This invention relates to a drummers stool, and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which besides providing a comfortable seat for a person while playing a bass drum and other accompanying musical instruments, also will provide a case in which the drum beating means, the cymbal actuating means along with other musical equipment may be placed to permit transportationV thereof from place to place conveniently and which will provide full protection thereto while not in use or when in storage, requiring only a limited space for its accommodation.' Y
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view, partly in section, illustrating a drummers stool constructed in accordance with my invention and showing a drum supported thereby and also the crash cymbals, usually played with the bass drum and accessories jVV which may be used in connection therewith.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view showing the mechanism for beating the drum and for the support thereof in operative or playing position and further showing how the device may be folded and arranged within the case of the stool, and taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 lis a vertical sectional view showing the crash cymbals, its support and operating means connected with the stool.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view showing the door of the case in an open position and further illustrating the operating means of the crash cymbals folded and arranged within the case.
Figure 6 is .a sectional view taken on the line E-S of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a detail sectional view taken on the line l-l of Figure 4.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary front elevation showing the interior of the door equipped for supporting playing equipment and toolsv which may be used in the adjustment of the musical instrument as well'as the equipment forming part of Y the present invention.
Figure 9 is a fragmentary vertical l sectiimai cymbals to permit such stand to be folded.
Figure 10 is a. fragmentary side elevation show-l ing a portion of the stand in a folded position.'
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a case, preferably of a size and shape that it can be conveniently carried fromV place to place and is provided withta handle t j to facilitate the carrying thereof. The front of ments which usually accompany the playing of Y theldrum.h The post 9 is internally threaded to receive the stem I0 so that the stem can-beremoved from the post and the vseat arranged Within holders l2 provided in the case when the seat is not in use. The holders I2 may be of any desired construction and preferably arranged so that the seat lcan be easily applied and removed when desired. The stem being threaded in the post will permit the seat to be raisd and lowered to suit the desires of the player.
The post has connected thereto a foldable `drum supporting means i3 and a cymbal actuating means I4 also of a foldable character. Said means i3 and il being foldable may be readily` arranged within the case or extended therefrom, as shown in Figure 1, so that the feet of the player sitting upon the seat can be placed upon treadles carried by said means for the actuation of the drum as well as the cymbals.
The drum supporting means i3 is pivotally mounted on a collar l5 fixed to the lower portion of the post so that said drum supporting means may be brought into the case and swung outwardly thereof when desired. In order that the drum supporting means can be accommodated in the case and only require `a comparatively small space therein it is composed of sections i6, il and i8 hingedly connected whereby the section i8 may be swung to engage with the section Il as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2,
within the case, as shown in Figure 2. A strap including a buckle is employed forl holdingthe drum supporting means folded within the case and is indicated by the character I8 being suitably secured to the post 3. The section I8 is composed of telescopic sections whereby said section IB may be adjusted as to length for varying the distance of the drum from the case when in playing position. A bolt and nut, indicated by the character 20, secures the telescopic sections against movement.
When the drum supporting means i3 is arranged outwardly of .the case in playing position, the sections i1 and I8 rest flatly on the floor and the section Il is equipped with a ilxed jaw 2| and also with a movable jaw 22. The movable jaw is suitably mounted for sliding movement on the section I8 and may be adjusted toward and from the xed jaw 2i through the operation of a feed 4stern 23 threaded to the movable jaw and journaled on the section I8. The jaws will permit different size drumsto be secured on the section I8 and easily detached therefrom.
A support 24 is secured on the section l1 ad- V jacent the section I8 for the pivotal support of a drum beating element or mallet 25. The support 2l may be folded down on the section I1 when it is desired to fold and arrange the drum supporting means within the case. l
One of" the foot treadles heretofore referred to and indicated by the character 26 is hinged on the section I1 and is connected to the beating element 25 by a link 21 so that the person occupying the stool seat may, through the use of one foot on the treadle 2-8, actuate or beat the drum. The link 21 is preferably detachably connected to the foot treadle 28 so that it may be disconnected therefrom when the drum supporting means is being arranged for folding.
By referring to Figure 1 it will be seen that the drum supporting means when in operative position extends outwardly of the case by way of the doorway extending at an angle to the post, while the cymbal operating means extends in diverging relation thereto from the post through the doorway. The collar 2B to which the cymbal supporting means Il is pivoted is journaled on the post which will permit said supporting means I4 after being folded to be swung on the post in the direction indicated by the arrows in Figure 1 to assume a compact position within the case. A strap 28 on the post is provided to secure the means I4 folded and within the case.
The cymbals are indicated by the character 30 being of a conventional construction and operated through the sliding movement of a rod 3|. Also the cymbals are removably mounted on a foldable stand 32 with the rod extending downwardly therethrough. The stand 32 includes a tubular member 33 for the accommodation of the rod 3l and `on which the` cymbals 30- are removably mounted, and the rod has a link 3l pivoted thereto and to the other treadle heretofore mentioned and indicated by the character 35. The stand 32 further includes foldable legs 38. The lower end of the tubular member 33 is hingedly connected, as at 31, to the supporting means I4 and on which the treadle 35 is pivotally mounted. The cymbals 30 may be removed from the stand 32 and mounted on a rack ,-38 provided therefor within the case.
The tubular member 33 of the stand includes sections held in operative position by a sleeve 33 having a sliding fit with one section and threaded onto the other section. By detaching thesleeve 39 from the last mentioned section, the tubular member of the stand may be folded. The operating rod 3| oi.' the cymbals located within the tubular member is provided with a hinged joint Il to permit folding thereof along with the folding of the sections of the stand. as shown in Figure 10.
The supporting means il includes hingedly connected sections Il and I2, the section 4| resting flatly upon the oor when the cymbals are in playing position. as shown in Figure 4, and is connected to the lower end of the tubular member of the stand 32. The treadle 35 is pivotally mounted on the section 4I. The section 42 is of telescopic construction so that it can be adjusted as to length and is pivotally connected to the collar 28. A fastener I3 is provided for securing the telescopic parts in adjusted position. Thus it will be seen that after the stand 32 has been folded it can, with the sections Il and l2, be arranged in the case and secured in the folded position by the strap 29.
The innei face of the door 1 is equipped with a plurality of racks in which various types of tools may be arranged as well as the drum sticks. The tools4 are utilized in the assembly and care of the device and for making repairs and adjustments to the musical instruments.
Thus it will be seen that after the drum has been removed from its support and both of the supporting means i3 and Il arranged in the case as well as the cymbals and seat, the drummer will only have the case to carry along with the drum when traveling from place to place. Further, it will be seen that the entire device can be conveniently arranged for supporting the drum and cymbals in playing position and that they will be conveniently located whereby the drummer sitting on the seat can easily actuate them through the operation of the foot treadles by his feet.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, a portable case, a post mounted in said case with one end exposed exteriorly thereof, a seat detachably connected to said end of the post, means in the case for the accommodation of the seat when removed from the post, and foldable means mounted on said post and extendable from said case for the support of musical instruments.
