i l CHIMNEY-TOP PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,290, dated February 1, 1881.

To all Ywhom it may concern: 1 y Be it known that I, HENRY J. KAMPMAN, of Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvementin Chimney-Top Protectors 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a Io part of this specication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view of my device applied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are details. I5 This invention relates to chimney-caps.
The invention consists in a cap or protector constructed as hereinafter described.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the top of a chimney to which my prozo tector B is to be applied. C are the corners u having the angle a., top piece, b, and flanges b b. D are the side pieces. Where the edges of llanges b meet each other and where they meet edges d of side pieces, D, one of saidy meeting edges is preferably flanged to cover the other meeting edge, and both are provided with slotsd and pins e, so as to vary the size of the protector for different sizes of chimneys. These iianges E can be made integral with one section, or separate from both, and bolted thereto.
The corners C are to be placed upon the corners of the chimney, the side pieces in place, and the flanges E over the joints. The bolts are then tightened as the device is set.
This protector can be made of cast sheetiron, or any desired and suitable material. Being in sections, it is itted for chimneys of dit'- ferent sizes.
I am aware that chimney-caps havin g corner- 4o pieces and side pieces of metal adj ustably connected by bolts and nuts to it chimneys of varying sizes are notfbroadly new; and I desire herein to limit myself to the construction herein shown and described, and hereinafter claimed.
What I claim is- A chimney top protector composed of the angular corner-pieces, G, having the anges E, the anges E and opposite ends of said 5o corner-pieces being slotted at (Las shown, the angular side pieces,D,having anges Eat one end, and having slots dd, and the bolts and nuts e, combined and operating substantially as and for the purposes set forth. 5 5
