Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
THOMAS A. FRAKES, OF NEW HOLLAND, ILLINOIS.
BED-PLATE FOR WAGON-BODIES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,104, dated February 1, 1881.
Application filed December 23, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. FRAKES, of NewHolland, in the county of Logan and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Plates for Wagon-Bodies; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull7 clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a combined holdfast and bed-plate adapted to serve between wagon-bodies and the rear bolster and standards of a Wagon; and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and specically pointed out in the claim.
The object of the invention is to prevent the wear and tear of the horizontal bolster at the rea-r of the vehicle upon the body-bottom, and also the wear of the bolster-standards against the sides of the body, not only injuring the service of the body, but distiguring the neat appearance of the same.
The device consists in a horizontal plate, which is adapted to be secured to the bottom of the body and rest upon the bolster. To this horizontal plate is secured a vertical semicircular plate having an outer flange with an opening, through which operates the bolsterstandard. This plate operates between the sides of the body and the bolster-standards, and it is secured to the body-sides, and the complete device serves efficiently to hold the body in place with relation to the bolster.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of the device, showing the outside of the vertical plate; Fig'. 2, a perspective view, showing the opposite side and Fig. 3, a central transverse section through the lines .fr fr of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the horizontal plate, having holes a, through which pass bolts or rivets, b v which the plate is secured to the bottom of the wagon-box; and B, the vertical plate, having holes b, to receive securing bolts or rivets, by which they are secured to the sides of the box. This vertical plate is semicircular in form, and has a liange, O, near the edge upon the outside, which, being divided at its upper center, forms a three-sided socket, D, wh ich receives the bolster-standards.
The operation, uses, and advantages of the device, from the foregoing description, in connection with the drawings, is obvious.
The inventionis designed as an im provementl upon the patent granted to me and numbered 213,408, of 1879.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The holdfast described, consisting of the semicircular vertical plate B, the lian ge C, and the three-sided socket or recess D, constructed and arranged to serve, relatively to a bolsterstandard and a wagon-body, as specified, for the purposes set forth.
2. The vertical semicircular plate B b, having flan geO and recess D, and the bolster-plate A, having holes ai, constructed, combined, and adapted to serve with a bolster, bolster-standard, and a wagon-box, as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS A. FRAKES. Witnesses:
V. R. S'r. JOHN, E. C. BoREN.
