Prior to the slide beginning to move from left In the dI'aWingSi to right and from right to left, as well as in the Fi'gs. 1 to 7 serve for explaining the production course of each slide movement the front needle of narrowed plain Ware; row is accordingly ra'cked. The knittingfis then continued by means of the rear needles again and the narrowing repeatedin accordance with the pattern anew. This mode of working is continued until the article is given the required narrowed width.
The production of ribbed Ware narrowed on lboth sides is efi'ected as follows':
dle beds always takes place before the transfer lock pair reaches the next following ware edge while travelling in its direction of movement. In the course of the movement of the transfer lock pair from left to' right the loops on the front needles 28, 28, 30,32, 34 and 43, 4|, 39, 3`|, 35 are transferred to the rear needles 1, 9, |3,
| and 25,'23, 2|, |9, I'l respectively. If then the transfer lock pair tmoves from right to left the loops on the rear needles |9, 2|, 23 and I 3, 9, 1 are transferred to the front needles 36, 38, 40, 42 and 33, 3|, 29, 21 respectively (Fig.
,8). Similar Operations also take place, as indicated in Fig. 9, whereby in the course of the slide traverse from left to right the loops on the rear needles 8,/ |0, |2, |4 and 24, 22,v 20, |8 are transferred to the front needles V28, 30, 32, 34 and43, 4|, 39, 3'| respectively. AAs vthe slide traverses from right to left the loops onthe front needles 3'|, 39, 4|, 43 and 34, 32, 30, 28 are transferred to the rear needles |9, 2|, 23, 25 and |5, |3','|| and 9. After the completion of two slide traverses the edge loops of both needle rows have thus each been transferred in the direction towards the middle for one loop division. Each of the needles |5 and' 25 then holds three complete loops, as shown in Fig. 10, whereas the needles 1, 25, |1 and 35 are brought out of action. After the knitting' has been kept up again withV the needlesarranged as shownV in Fig. 10, the mode of procedure described above is repeated in accordance with the pattern; Fig. 11, which is selfexplanatory, shows schematically the rows of loops of the ribbed Ware narrowed on both edges.
