The bearing plates i6 [6 are also adapted to be engaged by grip blocks 23', 25 mounted in carrier members 24, 2! of a friction grip feeding device 25. Said feeding device may be of any well known form but is herein shown as being or a type somewhat similar to" that shown and describedin my prior Patent No. 2,318,803 dated May 11, 1943, an includes generally the two carrier members 24,14, eaeh'crwmch hasa-pair" of the friction grips-locks 23,23'pivota1-1 motnt: ed. thereon and adapted to have gripping en gagement with the upper and lower sides of the bearing plates I6, l6, during certain strokes of the conveyer.
The upper end of each carrier member is connected with the support frame 2| by means of a link 26, having connection with a frame 21 transversely pivoted to and extending forwardly from the support frame 2|. A yieldable link 28 connects the lower end of each of said carrier members with said transversely pivoted frame. When said upper links 26, 26 are locked to reciprocably move with the frame 2! and the reciprocating trough l5, and the yieldable links 28, 28 are free to move with respect to said frame and trough, said link 26, 26 will exert a pulling force on the upper ends of said carrier members during the return strokes of the conveyer, to cause said friction grip blocks to grip said bearing plates during the return strokes of the conv.eyer, and will exert a force on said car-- free to move with respect to said frame and r trough, a forward thrusting action will be exerted on the lower ends of said carrier members during the forward strokes of the conveyer, to engage the friction gripblocks 23, 23 with the bearing plates l6, l6, during the forward strokes of the conveyer, and an opposite force will be exerted on said carrier members during the return strokes of the conveyer, to release said grip blocks fromsaid bearing plates, to extend said extensible trough with respect to said recipmc t trough V The reciprocatingtrough I is mounted at its rear end on a base 29 of a swivel 30 in a manner which will hereinafter more clearly appear as thisspecification proceeds. Said swivel, as herein shown, includes a relatively short intermediate trough 3| having outwardly flared curved forward and rearends 32 and 33, respectively. Said forward curved end has a flared curved rear end ofia connecting trough nested therein, which is connected to the rear end of the reciprocating trough l5. Saidcurvedrear end of said intermediate trough is nested within a correspondingly. curved flared receiving end of a connecting trough 3'4. Said connecting trough is secured to the forward end of a trough 35, which is secured to and forms a part of the inby end of the shaker conveyer trough line. Said swiveled intermediate trough is pivotally connected to said troughs H and 34 by means of pivotal bearing members 36 and 31, and forms a continuous trough from the reciprocating trough I5 to the trough 35, when the extensible and reciprocating troughs are displaced laterally at various angular positions with respect to' the conveyer trough line about the vertical axes of the bearing members 36 and 31.
The bearing member 36 is pivotally mounted on a transverse frame 39 which in turn is recip- |cobaly mounted at its opposite sides on a frame 46 on a plurality of longitudinally spaced antifriction-rolle'rs 4 4 Said rollers have V-shaped engaging faces and are mounted on opposite sides of said frame 40, adjacent the forward and rear ends thereof, for rotation about yer- V tical axes. V- shaped guide tracks 43, 43 are se-' cured to opposite sides of said transverse support and are engaged with the V-shaped faces of the rollers 4|, 4|, to provide a reciprocating support for the rear end of the reciprocating trough I5 on the support frame 40.
The bearing member 31 is journaled on a transverse support frame :44. Said support frame has outwardly opening V- shaped guides 45, 45 at opposite sides thereof, adapted to be engaged with V-shaped engaging faces of support rollers 46, 46, mounted on the stationary base 29, for rotation about vertical axes.
The connection from the support frame 40 to the stationary base 29 includes a guide frame 49 secured to the top of said base and projecting forwardly therefrom in horizontal planes spaced above said base. Said guide frame is provided with a transversely extending slot 50 adjacent its forward end, and with a longitudinally extending slot 5| spaced rearwardly from said transverse slot. Said slots 50 and 5| are adapted to be engaged by guide members 52 and 53, respectively, pivotally connected between a pair of spaced plates 54, 54 extending along the top and bottom sides of said guide frame. The ends of said plates in advance of said guide frame are herein shown as being secured to opposite sides of a hinged member 55, which is pivotally connected to said support frame by means of atransverse pivotal pin 56 mounted in an ear 5'! depending from said support frame and interleaved by ears 48, 48 projecting forwardly from said hinged member. The arrangement of the slots 50 and 5| and the guide members 52 and 53 is such that said support frame will be supportingly engage their respective guide tracks during the entire stroke of the conveyer in all positions Of the reciprocating trough with respect to the base 29. Said centering means is herein shown as being of a form which forms the subject matter of a companion application Serial No. 487,684, filed May 20, 1943, by Ernst R.
Bergmann, now Patent No. 2,347,074, and includes a member 58 secured to and depending from the connecting trough 34 and having a pair of spaced apart inwardly extending stops 59, 59. Said stops are adapted to engage opposite faces of a stop 60, slidably mounted on the base 29 in a guide 6| extending transversely of said base and opening towards the inside thereof.
The distance between the stops 59, 59 is equal to the length of stroke of the conveyor plus the distance between opposite engaging faces of the stop 66, and in initially setting up the swivel, the shaker conveyor trough line is reciprocably driven for a few forward and return strokes. This will cause the stops 59, 59, engaging the stop 65, to move the base 29 along the ground until a point is reached where opposite engaging faces of said stop 60 are midway between the stops ,59, 59, at the central portion of the stroke of the conveyor. At this point said base is secured in a stationary position on the ground by'means of jacks 62, 62, adapted to be interposed between base '29 for movement about an axis extending longitudinally of said base. The opposite end of said hinged member is pivotally connected to a pairof parallel spaced links '64, 64, which are pivotally connected to a link 65, extending along the upper surfaceo'f the base 29 and herein shown as having the stop 630 formed integral therewith. A spring .66 :is interposed between the inner side of said stop and an .end wall 68 of the guide N, to urge said stop in a direction to be engaged with the spaced stops 59, .59. Thus when"said .base :has been properly centered with respect to the stroke of the conveyor and the jack 62 is set on the hinged member '63, said hinged member will be pivoted downwardly into engagement with said base, to hold said stop out of registry with the stops59, 59..
, Referring now to the mechanism for swinging the shovel H laterally along the ground, two winding drums -61, =6?! .are mounted on a base 69, which may be detachably secured to the base 29. Flexible feeding or draft devices such as cables 1:0, .19 are adapted to be wound on or payed! off of said winding drums. Said winding drums are separately driven from a motor I i in such a manner that one winding drum will Wind in one draft device while the otherwinding drum pays out its draft device. The drive from said motor to said winding drums may be of a'type somewhat similar to that shown :and described in Patent No. 2,272,049., which issued to Loy D. Hagenbook on February 3, 1942, and is no part .of my present invention, so will not herein be shown Or described in detail. The base. 59 .is adapted to rest on the ground on its own bottom and is detachably connected at its rear end to the stationary :base 29, by means of a connecting member 12. Said connecting memher is secured to and extends rearwardly from the left-hand rear corner of said stationary base 29 between the top of said base 69 and the underside .of a .connec-tingmember 13, which is secured to and extends parallel to the top surface of said base. A pivotal pin 14, adapted to extend through said connecting members and the base 69, is provided to detac'hably connect said bases together. A tie rod 15 extends diagonally from the right-hand rear corner of said base 29 to the right-hand rear portion of the base 69, and is detachably connected to said bases by means of pivotal pins 16 and TI extending through the bifurcated endsof said tie rod and through brackets l8 and T9, secured to and projecting from said bases 2'9 and 69, respectively.
The reaction and guide means for the flexible draft devices 1'9, '10, for causing said draft devices to laterally move the troughs i9 and I5 about the swivel 30, include a tubular arm 80 secured to each side of the support frame 49 and extending forwardly therefrom along said troughs l5 and it], beyond the forward end of said trough I I]. Said arms are each connected to one side of said support frame by means of clamping members 8|, 8| extending around a sleeve Bla mounted at the rear end of said tubular arm. Said clamping members extend inwardly .from said arm and are secured to the undersurface of the support frame 6'9 by means of nuts and'bolts indicated by reference characters'32, '82. A sheave bracket 83 is pivotally mounted at the rear end of each of said tubular arms and forms a mounting for a sheave 84,
mounted thereon for rotation about a vertical axis. "Each of said sheave brackets is mounted on the end of a 'tubul'armember 83a'whi'ch is mounted Within said arm for pivotal movement with respect thereto about the axisof said arm. A stop 832; projects rearwardly from the sleeve 8| :1 and is adapted to fit within a slotted portion 830 of said sheave bracket, to limit pivotal movement thereof. The center of the groove of said sheave is aligned with the longitudinal center of said tubular arm, so that a flexible cable passing therearound may be trained through the center of the said tubular arm.
The forward ends of each of said tubular arms are supported between a pair of vertical rollers 85, having convex engaging surfaces adapted to engage opposite sides of one of said arms.
Said rollers are mounted between a forked support bracket 88, on vertical pivotal pins 8'], 81.
Said support bracket is herein shown as being secured to and projecting outwardly from a shaft 83, mounted in a fordwardly projecting support portion 89 of the pivoted frame 21, and secured thereto by means of a nut 90 threaded on said shaft and abutting an inner side of said forwardly projecting support portion of said pivoted frame. The forward end of each arm is thus supported above the ground-on the pivoted frame 27 of the feeding mechanism, which in turn is supported on its forward end by the extensible trough I9 in advance of the reciprocating trough i5, and which reciprocably moves with respect to said arm during reciprocation of the conveyer.
A sheave bracket BI is mounted on the forward end of each arm 80 and has a sheave 92 mounted thereon. The groove of said sheave extends in a generally horizontal direction and is in alignment with the center of said tubular arm, to permit a flexible cable trained through said arm to be trained around said sheave and laterally from said arm. Said sheave bracket is mounted on the end of a sleeve 9m, which is pivotally mounted in the forward end of the arm 69 for movement about the axis of said arm, to permit said sheave to follow an uneven mine bottom. A stop 9 lb projects forwardly from said arm and is adapted to extend within a slot 910 formed in said sheave bracket, to limit pivotal movement of said sheave and'bracket.
The flexible cable 10 connected with the righthand winding drum 61 extends rearwardly from said winding drum around a guide sheave 93, mounted adjacent the rear end of the base 69 in a sheave bracket 94. From said sheave said cable extends inwardly around a sheave 95 mounted in a sheave bracket 96 projecting inwardly from the base 6'9, beneath the trough 35. From thence said cable extends forwardly in an angular direction towards the right-hand side of the loading device and is guided in a sheave 9:! mounted on the base 29. Said cable extends from said sheave around a sheave 99 mounted on a bracket I00, projecting laterally from the guide frame 49, to and around the sheave 84 at the'rear end of the right-hand tubular arm 89. From thence said cable is trained through said arm to and around the sheave 92 at the forward end of said support arm. Said cable is then trained laterally for connection to a fixed abutment remote from the shovel H, such as a mine jackinterposed between the mine floor and roof, for swinging said extensible trough to the right upon the winding in of said cable by its associated winding drum 67.
The cable 10 on the other winding drum '61 extends rearwardlytherefromaround a sheave till mounted in a sheave bracket I92, and inwardly from said sheave to and around a sheave I03, mounted in the bracket 96. From thence said cable extendsforwardly to and around a sheave I84 mounted in a bracket I05, projecting laterally from the guide frame 49. From said last named sheave said cable'extends around the sheave 84, at the rear end of the arm 88, through the center of said arm, to and around the sheave 92 at the forward end of said arm, and laterally therefrom to the left, for connection to a fixed abutment such as a mine jack interposed between the mine roof and floor, for feeding said extensible trough to the left upon the applica tion of power to wind in said flexible cable.
