This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an advertising meat and the like display.
More specifically, the invention proposes a sanitary advertising meat display characterized by a sheet of paper imprinted with a choice of cuts of meat in a manner to be displayed within a window casing to inform passersby as to the types of meat available within the store.
Still further it is proposed to provide a plurality of price tags having different numerical values adapted to be attached to said sheet of paper to indicate the current price of the cut of meat displayed by the sheet of paper.
A further object of this invention is to provide the sheets of paper imprinted with representations of the cuts of meat in pad from, permitting the topmost sheet to be removed from said pad to have a price tag attached thereto.
A still further object of the invention proposes to imprint the sheets of paper with representations of fish, poultry or cuts of meat'such as porterhouse steaks, pork chops, top round steaks, sirloin steaks, short porterhouse steaks, lamb loin chops, etc.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a rigid frame arranged'to have an imprinted sheet of paper secured in position thereon permitting the sheet to be conveniently displayed.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a lamp lighted display case having an open front side across which a rigid plate supporting a display sheet is adapted to be mounted in a manner to be illuminated by the lights within the case.
For further comprehension of this invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 10 is a partial vertical sectional View taken substantially on the line |0-l0 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 11 is a front elevational view of a display case constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 12 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line l2-l2 of Fig. 11.
The advertising meat or the like display, according to this invention, comprises a sheet of paper 10 which is imprinted upon its front face with choice cuts of meat. In the first form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the sheet 10 is imprinted in color with a plurality of pork chops I I. These sheets are provided in a pad form, as illustrated'in Fig. 1, and the topmost sheet is adapted to be removed from the pad in a manner to have a price tag 12 attached thereto. This price tag 12 is imprinted with the name of the cut of meat and the current price value of the particular cut. This price tag I2 is adapted to be secured in position upon the face of the sheet III by any desired means.
The manner of using this form of the invention is as follows: The topmost sheet I0 is removed from the pad and a price tag imprinted with the current price of the out of meat displayed upon the sheet is selected and positioned at a desired area upon the face of the sheet ID. The price tag I 2 is then securely attached in position and the assembled sheet and price tag are displayed in a window Where it may be conveniently viewed by persons passing in front of the store.
In Fig. 5 a sheet I6 is illustrated which is imprinted with porterhouse steaks E l and which is provided with a price tag [2 giving the current price of this cut of meat. The price tag I2 in this form of the invention is attached to the sheet ID by means of staples 13. While the drawing has illustrated a sheet imprinted only with pork chops and porterhouse steaks, it is also proposed that additional sheets imprinted with representations of fish, poultry, or other cuts of meat such as top round steaks, short porterhouse steaks, lamb loin chops, etc. be provided.
In Figs. 3, 4 and 6-10 a rigid plate 26 is illustrated for supporting a display sheet In imprinted with cuts of meat I and provided with a price tag 12. This plate 20 is preferably constructed of wood and is provided with a central opening 2|.
Means is provided for releasably attaching one end of the display sheet l upon one end of the plate 20. This means comprises a bar 22 having one end hingedly supported at one side of the plate 26. The opposite end of the bar 22 is provided with an outwardly extended stud 23 which is adapted to be engaged by a pivotally mounted lever 24 for retaining the bar 22 in an operative position in which the end of the sheet I0 is clamped between the bar 22 and the adjacent face of the plate 26. The bar 22 is provided with a plurality of inwardly extended pins 25 which are adapted to engage through the end of the sheet and into complementary openings formed in the adjacent end of the plate 26 for preventing the sheet l6 from being pulled from between the adjacent faces of the bar 22 and the plate 26.
The opposite end of the sheet H] is adapted to be engaged between the adjacent fiat faces of a pair of semi-circular rods 26. One of the rods 26 is provided with a plurality of pins 2'! which are adapted to be engaged through the end of the sheet I0 and into complementary openings in the other of the rods 26 for locking the end of the sheet in position to prevent the same from being pulled from between the adjacent faces of the rods. The rods 26 are disposed within a cavity 28 formed in the plate 26 on the side remote to the side provided with the bar 22. One end of the rods 26 after having the end of the sheet l6 engaged therebetween is adapted to be projected into an opening 29 formed in a bracket 33 mounted. upon one side of the plate 20.
A rigid strip 3| is pivotally supported upon the opposite side of the plate 26 and is provided with a semi-circular opening 32 which is adapted to engage about one side of the semi-circular rods 26. The strip 3| is pivotally supported in a slot formed in the right side of the plate 26 and has its free end extended to the underside of the plate. A means is provided for retaining the rigid strip 3| in an operative position and comprises a pivotally mounted lever 33 on the underside of the plate 20 which is provided with a cutout which is adapted to engage a stud 34 mounted upon the free end of the rigid strip 3|.
The ends of the semi-circular rods 26 on the end engaged by the rigid strip 3| are provided with a plurality of longitudinally extended serrations 35. A gripping jaw 36 is provided and has serrations 3? which are adapted to engage the serrations 35 and hold the rods 26 in various rotative positions. This gripping jaw 36 has its free end slidably supported in a frame 38 and a spring 36 urges the gripping jaw 36 into a position in which the serrations 31 will engage the serrations 35 and urge the rods 26 into an engaged position with the semi-circular opening 32 formed in the rigid strip 3|. The spring 33 operates between a lug 40 projecting from the frame 38 and a lug 4| projecting from the free end of the gripping jaw 36.
The free ends of the rods 26 adjacent the gripping jaw 36 are provided with outwardly extended handle portions 42 which are adapted to be used for rotating the rods to wind the sheet l0 upon the rods and cause the sheet to be tautly projected across the front face of the plate 20. The serrations and 31 are arranged in a manner to slip over one another when the rods are turned to wind the sheet |U thereon and to limit rotation in the other direction. To free the rods 26 to permit the sheet ID to be removed from the plate 20 it is merely necessary to pivot the lever 33 freeing the rigid strip 3| to be moved to an inoperative position permitting the rods 26 to be disengaged from the gripping jaw 36.
This means for holding the sheet Ill tends to hold the sheet more tautly than previously known methods of holding similar sheets and is more susceptible to quick changes enabling different sheets to be easily and quickly engaged upon the plate 26 without the necessity of using any hand tools.
In the modification of the invention shown in Figs. 11 and 12 a display case 50 having an open side, is illustrated, and which is provided with a means for retaining the plate 20 shown in the previous form of the invention, in position across the open side thereof. A plurality of light bulbs 5| are mounted within the casing 56 and are connected with a source of current not illustrated on the drawing, for illuminating the interior of the casing to permit light rays therefrom to pass through the central opening 2| in the plate 26 and illuminate the sheet H) which is formed of translucent material and is mounted in position across the plate.
In other respects this form of the invention is identical to the previous forms and like parts are indicated by similar reference numerals.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the.
precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
