TYPEWRITER SUPPORT Filed Nov.l 17, 1941 a'sheets-sheet 2 A ttor/ley Patented May 9, 1944 UNITED STATES TENT oF15-ICPE-A 2 Claims.
will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings: Figure 1 represents a longitudinal sectional view through the cabinet showing the support in concealed position.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view showing the support in extended position.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the cabinet with the parts as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the platform.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that A generally refers to a cabinet which has a top 5, bottom 6, back wall 1, side walls 8, 8 and a removable front closure 9, and these walls are all supported by front corner posts I0, Ill, rear posts II, II and upper and lower connecting members I2, I3 for the front and rear posts. The posts I Il and connecting members I2, I3 form a front frame in the cabinet A.
The typewriter support forming the present invention is generally referred to by numeral I4.
In carrying out the present invention, a platform structure is provided and consists of a substantially rectangular-shaped plate I5 having depending side walls IB, I 5 to the forward and rearward end of which forward and rearwardly located pairs of pivotal links I1, I1 and I8, I8 are connected. The lower ends of these links are pivotally connected to the forward and intermediate portions respectively of bars I9 bridgingthe lower portions of corresponding forward and rearward corner posts Il), II. Spring means 20 is associated with the lower pivot point of each of the link members I1 to assist in bringing the support to extended position when 1 slightly urged in that direction. A bumper member 2| bridges the rear corner posts II and is intended as a stop for the platform plate I5.
Suitably secured to the top of the platform plate I5 and extending well forwardly thereof are beams 22, 22 each carrying a pair of circumferentially grooved rollers 23, 23.
Numeral 24 denotes a table having a cover plate 25 upon which a typewriter 26 can be secured and at the bottom side of this table 24 and adjacent each longitudinal edge thereof is an elongated slotted guideway 21. These guideways 21 receive the grooved rollers 23, the edge portions of the guideways 21 at the slots thereof riding the groove of the rollers 23. Thus the table 24 is supported upon the platform structure shown in Figure 4 and is capable of being slid thereon.
As can be seen in Figure 2, the rear end portion of the table 24 at each longitudinal edge thereof is provided with a roller 30 which is capable of riding a vertically disposed spring arm 3l, which serves as a track and which is secured as at 32 to the corresponding forward leg III.
When it is desired to bring the typewriter to useful position, the closure 9 in Figure 1 is opened and the table 24 slides outwardly on the platform shown in Figure 2. The typewriter is now in extended position but not in elevated position. By a further pull, the links I1, I8 will be moved outwardly and in this action the platform will rise carrying with it the table 24 which will be prevented from returning into the cabinet by reason of the abutting relation of the rollers 3! against the spring tracks 3 I.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In combination, a compartment having an open front frame, and a typewriter support including a platform in said compartment, a table surmounting said platform, means whereby said table is mounted on said platform for sliding movement thereon inwardly and outwardly of said front frame, means whereby said platform is mounted in said compartment for swinging movement upwardly and horizontally toward said front frame to thereby elevate said table into a higher horizontal plane after the same has been moved outwardly of the front frame, and devices on said front frame and said table, respectively, cooperatively related by elevation of the table to block movement of the table inwardly of said front frame when said table is elevated.
2. In combination, a compartment having an open front frame, and a typewriter support incooperatively related by elevation of the table to block movement of the table inwardly of said front frame when said table is elevated, said devices comprisng a pair of arms depending from said front frame upon opposite sides of the table, respectively, and a pair of rollers on opposite sides of said table for engaging said arms, and movable past the arms below the same under sliding movement of the table.
