' 1 claim. (c1. 72485) This invention aims to provide a novel reinforced pole, useful for the Stringing ofA telephone wires, telegraph Wires and the like. The invention aims, further, to provide novel means for assembling a cross arm with the pole.
It is Within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of What is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 shows in elevation, Va pole constructed in accordance With the invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig, 1;
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-'3 of Fig. 2.
The numeral I marks a pole, including a standard 2, preferably made of concrete, or other plastic material. The standard 2 is shown as of rectangular cross section but it may be of any desired cross section. A metal reinforcement, preferably an H-beam, is mounted in the standard 2 and is arranged symmetrically With respect to the longitudinal axis of the standard. The H-beam extends the full length of the standard 2,
The H-beam comprises a body 3 and flanges 4 and 5, a netting reinforcement 6 being disposed in the standard 2, about the H-beam.
The numeral 'I designates a, trough-shaped, metal seat, mounted in the standard 2, transversely of the H-beam. The seat 'I has oppositelyextended Wings 8 disposed flush with the outer surface of the standard 2, the seat being Welded to the liange 5 of the H-beam, as shown at 9 in Fig. 2.
Metal tubes Ill are located on opposite sides of the body 3 of the H-beam. The tubes pass through the flange 4 and abut against the ange 5. The outer ends of the tubes I are flush with the outer surface of the standard 2.
Securing elements pass through the tubes I0,
removably, and through the flange 5 of the H- beam. The securing elements may be bolts I I, including heads I2, nuts I4 being threaded on the bolts, the bolts carrying Washers I5, if desired. Since the tubes I0 are flush at one end with the outer surface of the standard 2, the tubes receive the thrust of the bolt heads I2, the thrust being carried into the flange 5 of the H-beam, since the tubes abut against that flange. The cncrete standard 2 will not receive Ythe strain, when the nuts I4 are tightened.
During storage or shipment, a Wooden ller I6, of the same length as the seat 1, is mounted in the seat, and is held in place by the bolts II and the nuts I4. The filler block I6 closes the seat l, and the bolts I I are prevented from shucking endwise. At the place of use, the filler block I6 is removed, and a cross arm I'I is substituted for it, the cross arm carrying any desired wireretaining means I8.
It will be understood that the seat 'I and the cross arm I1 may be duplicated to any desired extent and may be located as preferred. Y y
The invention provides a substantial and effective means for holding the cross arm I'I in place. The post I may be equipped with any of the usual accessories, such as steps I9.
What is claimed is: -L
A pole including a standard, a longitudinal reinforcing beam in the standard and comprising first and second oppositely disposed, lateral anges, and a body connecting the flanges, a transverse, trough-shaped cross arm seat mounted in the standard and opening through one side surface of the standard, the seatl abutting against the first flange, means for securing the seat to the rst flange, a tube abutting at one end against the rst flange and extended thence through a portion of the standard and through the second flange, the opposite end. of the tube being disposed substantially flush with the adjacent side surface of the standard, and a securing element removably mounted in the tube and extended Within the seat, the securing element comprising a part abutting against said opposite end of the tube.
