This invention relates to containers and has more special reference to a container adapted to advertise and display the objects stored therein.

While several embodiments of this invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it is to be understood that such embodiments merely serve as an illustration of the underlying principles of the invention so that it may be readily comprehended by those skilled in the art, and is not intended as limiting the invention to the specific details disclosed therein.

' Continuing now by way of a more detailed description the blank shown in Fig. 1 has a central panel A which forms the front or display surface of the container with vertically disposed parallel score or fold lines B and C. The side panels E and F are adapted to be folded around the score lines B and C and to overlap at the back of the carton so that they may be secured togetherand retained in place. The blank shown in Fig. 1 may be a lined chip or similar board. By folding the side panels along the score lines B and C the lined surface of the side panels E and F forms the rear face of the container with the rough or unlined board almost wholly concealed. The side panel E comprises a vertically disposed intermediate 0r spacing strip G having laterally projecting strips or fiaps'H and J adapted when foldedaround the score or fold lines H and J to form a storage receptacle as will be more fully described hereinafter. The flap H has an auxiliary portion K separated from the strip J by the -cut L and from the intermediate panel G bythe connecting cut M, the auxiliary portion K being adapted to be creased or folded inwardly at right angles along the horizontal score line K to form a horizontal platform and upwardly around the score line N to form an upstanding flap for'supporting and stiffening the member H when folded to the back of the main panel A. This flap may be secured in any convenient manner as for instance by gluing. By folding the laterally projecting flap H' in the manner indicated and around the vertical score line H and by folding the member J around the fold line J and by folding the intermediate panel G around the vertical score line B, these elements take the position shown in Fig. 2. The side panel F has an auxiliary vertical score line U parallel to the score line C to form a part which is relatively movable by the cuts P, R and S, the cuts R and S permitting the relatively foldable easel parts T and T to be folded around the score lines U and U to form the rearwardly extending vertical spacing panel V having a width corresponding substantially to the width of the opposed intermediate spacing panel G to permit the easel part T to be secured to the free ends of membersH and J and to form an enclosed storage space as will be readily understood. The easel part or fin T is folded around vertical score line W to extend at right angles to the end part T so as to permit the latch X separated from the easel parts T and T by a cut Y to be folded around the fold line X so that its latching notch Y engages the out line Y and holds the easel or keeper part T substantially at right angles to the easel part T. The cut lines P, R and S also permit the cover members Z to be folded around the horizontal score lines Z to form a cover for the objects carried between the walls J, G and V. The objects rest on the transverse portion of panel K, as is shown more especially in Fig. 4.
It will be noted that when the side panel F is folded around the score line C a'considerable portlon of the panel F not utilized for the formation of the object holding pockets or its appurtenances or the means for supporting the panel in upright position, contacts with the panel A, and may be secured thereto in any convenient manner, for instance, in the region of The portion of the side panel F which is secured to the front panel A reinforces the panel and permits the use of lighter and cheaper board.
In manufacturing the container the blank is printed, cut and scored as shown in Fig. 1. The side panel E is then folded along score line H to take a position flat against the back of panel A. The side panel F then is folded along score line C and also laid flat against the back of panel A and on top of side panel E. The section F is then secured to the back of panel A and the portion of panel T which overlaps parts H and J is secured thereto by any-convenient means, such as gluing or stapling, as shown in Fig. 6.
When it is desired to insert merchandise into the storage space panels G and V are raised by bending the board on score lines 3, H and U, U'. Flap K is then bent to form the bottom of the storage space. Section Z is then bent on score lines Z to form the space. The objects may now be inserted.
In shipping the receptacle the device isenclosed in a box against which the lower edge of the dependent flap Z abuts prior to the assembly of the supporting means comprising the latch and keeper so as to hold the objects securely in place during transportation of the containers. In order to provide the footing for the container to hold it in upright display position the only further operation required is to fold the member T to a projecting position with respect to main panel A with the latching member x swung to a position where it holds the member T' in position.
It is claimed:
1. A container formed from a lined board having one side rough and comprising fold lines dividing the container into a central panel and side panels, the side panels being adapted to be folded so that their rough sides face the rough'side of the central panel and expose the lined side to view, one of the side panels including relatively movable parts to form an easel and a portion of the side panel separated therefrom to form a cover.
2. A container formed from a lined board having one side rough and comprising fold lines dividing the container into a central panel and side panels, the side panels being adapted to be folded so that their rough sides face the rough side of the central panel and expose the'lined side to view, one of the side panels including relatively movable parts to form an easel, theside panel being secured to a portion of the opposite side panel to form a pocket for storing the merchandise and a cover adapted to overlie the end of the pocket and formed from the flrst named side panel to retain the merchandise in the pockets.
3. A container formed from a lined board hav-' ing one side rough and comprising fold lines dividing the container into a central panel and side panels, the side panels being adapted to be folded-so that their rough sides face the, rough side of the central panel and expose the lined side to view, the side panels including overlapping portions secured to each other and spaced from the main panel to form a pocket for receiving the merchandise.
4. A container formed from a lined board having one side rough and comprising fold lines dividing the container into a central panel and side panels, the side panels being adapted to be folded so that their rough sides face the rough side of the central panel view, the side panels including overlapping portions secured to each other and spaced from the main panel to form a pocket for receiving the top closure for the storage I into a central panel and side panels, a portion and expose the lined side to of one of the side panels adapted to be secured to the front panel to reinforce it and a portion of the unsecured side panel being adapted to take a position spaced from the main panel and adapted to be secured to a portion of the opposite side panel spaced from the main panel to form a pocket to receive the merchandise.

8. One piece container comprising front, back and spacing panels foldably joined, said back panel being formed by lapping extensions from opposite spacing panels folded toward one another and secured together, said front, back and spacing panels forming a tubular receptacle of parallelogram cross-section whereby it may be folded flat, said back panel having an intermediate portion free from said back panel at its top and sides, foldable inwardly from the plane of said back panel at its base along a transverse line of fold to form a platform within said receptacle, and transversely foldable upwardly at its free end to form a flange adapted to supportingly engage said front panel, the outer of said lapping extensions being provided with an easel flap folded outwardly therefrom and with a latching tongue folded outwardly therefrom on a line at an angle to said easel flap for holding the latter extended.
9. One piece display container comprising front and side panels, one side panel being folded into surface contact with the front panel at least in the region adjacent the line of fold, and secured thereto, said side panels including parallel spacing panels folded out from said side panels, and a back panel formed by lapping extensions from opposite spacing panels, folded toward one another and secured together, said front, back and spacing panels forminga tubular receptacle of parallelogram cross-section whereit may be folded flat, said back panel having an intermediate portion free from said back panel at its top and sides, foldable inwardly from the plane of said back panel at its base along a transverse line of fold to form a platform within said receptacle, and transversely foldable upwardly at its free end to Q form a flange adapted to supportingly engage said regions not involved in said pocket in congruent front panel.
10. One piece display container comprising a front panel having a back folded spacing panel at one side, the latter having an extension of less height and width than said front panel, folded inwardly from the lower part of said spacing panel, a side panel at the other side of said front panel folded back upon said front panel in surface engagement therewith adjacent the fold and above said extension, and secured to said front panel, a spacing panel back-folded from said side panel, an extension folded inwardly from said last named spacing panel lapping the first named extension and secured thereto forming therewith a back panel, said back and spacing panels defining with said front panel a tubular receptacle of parallelogram cross-section whereby it may be folded fiat, the intermediate portion of said back panel being free from the adjacent portions of said back panel at its top and sides and being foldable inwardly from the plane of said back panel to form a platform within said receptacle, and transversely foldable upwardly at its free end to form a flange adapted to supportingly engage said front panel.
11. One piece display container as claimed in claim 10, said side panel above said receptacle having a back folded cover panel for said receptacie with downwardly folded retaining flange at its free end.
12. One piece display container as claimed ,in- I claim 10, the outer of said lapping extensions being formed with an easel flap folded outwardly therefrom and with a latching tongue folded out wardly therefrom at an angle to said easel flap, engaging the latter for holding it extended.
13. Container formed from a sheet blank having one side smooth, the other side rough, said container comprising adjacent panels demarked by a line of fold, having their top outline contours symmetrical with respect to said line of fold and having means forming a pocket in the folded container confined to an area distant from said line of fold and below said top contour, said panels being folded above said line of told with those engagement, with the smooth face of said blank exposed on both sides.

A receptacle comprising a center panel, a side panel folded about a lateral edge of the center panel, a portion of said side panel being secured against the back of the center panel, said receptacle including spacing panels folded back respectively from the side panel and center panel and a back panel formed by lapping extensions from opposite spacing panels folded toward one another and secured together forming a tubular pocket of parallelogram cross-section whereby it may be folded flat.
15. A display receptacle comprising a center panel having a back-folded spacing panel at one side, the latter having an extension of less height and width than said center panel, folded inward- 1y from the said spacing panel, a side panel at the other side of said center panel folded back upon said center panel in surface engagement there with adjacent the fold and above said extension and secured to said center panel, a spacing panel back-foided'from said side panel, an extension folded inwardly fromsaid' last named spacing panel lapping the first named extension and secured thereto forming therewith a back panel, said back and spacing panels defining with said center panel a tubular pocket of parallelogram cross-section whereby it may be folded flat.
16.- A receptacle comprising a center panel, a side panel folded around a lateral edge of the center panel, a portion of said side panel being secured against the rear of the center panel, said receptacle including spacing panels folded back respectively from the side panel and center panel, and a back panel formed by lapping extensions from oppositespacing panels folded toward one another and secured together forming a tubular pocket of parallelogram cross-section whereby it may be folded flat, said rearwardly secured panel having a back-folded cover panel above said pocket. 7
