This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cutting machines especially adapted for cuttingmetal, the principal object being to provide a cutting machine which will eliminate long operations with the usual slow progressing hack saw, as well as a reaming out of deep rolled burrs, such as are left by roller type pipe cutters.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a portable cutting machine which can be readily moved about and which is powered for the purpose of eliminating the physical eflort necessary in making long cuts in hack saw use.

' Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 generally refers to a frame structure which consists of a pair of parallel bars 8, I (see Figure 3). which have extensions at their rear ends that curve upwardly and inwardly as at I, 1 and terminate in elevated portions that extend forwardly in close parallel relation asv at 8, 8 and which are bridged by a member 8 that serves as a handle whereby the machine can be easily carried about.

Suitable packing means I! is provided at theends of the shaft and a lubricant fitting I4 is provided at the intermediate portion of the barrel ii. The
shaft II has athreaded extension I! at one endover which the hub l8 of'a cutting wheel or disk H is disposed, this hub l8 having a nut l8. The threads of the extension I! and the hub nut II are opposite to that of the rotation of the shaft 99, to the end that the cutting wheel of its own motion cannot unscrew itself.
The other end of the shaft II is equipped with a pulley l8 over which a belt 28 is disposed, this belt 28 extending downwardly to a pulley 2| on the armature shaft 22 of an electric motor 23. The motor 23 has a base 24 which is bolted as at 25 to a platform 28 and this has depending lugs 21 which overlap lugs 28 rising from a cr s bar between the portions 6, 6 of the frame 5. Bolts 30 pivotally connect the lugs'21 to the lugs 28. On the cross bar 23 i a teat 3| over which the lowermost convolutions' of a compression 'spring 32 are disposed. 1 g second teat formed by the head of one of the olts 25 has the uppermost convolutions of the spring 32 disposed thereover. Thus it can be seen, that the spring 32 serves to swing the motor mounting rearwardly and serves as a tightener for the belt 20.
A cross bar 33 is provided at the forward ends of the portions 6, 6 of the frame 5 and on this bar is an elongated tube 84 from which rises a pair of arms 35, 3d and brace members 36 which are interconnected with one of the arms 35 as at 31. The arms 35, 85 support a trough-like table 88, while the brace members 36 support a shorter trough-like table section 39 which is closely spaced with respecttoone end of the, table 38 so that work can be carried against the cutting wheel".
The cutting wheel ri has a shield supported by l a bracket 40, this shield having ,a lower section 4| and an upper swingable section 42. The lower section has a discharge opening 48 for cuttings, while the forward portion of the upper section 42 is cut away as at- 44 the cutting wheel l1 While under some circumstances a high. speed circular hack saw maybe usedin place of the as cut of! wheel wheel 11,- a resinoid 'carborundumhas proven very satisfactory.
To limit outward movement of the work sup-- porting table, one or more chains 4! may be interposed between an arm or arms 38 and the cross bar 28.
-Whlle the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may beresorted to without departing. from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:' v 1 l. A small, readily portable cutting machine comprising a frame consisting of a pair of horizontal spaced side bars having extensions at their rear ends which curve upwardly and inwardly and terminate in elevated horizontal portions that extend forwardly in adjacentspaced relation, a handle member connecting said elevated portions, a transverse horizontal barrel connecting the forward ends of said elevated portions, a rotary shaft journaled in and extending through said barrel,
a cutting disc secured on one end of saidshaft,
a pulley secured on the other end of said shaft, a transverse member connecting said side bars, a motor mounted on said transverse member and having a pulley on the drive shaft thereof, and a drive belt passing around said pulleys, a cross bar connecting the forward ends of said side bars, a tube rotatably fitted on said cross bar, arms rigid with and rising from said tube, and a transverse work rest carried by the upper ends of said arms.
3. A small, readily portable cutting machine comprising a frame consisting of a pair of horizontal spaced side bars having extensions at their rear ends which curve upwardly and inwardly and terminate in elevated horizontal portions that extend forwardly in adjacent spaced relation, a handle member connecting said elevated portions, a transverse horizontal barrel connecting the forward ends of said elevated portions, a rotary shaft journaled in and extending through said barrel, a cutting disc secured on one end of said shaft, a pulley secured on the other end of said shaft, a transverse member connecting said side bars, a motor mounted on said transverse member and having a. pulley on the drive shaft thereof, and a drive belt passing around said pulleys, and a shield for said cutting' disc supported by one of said elevated extension portions, said shield being cut away at the front and having a rearwardiy directed cuttings discharge opening at the bottom thereof.
