This invention relates to receivers .for cigar and cigaretteash and butts and like material,
' and more particularly to devices of this kind suitable for ash receivers for use in closed or open automobiles though it. is noted that in some of the claims the invention is not limited to use with vehicles.
Heretofore, considerable difliculty has been vice of this kind in which the ashes and the like may be deposited without being scattered by drafts.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for conveying the ashes to the exterior while moving onthe road without danger of fire.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which will hold burning cigarette butts and the like therein untilthey burn up or go out, thus to prevent danger of fire in garages.
Other objects of the invention are to improve generally the simplicityand efficiency of such devices and to provide a neat artistic device or apparatus of this kind which is safe, durable and reliable in operation, economical to manudetails of the invention are described in the specification and some of the claims, the invention is not limited to these, since many and various. changes may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as claimed in the broader claims. a
The inventive features for the accomplishment of these and other objects are shown herein in connection with an improved ash receiver which, briefly stated, includes a housing adapted to be mounted in the automobile and having a receiving front opening, and a bottom opening adapted together wherebythe drum segments may be lowered to open said receiving opening and form a depression for receiving the ashes, the drum segments then being raised toseparate and drop the ashes upon'a normally horizontal platform hinged in the chute. 3
A link connects said platform and outer drum, whereby when the drums are raised the platform is also raised to horizontal position to receive the ashes or unburned material, and when the drums are lowered the platform is lowered to drop the material into an upwardly open elongated passage chamber communicating with the lower end of the chute and provided with a dished floor to receive the material, and front and rear open ends, whereby when the vehicle moves a draftis created for sweeping out material that may be therein. a

We claim as our invention:
1. A receiver for ash and cigar and cigarette butts, said receiver comprising a housing in a closed automobile and having front and bottom openings and end walls; an upright chuteextending downwardly to the exterior of the automobile and communicating with said bottom opening; a normally yieldably raised segmental outer closure drum normally closing said front opening and to form housing end wallslperpendicular' to the plate; a connecting plate joining the rear and lower edges of theend walls and forming a housing rear wall, and a lower wall cut and bent down toform downwardly pointing lower rear and end lips; a laterally closed upright chute extending downwardly between the outer and inner walls provided with end walls pivotally coaxially mounted on the housing end walls; a normally raisedinner segmentaldrum coaxially received in the outer drum and pivoted coaxially on said end wall; a yieldably pressed control member operatively connected to said drums for yieldably raising the drums and constraining the drums to move together; a normally horizontal platform hinged in the chute; and a link connecting said platform and outer drum and so connected that when the drums are raised the platform is also raised to horizontal position, when thedrums are 2.
