Description

Patented May 30, 1944 MAILING DEVICE Abraham Deutschmeister and 'Herman Deutschmeister, New York, N. Y.
Application October 3, 1942, Serial No. 460,644
4 Claims.
O-ur present invention relates to mailing devices and more particularly yto devices of the general character indicated adapted to permit twoway mailing.
It is the main object of the present invention to provide a mailing device so designed `that a message may be included therein on the outgoing trip, for example, a request for a payment on an installment account, and so designed as to permit the device `to be sealed and returned to the original sender with an enclosure, such as a check in response to such request.
Our presentinvention aims to provide a device for the purposes indicated which is simple in construction, easy and economical to fabricate and assemble and which is admirably adapted to perform the intended functions.
In the accompanying specication we shall describe and in the annexed drawing show an illustrative embodiment of the mailing device of the present invention. It is however, to be clearly understood that the present invention is not to be limited to the exact details of construction herein shown and described for purposes of illustration only, inasmuch as changes therein may be made without invention and within the scope of the claims hereto appended.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the present invention, shown in condition to be sent out on the original trip.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the same, shown in condition permitting the addressee to read the message borne thereby.
Figure 3 is a similar view of the same, shown in a condition permitting the re-mailing of the device back to the original addressor; and
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken along line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring now more in detail to the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the present invention and with particular reference to the drawing illustrating the same, the numeral Ill generally designates an envelope or carrier portion of the mailing device of the present invention, which carrier portion includes a section II, comprising a rear wall, two side sections I2 and I3 integrally formed with the section II and adapted to be folded thereover, as best seen in Figure 2, and a section I4, likewise integrally formed with the section II and adapted to be folded over the tWo side sections, the sections I2, I3 and I4 comprising a front wall, and the arrangement being such that the sections II, I2, I3, and I4 constitute an envelope closed on three sides.
Integrally formed with the section II and eX- tending therefrom along the edge opposite that from which the section I4 extends, is a ilap I5, the flap being provided, along its upper edge, `as at I6, with sealing gum, the iiap being adapted to bear, on the inner surface thereof, a message Il and instructions I8 as to how the device is to be used for the return trip.
The section I4 is provided with a flap I9, deiined on three sides, by lines of perforations 20, and on the fourth side, by a score line 2l, this flap being adapted to bear, on its outer surface, the name and address 22 of the original addressee.
The section I2, is adapted to bear the name and address 23 of the original addressor and the section I3 is adapted to bear, in the upper right hand corner thereof, the postage stamp 24, or other postage indicia.
This completes the description of the structure of the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the present invention and the manner of using the same may be briey summarized as follows:
For the outgoing trip, the flap I5 is tucked within the carrier Ill intermediate the rear and front Walls thereof, the section I2 bearing the name and address of the addressor, the flap I9 bearing the name and address of the addressee, and the section I3 bearing the postage stamp. When the carrier is received by the addressee, the flap I5 is removed from between the walls thereof and the message Il read. By following the instructions I8, likewise borne by the flap I5, the carrier can be used for return mailing. These instructions are carried out by rst pushing in the flap I9, the same being separable from the front wall of the carrier along the lines of perforations 20. This flap is folded back against the inner surface of the front wall of the carrier along the score line 2l. This operation leaves an opening 25 in the front wall of the carrier and this reveals the name and address 26 of the original addressor who has now become the addressee, this name and address being printed upon the inner surface of the rear wall of the carrier. The flap I5 which was originally tucked within the carrier can now be sealed over the front wall of the carrier and the outer surface thereof may bear the name and address 21 of the addressor who was the original addressee. In the opposite corner of the flap I5, there may be placed a postage stamp 28 for the return trip. It will be noted that the flap I5, in its position for the return trip, in addition to sealing the envelope, which may now contain a'check 29 or other enclosure carried intermediate the inner surface of the front wall and the folded back flap I9, serves to conceal the name and address 23 of the original addressor and the cancelled post mark for the outgoing trip.
If desired, the flap I9, may be provided with a gummed edge so that when it is folded back against the front Wall of the carrier, it can form a sealed pocketvv to enclose coins, etc.
This completes the description of the mode of use of the present invention and it will be noted from all of the foregoing that there is provided a two-Way mailing device which is simple in construction, easy and economical to fabricate and assemble and which is admirably adapted :arable from saidfront wall along said perforations, and'being foldable along Vsaid score line back against the inner surface of said front Wall to present an opening, in said front Wall, revealing a return address borne by the inner surface of said rear Wall.
2. A' two-Way mailing device comprising a carrier portion including front and rear walls, and a message bearing iiap adapted to be tucked intermecliatel said Walls on the outgoing trip, said front Wall being provided with lines of perfora tions defining asecondflap adapted to bear a mailing address, said second flap being Vseparable from front Wall along said perforations to present an opening, in said front Wall, .revealing a return address borne by the inner surface of said rear wall, and said first nap being removable from said carrier portion to seal the latter and simultaneously conceal the outgoing cancelled post mark for the return trip.
3. A two-Way mailing device comprising a carrier portion including front and rear walls, and a message bearing flap` adapted to be tucked intermediate said walls on the outgoing trip, said front Wall being provided with a score line and 1 lines of perforations dening a second flap adapted to bear a mailing address, said second ap being separable from said front wall along said perforations and being foldable along said score line back againstthe inner surface of said front Wall to present an opening, in said front Wall, revealing a return address borne by the inner surface of said rear Wall, and said rst iiap being removable from said carrier portion to seal the latter and simultaneously conceal the outgoing cancelled post mark for the return trip. 4.lA'two-Way mailing device comprising a carrier portion including front and rear Walls, said front Wallbeing provided with a score line and lines of perforations defining a flap adapted to bear a mailing address, said flap being separable from said front Wall along said perforations, and being foldable along said score line back against the inner surface of Vsaid front wall to present an opening, in said iront wall, revealing a return address borne lby thetinner surface of said rear wall, and to cooperate with said front wall to form a pocket.
