This invention relates to a support bracket for brake rigging associatedwith a railway car truck, and the subject matter of this, application isdivided out of applicants co-pending application, Serial No. 444,389, filed May 25, 1942, in the United. States Patent Office, now Patent No. 2,364,021,.dated Nov. 28, 1944.
The object of this invention 'isto design a novel support bracket of the above described type which may be associated with a frame member of a railway car truck and may afford support for an associated cylinder and a fulcrum for an associated truck lever.
I In the drawings, Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a railway car truck and brake arrangement embodying my invention, and Figures 2 to 4 inclusive show in detail my novel form of support bracket, Figure 2 being a top plan view thereof, Figure 3 being an end elevation taken form the left as seen in Figure 2, and Figure 4 being a side elevation.
Describing my invention in detail and referring first to Figure 1, the railway car truck illustrated may be of conventional type comprising a side frame 2 with a bolster 4 supported thereon in customary manner by a spring group (not shown), and the side frame 2 may be supported adjacent each end thereof by a wheel and axle assembly fragmentarily indicated at 6. The
assembly 6 may be braked by means of a beam 8 which may carry a brake head I and an associated brake shoe l2 for engagement with the periphery of the adjacent wheel, and said beam may be supported by means of a. guide lug 13 received within a bracket I4 which may be conveniently. formed on the side frame for that purpose. The beam 8 may be actuated by means of a lever l5 fulcrumed therein in customary manner, and said lever may be connected by a pull rod l6 to'the adjacent side of the 'bolster 4. Said lever I5 may also be connected by a pull rod H] to a dead truck lever which may be pivotally fulcrumed intermediate its ends as at 22 from my novel support bracket generally indicated at 24 and mounted on the adjacent side of the bolster 4 in the illustrated embodiment of my invention. A cylinder 26 may be mounted on the bottom of said bracket and the piston rod of said cylinder may be pivotally connected at 28 to th lower end of the deadlever 20.
The above described truck and brake arrangement is shown and described in detail inmy said co-pending application, and it is therefore believed that'a further description of said arrangement is unnecessary at this point.
' 9Clailns; (Cl. 188-205) The bracket 24 is shown in detail in Figures 2 to 4 inclusive and said bracket may comprise the bottom wall 30 which may merge with front and rear webs 32 and 34, and the front web 32 may taper at 36, 36 toward the upper end thereof. The upper end of the front web 32 may be formed with spaced flanges or lugs 38, 38 which may comprise aligned openings 40, 40 'therethrough for the reception of pivot means securing a lever such as the lever 20, shown in Figure'l, within the fulcrum jaw 42 (Figure'Z) -defined by the front web 32 and the'fianges"38, 38. Aavertic'al reinforcing'web'or chord 44 maybe integrally formed with the wall 30 and with the front and rear webs 32 and 34 and said chord may extend from endto end of the wall 30 and from top 'to bottom of the Webs 32 and 34,
It is to be understood that I do not wish to be limited by the exact embodiment of the device shown which is merely by way of illustration and not limitation as various and other forms of the device will, ofcourse, be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a railway car truck frame member, a support bracket associated therewith, said bracket having a rear web, and means securing said rear web to an adjacent vertical wall of said member, said bracket having a bottom wall lying in a plane inclined with respect to the horizontal, a tapered front web with spaced flanges defining therewith a fulcrum jaw for an associated lever, said bottom wall being formed with means for the removable securement thereto of an associated cylinder, and a reinforcing chord lying in a vertical plane bisecting the bottom wall, said chord extending from end to end thereof land from top to bottom of said Webs.
2. In a support bracket, front and rear webs, and an integral bottom wall, said front web tapering toward the upper end thereof and being formed at said upper end with spaced flanges defining therewith a fulcrum ja'w, said rear web and bottom wall being formed respectively with securing means for said bracket and for an associated cylinder, and a reinforcing chord lying in a vertical plane bisecting said bottom wall, said chord extending from end to end thereof and from top to bottom of both of said webs.
3. In combination, a railway car truck frame member, a support bracket associated therewith, said bracket having a rear web, and means removably securing said rear web to an adjacent vertical wall of said member, said bracket having a bottom wall lying in a plane inclined with respect to the horizontal, and a tapered front web with spaced flanges defining therewith a fulcrum jaw for an associated lever, said bottom wall being formed with means for the removable securement thereto of an associated cylinder.
4. In a support bracket, front and rear webs, and an integral bottom wall, said front web tapering toward the upper end thereof and being formed at said upper end with spaced flanges defining therewith a fulcrum jaw, said rear web and bottom wall being formed respectively with securing means for said bracket and for an associated cylinder, said rear web and saidbottom wall merging at an obtuse angle.
5. In a support bracket, front and rear Webs, and an integral bottom wall, said front web tapering toward the upper end thereof and being formed at said upper end with spaced flanges defining therewith a fulcrum jaw, said rear 'web and bottom wall being formed respectively with securing means for said bracket and for an associated cylinder, each of said webs and said bottom wall merging at an obtuse angle.
6. In a support bracket of the class described, front and rear webs and an integral wall extending therebetween, said front web tapering toward the extremity thereof remote from said Wall and being formed at said extremity with spaced flanges defining a fulcrum jaw, said rear web and said wall being formed respectively with securing means for said bracket and for an associated cylinder.
7. In a support bracket, front and rear webs, and an integral bottom wall, said front web tapering toward the upper end thereof and being formed at said upper end with spaced flanges defining therewith a fulcrum jaw, said rear web and bottom wall being formed respectively with securing means for said bracket and for an associated cylinder.
3. In a support bracket of the class described, front and rear webs and an integral wall extending therebetween, said front web tapering toward the extremity thereof remote from said wall and being formed at said extremity with spaced flanges defining a fulcrum jaw, means for securing said bracket to an associated support mem-' her, and means on said wall for securing an asso ciated cylinder to said bracket.
9. In a support bracket, spaced web and an integral wall extending therebet'ween, one of said webs tapering toward the extremity thereof remote from said wall and being formed at said extremity with fulcrum means for an associated brake lever, means on the other web for securing said bracket to an associated support member, and means on said wall for securing an associated cylinder device thereto.
