Description
July 11, 1944. HOPP PRICE TICKET MOLDING Filed Nov. 17, 1942 INVENTOR LEO Hop/=2 ATTORNEYS.
FIG. 1
WITNESS.
Patented July 11, 1944 PRICE TICKET MOLDING Leo Hopp, New York, N. Y., assignor to The Hopp Press, Incorporated, New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application November 17, 1942, Serial No. 465,849
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in price tickets moldings and more particularly it pertains to such devices as employ guards to protect the price tickets and prevent tampering therewith.
In a prior application filed January 28, 1942, Serial No. 428,516, I have illustrated a price ticket molding and guard. This device, however, has one disadvantage in that it interferes with the free removal of packaged goods from the shelf to which it is attached.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a price' ticket molding and guard therefor which may be so mounted upon a store shelfas not to interfere with the free removal of the packaged goods from the shelf.
It is a further object of the invention to provide such a device with a guard which may be readily removed for the purpose of changing the price tickets carried by the molding and yet a guard which will, at all times, be retained in position to protect the tickets.
With the above and other objects in view, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing, the following specification and claim.
In said drawing,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating a portion of a store shelf, a price ticket molding constructed in accordance with the present invention and a guard for use in connection therewith, and;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view on an enlarged scale taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the shelf is designated ill, the price ticket molding H, the guard therefor being designated I2.
The price ticket molding comprises a body portion l3, the major portion of the rear wall of which is flat as designated by the reference character l4. Upon its front face, it is preferably provided with a longitudinally extending rib or bead l5. Upon its upper edge, it is formed with a price ticket retaining flange I6, and'upon its lower edge it is formed with two flanges l1 and It. The flange I1 is spaced from the main body portion I? of the molding to provide seat means for freely receiving the lower edge of the price ticket, the upper edge of which is received behind the flange I6.
The guard l2 comprises a main body portion I9. This main body portion is formed of transparent material and overlies the front face of the body of the molding in spaced relation there- \to. Upon its upper edge, the guard is formed with a flange 20 which terminates in a return bend portion defining a downturned lip 2|.
The flange 20 of the guard I2 is adapted to overlie the upper edge of the price ticket molding with the return bend portion 2| thereof extending to a point to the rear of the upper edge of the main body portion IQ of the molding The upper edge of the main body portion l3 of the price ticket moldin is reduced in thickness as indicated at 25, which construction provides a space 21 between the upper edge of the price ticket molding and the front edge of the shelf to which the price ticket molding may be attached.
The reduced portion 25 may be formed in any one of various ways. For example, in a plastic molding, such as illustrated, the extruding die would be so shaped as to form the same. In the molding formed from wood, the reduced portion may be formed by rabbeting the upper edge of the rear face of the molding and in the case of a metal molding, the same could be formed by a slight off-set bend.
The molding is secured to the shelf l0 by means of screws 28 one of which is illustrated in Figure 2. In securing the molding to the forward edge of the shelf l0 it is. positioned with its upper edge below the plane of the upper face of the shelf III, a suflicient distance so that when the guard 2 is placed in position, the outer face of the flange 20 will be flush with the upper face of the shelf ID or slightly below the plane thereof.
The guard I2 is placed in position by inserting its lower edge in the space between the flanges l1 and |8. The guard is next moved towards the shelf to the position where the flange 20 will be positioned above the upper edge of the molding, after which it is moved downwardly to position the lip 2| cf the flange 20 in the space 21 between the reduced portion 25 of the body of the molding and the front edge of the-shelf III.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the present invention provides a new and noval construction in price ticket moldings in which provision is made for the use of a guard for the tickets carried by the molding without interfering with the free and easy removal of articles of merchandise from the shelf to the front edge in which a molding may be secured.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In combination, a price ticket molding and ticket protector therefor, said molding comprising a mainbody portion having a substantially flat back surface for fitting against the front end of a shelf, price ticket retaining means provided on-the front face of said body portion, a recess provided in the back of the main body inwardly from the top thereof and extending the length of said main body portion whereby when the 5 molding is secured to the front end of a. shelf the upper edge thereof will be spaced therefrom, a
guard comprising a transparent body portion overlying the front face of the molding, a seat provided, at the lower edge of the main body lo forward of the plane of the price ticket retaining
