What I claim and desire to secure byLetters Patent of the United States is:
1. Rotary printing press having a printing couple for printing a plurality of columns of Ytype matter, means for conveying ink to the columns of type on the type cylinder, gearing for driv-` ing said ink-conveying means, pump mechanism for supplying ink to said ink-conveying means, a casing accommodating the pump mechanism and serving as a reservoir for the ink,4 a rail on said casing and means associated with said rail by which the ink is distributed on said ink-con-` veying means, and a guard for said gearing forming a closure for the pump casing, said casing and the rail being movable as a unit in the press frame relatively to the guard to expose the pump mechanism.
2. In a rotary printing press having a printing couple including a Atype cylinder for carryingl a plurality of columns of type, means for conveying ink to each of said type columns, a plurality of pumps for supplying ink to said inkconveying means, each of said pumps comprising a plunger working within va bore in a, pump frame, a casing for accommodating said pumps, gearing for driving said ink-conveying means and for actuating said pump frame to impart suction 'and pressure strokes to said plungers, a guard for said gearing forming a closure for said pump casing, said casing being movable in the press frame to expose the pumps, a plurality'of rods extending.
, 3 within said guard and adjustably` engageable with the plungers to limit their stroke and thereby control the supply of ink from the pumps, said rods having manually operable portions project-f` ing from said guard, a xed abutment within said guard,` and projections on the pump frame engageable with said iixed abutment upon movement of the pump casing except when said pump `frame is positioned to clear the guard. I
3. In a rotary printing press having means for supplying and conveying ink to each of a plurality of type columns, including a plurality of pumps, each pump comprising a plunger workving within a bore in a pump frame, means-for driving said pumps, an ink reservoir in which said pumps are seated and having a support on which said pumps are bodily slidable from a working position to an inspection position and means for securing the pumps in working position.
4. In a rotary printing press having means for supplying and conveying ink to each of a plurality of type columns, including a plurality of pumps, each pump comprising a pump frame, a plurality of plungers each Working in a bore in the pump frame, adriven actuating frame for the plungers, an ink reservoir accommodating the pump frames in working and inspection posie tions and in which the pumps are seated and a support on which the pump frames are slidable bodily from one position to another.
5. In a rotary printing press having means `for supplying and conveying ink to each of a plurality of type columns, including a plurality of pumps, each pump comprising a pump frame, a plurality of plungers each Working ina bore in the pump frame, a driven actuating frame for the plungers, an ink reservoir accommodating the pump frames in working and inspection positions, in which the pumps are seated and a support on which the pump frames are slidable bodily yfrom WILLIAM ARNOLD WHITEHEAD.
