Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
GEORGE T. CLARK, OF MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 236,305, dated January 4, 1881.
Application filed April 14, 1880,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE THOMAS CLARK, of the city of Muskegon, county of Muskegon, State of Michigan, have invented an Improved Combination Fence-Post, which consists of re-clay, iron, wood, cement, sand, and lead, as set forth in the following specification, and the drawings annexed hereto.
Figure l is an elevation and plan. a section and plan.
a is a cylindrical piece of earthen or cement pipe, which may be in one or more pieces, and which are commonly known as sewer77 or drain7 pipes. Y
bis a cylindrical piece of iron metal, (inform like a stove-pipe,) of sheet-iron or iron-Wire netting, of the lengt-l1 ofl the post intended to be made, which is inserted lengthwise i11- side of the pipe ai, first covering the inner Walls of the pipe a With a coating of cement, so that when the iron bis inserted inside of the said pipe a it will adhere close to the inne-r walls ot' the pipe a'.
cV is mortar made of cement and sand, which is placed inside of the iron b, filling upl the cavity therein remaining inside of the iron Fig. 2 is (No model.)
solidly with the same, thus making a solid post, as is shown in drawings.
For the purpose of fastening materials to the post, holes are made in the same, as shown in Fig. 1, into which melted lead is poured, which, when cooled, can be bored out and fitted for the screw-bolt intended for the fastening,
or by inserting in the post an iron female screw in'to which the screwbolt intended for the fastening ean be turned, or by inserting in the post wood or prepared clay into which iron nails can be driven, or by putting a bolt entirely through the post, so that boards can be fastened on each side of the post.
What I claim is- A fence-post consisting of the combination, with an outer earthenware or cement cylinder, a, of an inner sheet-iron or Wire-netting cylin\ der, b,`and a tillin g or core, 0, said post being 45 provided With suitable plugged and bored holes to sustain the rail-bolts, substantially as described.
