DEVICE FOR DRAWING GOODS FROM FLAT KNITTING MACHINE Filed July 2, 1941 Inn/en Z021 Patentcd June 6,1944
DEVICE FOR DRAWING GOODS FROM FLAT KNITTING MACHINES Fritz Flimig, Chemnitl) Germany; vested in the Alien Property Custodian Application July 2, 1941, Serial No. 400,724
In Germany July 8, 1940 Claims.
This invention relates to a device for drawing goods from fiat knitting machines having a retracting device for the ribbons or straps which draw the goods.
With the devices for drawing off the goods known up till now, straps or girths are used which are fastened at one end onto the roll containing the goods and are connected at their other end by means of a hook and a double edged rod or welt wire to the goods to be drawn on in such a manner that on producing the goods the ribbons are gradually wound up with the goods by means of the take up roll.
Said known devices for drawing off goods have the disadvantage that after drawing off the goods, the ribbons or girths are liable to hang down from the roll containing the goods so as to come into contact with other parts of the machine and thus to get soiled or even caught.
There is further known a device for drawing off the goods in which there are provided at the free end of the girths or straps, retracting ropes which are wound up onto a specially driven retracting roll. This device possesses the disadvantage that, during the retraction of the goods, the pull of the so-called retracting device has to be set out of action and checked.
On the accompanying drawing there is shown a take-up device for goods according to the invention.
Fig. 1 showing the device in perspective view and Fig. 2 showing a detailed construction.
According to the invention 'a feature of novelty resides in the fact that the device for drawing oil the goods comprises two straps or ribbons b adapted to be wound uponto the roller a during the drawing of the goods and consisting of hard, pliable and resilient material (f. i. steel bands or hard but pliable leather strips or other girth or of a mass such as Cellophane, pressed material or the like) which after drawing off the goods c and turning back the roller a containing the goods, as well as in consequence of the spring action of said ribbons b, are pushed forward towards the needle section of the knitting machine during their initial positioning.
On turning back the roll containing the goods and reeling off the take-up straps, the open end is pressed downwards in consequence of the pressure of a double edged rod into connection with the double edgeof the goods to be newly knitted.
At the point where the straps or ribbons b are wound up onto the roller a there are provided two guides e fixed to a table d, each pair of guides e being spaced apart to provide an open slot f in order to assure a safe guidance of the ribbons b on the roller a. whilst the ribbons b'are wound up and to enable the hooks 0 fixed to. the ribbons b to pass through said slot f.
To the point where the band or ribbon is rolled onto the r011 or drum a, there are attached two tracks 9, each of which is provided with a guide surface and with bent up edges 11 extending over such surface. Each ribbon 11 passes over a guide surface of a track g and between such surface and the guide members 11 of that track and is safely guided on its way from the roller a. to the needle section.
In order to always bring the straps or ribbons b into their correct initial position on turning back the roller a and when the straps I) shoot forth, there is provided on the shafts h of the roller 0, a locking device by means of which, when the bands I) shoot forth towards the needle section, the shaft in of the roller a is arrested at the right moment.
Said locking device consists of a cam k fixed to the shaft h of the roll a.
On the outer surface of said cam is there is provided a parallel running groove 11 and connecting therewith a spiral-shaped groove 1 limited in its length.
Within saidgrooves l and 1) there is guided a spring pin m. Said pin m perpetually runs on winding up the ribbons in the parallel groove 11 in consequence of constantly contacting with the right hand edge of said groove whereas, on removing the goods and reversing the rotation of shaft h, the pin m is automatically led into the spiral groove 1.
When the pin m arrives at the end of the spiral groove 1 whilst removing the goods, the shaft h and thus also the roller a are arrested so that the take-up straps or ribbons are always brought into the same initial position.
What I claim is? 1. In a fiat knitting machine, a fabric'take-up mechanism which comprises, a take-up roll, a pair of take-up straps secured thereto and adapted to be wound thereon, means for guidin said straps toward their initial position, and a locking device associated with the take-up roll'and adapted to arrest the motion of said roll and straps when the latter have been returned to their initial position, said locking device comprising, a cam fixed to the shaft of the take-up roll, which cam has an annular groove and a spiral groove connecting therewith at one end and closed at the other end, in combination with a spring pressed pin adapted to engage in said grooves.
2. In a flat knitting machine, a fabric take-up mechanism which comprises, a take-up roll, a strap formed 01' resilient springlike material, one end of said strap being connected to the roll and windable freely into a spiral torsion spring therearound whereby the spring may expand and contract, and the other end of said strap being connectible to said fabric.
3. In a flat knitting machine, a fabric take-up mechanism which comprises, a take-up roll, a strap. formed of resilient springlike material, one end of said strap being connected to the roll and windable freely into a spiral torsion spring therearoimd whereby the spring may expand and contract, and the other end of said strap being connectible to said fabric, and means radially spaced from said take-up roll ior limiting the radial expansion of the spiral strap windings around said take-up roll when tension is relieved from the strap during th unwinding thereof.
4. In a flat knitting machine, a fabric take-up mechanism which comprises, a take-up roll, a pair 01' flat take-up straps, each strap being provided with a relatively narrow hook projecting substantially at right angles to the flat surface thereof, one end 0! each strap being connected to said roll and windable therearound into a spiral torsion spring, and a pair of guides for each strap, the guides in each of said pair partially encircling said roll and being spaced apart a distance less than the width of the strap to provide a slot adapted to permit passage of said hooks when the straps are wound upon the roll.
5. In a flat knitting machine, a fabric take-up mechanism which comprises, a take-up roll, a flat take-up strap, said strap being provided with a relatively narrow hook projecting. crosswise of the flat surface thereof, one end of said strap being connected to said roll and windable there- FRITZ r'mimc.
