjacent the lower portion of the drawers for engagement with a xed channel-shaped guideway |54. The side edges of the drawer bottom |38 are flanged downwardly as at |3| and are coextensive with adjacent side surfaces of the side wall |46 of the drawer to provide a support for a pivot |56, upon which the roller |52 is mounted. The wall |46 is further flanged inwardly as at |51 along its lower edge for additional rigidity.
The relatively fixed portions of the guide structure for guiding the drawer comprises a pair of relatively transverse channels |58 having their side flanges cut away adjacent either end and the base portions thereof bent downwardly as at |60 for securement to the inner side panel 25 of the side supporting walls 22 by means of suitable fasteners |62. The transversely extending channels |58 support brackets |64 which are provided with a horizontally extending lower flange |66 welded to the channel. These brackets are additionally fastened to the rack wall 26 and to the depending flange 56 of the top of the rack adjacent the upper edge of the bracket |64 by means of the fasteners 52, thereby joining the top and side assemblies. The drawer supporting rollers |50 are pivotally mounted on the fixed brack ets |64 at |5|, and the channel member |54 is mounted at the bottom portion of this bracket |64. The drawer is accordingly mounted for free, anti-friction movement with respect to the fixed portions of the rack through the agency of the rollers |56 and |52 and with their cooperating guideways hereinbefore described. The stop abutment flange |42 forming a part of the front wall |38 of the drawer cooperates with the forward face of the front, transversely extending channel |58 for locating the drawer in closed position.
A further stop abutment plate |68 is bolted as at |10 to a longitudinally extending angle bracket |12 (see Figure 3), preferably welded on the bottom of the drawer, and this stop |68 extends downwardly and is adapted to abut the rear portions of the forward, transversely extending channel member |58 to prevent complete withdrawal of the drawer when in open position.
The bottom surface |30 of the drawer is apertured at regularly spaced points |14 to receive merchandise positioning pins |16. The side walls |46 of the drawer are extended forwardly and flanged as at |18 (see Figure 4) to facilitate welding to the forward or facing wall |38 of the drawer. Handle members |88 are secured by machine bolts |82 to the drawer, the bolts passing through walls |34 and |38.
In addition, a bridging member |83 is located between the front wall and the channel member |34, the free ends of the bridging member |83 being welded to the front wall |38, and the bolt l trating the invention.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a drawer and slide construction for a' display rack in combination with opposed side members formed of sheet material, a top secured thereto, a channel member extending transversely of and between said side members and aiiixed thereto, a vertical bracket secured to each side member and to the channel member, a drawer adapted in closed position to underlie said top, said drawer including a bottom and opposed sides, each drawer side having a horizontally channel-shaped strip affixed to the outer face thereof, and a roller pivoted on a confronting face of each bracket for riding in the confronting channel-shaped strip, and a second strip disposed on the inner side of each bracket, and a second roller aflixed on each side of said drawer and guided by one of said second strips.
2. In a drawer and slide construction for a display rack in combination with opposed side members formed of sheet material, a top secured thereto, cross members extending transversely of and between said sides and aixed thereto, a vertical bracket securedvto each side member, each of said brackets having at its bottom an inwardly extending ange overlying and secured to a cross' member, a drawer adapted in clo-sed position to underlie said top, said drawer including a bottom e and opposed sides, said sides and bottom having contacting flanged portions depending below the plane of said bottom and interengageable means on said brackets and on the drawer sides including anti-frictio-n rollers for guidingly supporting said drawer in inward and outward horizontal movements of said drawer relative to said display rack, one of said anti-friction rollers being mounted on and supported by said depending flanges and rolling on one of the inwardly extending iianges of said vertical brackets.-
