This invention relates to winding apparatus for textiles and the like, and relates more particularly to means for winding or batching fabrics onto a take-up roll or shell,
In prior Patent No. 2,307,880, there is described an apparatus for winding fabrics on to a take-up roll or shell in which there is provided-a guide-roll adapted to move in an eccentric path. This eccentric movement of the guide roll causes the fabric passing over the surface therefor to slide from one end of the guide-roll or shell with the selvedges of the fabric out of register or in staggered relation. Accordingly, the piling up of theselvedges is overcome, resulting in the avoidance of turned and stretched selvedges aswell as excessively creased fabrics.
It is an object of this invention to provide improved means for causing one end. of a fabric uide roll to move in an oscillatory path.
Other objects of this invention, together with certain details of construction and combinations of parts, will appear from the following detailed description and drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an eccentrically movable guide roll constructed in accordance with this invention, showing the mounting of the guide roll and the means for causing one end of the same to move in an oscillatory path, and
Figure 2 is a diagrammatic side view showing the path of the moving fabric, the rolls over which the fabricpasses, and the roll upon which it is wound or batched.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout both views of the drawing.
In a fabric windin device wherein a guide roll constructed in accordance with this invention and having one end thereof adapted to be oscillated, is employed, the fabric 3 which is to be wound is passed, in the direction indicated by the arrows, over roller 4 which is provided with means, generally indicated by reference numeral 5, for causing one end of the same to move in an oscillatory path, in contact with idler guide rolls 6 and I, over positively-driven guide roll 8, and is then taken up on a positively-driven roll or shell' 8 mounted on shaft il, thus forming a roll of fabric i2. The guide rolls 6, I and I are mounted on shafts l2, l4, and I5, respectively.
Referring more particularly to guide roll 4 and the means 5 for causing one end of the guide roll to move in an oscillatory path, the ends of guide roll 4 are provided with caps 6 of metal or other away or reduced in diameter in order that the cap surfaces may be flush with the surface of the roll 4. Extending through cap it are stub shafts I1 and H, the latter of which is journaled in a self-aligning bearing i8 which is mounted on a bracket IQ for attachment to the framework of a winding machine.
Stub shaft H on the free end of roll 4 is journaled in a yoke 2| and carries for rotation there with aworm 22. The worm meshes with and is adapted to rotate a gear 23 fixed on a shaft 24 journaled in middle portion of yoke 2|. To the ends of shaft 24 are fixed discs 25. To the surface of each of discs 25, adjacent the periphery thereof, is pivotally attached-a. link 25, the other end of each link being pivotally mounted on a bracket 21 which is adapted to be rigidly attached to the framework of the machine.
The operation of this device is as follows:
When the fabric to be wound, or to be treated and wound, on the take-up roll 9 is passed over the surface of roller 4, the roller 4 is caused to rotate. This rotation of the roller causes the worm 22 to turn thereby rotating gear 23. Gear 23 in turn rotates shaft 24 and thereby discs 25. The rotation of discs 25 efiected by the rotation of the shaft causes the discs to rotate about their pivotal points on links 26. This rotary movement of the discs relative to links 26 causes the yoke 2| to reciprocate thereby effecting an oscillation of the free end of roll 4 of guide roll 4, This movement of the roll, as stated above, causes the fabric passing over the same to move from end to end thereof, and on take-up roll or shell 8 the selvedges of the fabric assume a staggered efiect.
It is to be understood that the foregoingdetailed description and drawing are given merely by way of illustration and that many variations may be made therein without departing from the spirit of our invention.
Having described this invention, what is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device for winding fabrics, the combination with means for positively feeding fabric to a take-up roll, of a guide roll adapted to be rotated by the moving fabric, and means actuated by the rotation of said guide roll for causing one end of said guide roll to move in an oscillatory path.
2. In a device for winding fabrics, the semi. nation with means for positively feeding fabric to a take-up roll, of a guide roll adapted to be rotated by the moving fabric, said guide roll being relatively, fixed at one end and vertically suitable material, said guide roll ends being cut movable at the other end thereof, and, means actuated by the rotation of said guide roll for causing one end of said guide roll to move in an oscillatory path 3. In a device for winding fabrics, the combination with means for positively feeding fabric to a take-up roll, of a guide roll adapted to be rotated by the moving fabric, a shaft at each end of said guide roll, and means operatively connected to one of said shafts and actuated by the rotation of said shaft for causing said shaft to move in an oscillatory path.
4. In a device for winding fabrics, the combination with means for positively feeding fab ric to a take-up roll, of a guide roll adapted to berotated by the moving fabric, a shaft at each end of said guide roll, one of said shafts being journaled in a relatively fixed position and the other shaft being vertically movable, and means on said movable shaft actuated by the rotation of said movable shaft for causing said movable shaft to move in an oscillatory path.
5. In a device for winding fabrics, the combination with means for positively feeding fabric to a take-up roll, of a guide roll adapted to be rotated by the moving fabric, a shaft at each end of said guide roll, one of said shafts being journaled in a relatively fixed position and the other shaft being vertically movable, a worm fixed to and rotatable with said 'movable shaft, a gearcooperating with said worm, and means operatively connected to said gear for causing said movable shaft to move in an oscillatory path upon rotation of the guide roll by said moving fabric.-

7. In adevice for'winding fabrics, the combination with means for positively feeding fabric to a take-up roll, of a guide roll adapted to berotated by the moving fabric, a shaft at each end of said guide roll, one of said shafts being iournaled in a relatively fixed position and the other shaft being vertically movable, a worm fixed to and rotatable with said movable shaft, a gear cooperating with said worm, a shaft carried by said gear, discs fixed to said shaft, links attached to said discs and adapted to cause said discs to rotate eccentrically upon rotation of said guide roll by the moving fabric, whereby said movable shaft is caused to move in an oscillatory path.
8. In a device for winding fabrics, the combination with means for positively feeding fabric to a take-.upxoll of a guide roll adapted to be rotated by the moving fabric, a shaft at each end of said guide roll, one of said shafts being iournale'd in a relatively fixed position and the other shaft being vertically movable, a worm fixed to and rotatable with said movable shaft. a gear cooperating with said worm, a shaft carried by said gear, discs fixed to said shaft, links eccentrically and plvotally attached to said discs and adapted to cause said discs to rotate eccentrically upon rotation of said movable shaft by said moving fabric, whereby said movable shaft is caused to move in an oscillatory path.
