The present invention relates to devices for dispensing relatively soft compositions in molded form. Hereafter, reference to such compositions will be made by identifying the same as being wax-like although it is to be understood thatthe invention is not limited to devices for .use with relativly soft molded compositions containing wax in any minimum proportion. Any and all compositions which are relatively soft and which are premc-ded sov as to be self-supporting may be employed. These compositions should preferably not be as hard as the leads of ordinary pencils. Compositions suitable for use as lipsticks and eyebrow pencils exemplify the general texture, hardness, softness and deformability of compositions which are suitable for use in the device hereinafter described in detail.

Relatively soft, molded and wax-like compositions of this general character need be used or applied in small quantities and very often it is essential to apply such compositions in the form of a thin line so as to produce the desired effect. By reason of the fact that the compositions are relatively weak and soft, they can not be molded into leads or other objects having the thinness of an ordinary pencil lead. Lipsticks, for example, have a diameter of to V2 inch whereas eyebrow pencils have leads ranging from /8 to inch. A lipstick or eyebrow pencil provided with a blunt point will not create a sufiiciently thin line answering the requirements of the user. Attempts to sharpen these pencils by the. use of cutting instruments such as knives, are unsatisfactory since the relatively soft composition is readily broken.

-The present invention pertains to a device forodispensing relatively soft wax-like compositions in molded form and in facilitating the formation of a sharp thin point or edge on such molded member, thereby permitting the user to apply the composition and to form lines of any desired width or thinness.

Generally stated, the device of this invention is particularly directed toward a .dispenser similar to a self-feeding or ejecting pencil including a holder having an ejecting mechanism therein. The device is provided with a relatively stiff nozzle carried by the holder, said nozzlebeing adapted to slidably receive and guidingly support the molded wax-like composition member which is ejected by the mechanism. This nozzle is provided with an inclined face at an acute angle to the axis of the nozzle, the end face being adapted to act as aguide in abrading the composition member extending from the nozzle and beyond such face so as to facilitate the formation of a point or sharp edge on such composition member without breaking the same and Without necessitating the use of sharp instruments.

An object of this invention, therefore, is to disclose and provide a device for dispensing relatively soft wax like compositions in molded form and in providing means whereby such molded members may be readily sharpened without the use of cutting instruments.

Another object is to provide a device for dispensing eyebrow compositions, lipstick or the like and in facilitating the formation of a sharp point or edge on such composition.

These and other objects, advantages, uses and adaptations of the invention will become 'apparent to those skilled in the art from the following detailed description of certain illustrative forms of the invention.

In order to facilitate understanding, reference will be had to the appended drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 illustrates a device comprising a. holder l0 containing an ejecting mechanism which may be operated in the customary manner as, for example, by rotation of the end I I. The housing l0 may be provided with a nozzle l2 through which the molded, relatively soft wax-like member l3 can be ejected. As shown in Fig. 2, the nozzle l2 may comprise a piece of tubing (which may be square, circular, elliptical or polygonal in cross section), the sectional contour of the nozzle I2 corresponding to the sectional contour of the molded member l3. The nozzle I! as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, may be tubular and may be attached to the end of the holder ID in any suitable manner as, for example, by brazing. The length of such nozzle l2 should exceed the diameter thereof and preferably the nozzle' l2 has a length which is two or more times the diameter thereof. The nozzle I2 is further provided with an end face It lying at an angle of less than 45 degrees to the axis of the nozzle. The nozzle I2 is preferably of a stifl material such as metal and has an appreciable wall thickness so that the endface i4 is capable of acting as a guide.

The molded, relatively soft member I3 is shown in partly ejected position in Fig. 1 and it will be seen that the end of the member so ejected is blunt. Such blunt end is-not suitable in forming thin lines. The device in the condition shown in Fig. 1 is then manipulated in such mannerv as to abrade the elected portion of the member l3, the end face ll of the nozzle l2 acting as a guide during such abrasion. Since the member I3 is relatively soft, the protruding rounded end can be readily abraded so as to form an inclined face or end on the member l3, the inclined face being indicated at IS in Fig. 2. After this operation is performed, the ejecting mechanism is again actuated so as to cause the member l3 to move out of the nozzle I2 and assume the position indicated in Fig. 2. It will now be seen that the member l3 not only has an inclined face I5 but such face terminates in a sharp edge or point l6 which can now be used in applying the composition of the member IS in the form of thin lines.

Figs. 4 to 8, inclusive, refer to a slightly modifled form of device, such device now comprising a holder for the rear portion 20 and the front portion 2|. Both of the members 20 and 2| are hollow as shown in greater detail in Figs. 5 and 6. The butt end of the rear member 20 may be internally threaded as indicated at 22. The bore of the member 2| may be provided with a pair of opposing longitudinally extending slots, indicated at 23 and 24 respectively. A circular groove 25 may also be formed in the bore of the member 2| adjacent the butt end thereof. The front end of the member 2| may also be provided with an inclined end face 26, such end face being adapted toform a guide as previously described. It will be noted that the front end of the member 2|, adjacent the inclined end face 26, acts as a nozzle and guidingly supports and slidably receives the molded composition member 13. This composition member I3 is carried by a socket 21 having diametrically opposed lugs 28 adapted to fit into the longitudinal recesses 23 and 24. Firmw attached to the socket 27 is an externally threaded rod 29 which passes through an internally threaded union 30, a portion of said union being externally threaded as indicated at 3|, such externally threaded portion 3| being adapted to be threaded into and engage with the internally threaded portion 22 of the rear member 20. Theunion member 30 also carries a split ring 32 which'is adapted to be forced into the annular groove 25 formed near the butt end of the front member 2 I. I

When the union member 30 is threadedly connected to the rear portion 20 as described, it will rotate therewith. Rotation of the rear member 20 will therefore impart rotation to the union or coupling member 30 and such union or coupling member will then act as a feed nut for the ex temally threaded rod 29 which is prevented from rotation by reason of the engagement of the lugs 28 with the longitudinal grooves 23 and 24 formed in the inner walls of the front member 2|. In this manner the molded composition member l3 may be fed out of the nozzle portion of the front member 2| by simple rotation of the rear body member 20. The formation of a sharp point on the soft composition member I3 is accomplished by abrading the same against any suitable flat surface whfle using the inclined end face 28 as a guide.

It is to be noted that with the device of this invention a uniformly sharp point or edge is always obtained and the character of the point formed is not dependent upon any sharpening technique, quality of instruments used for sharpening, or other variables.

Although in the description given hereinabove specific reference has been made to eyebrow pencils and lipsticks, other substances can also be employed. For example, certain soft or past? grease paints may be dispensed in devices of this invention so as to permit fine lines to be drawn upon the face for make-up purposes. Nail whitening compositions may also be suitably dispensed I in these devices, the resulting wedge-shaped point facilitating the introduction of' the whitening agent beneath the nails. Moreover, pastels, crayons and other compositions used by artists may be handled in the same manner, the device of the invention permitting the formation of a sharp point even though the composition is brittle, thereby facilitating the work of the artist and permitting finer detail to be shown.

All changes, modifications, adaptations and uses coming within the scope of the appended claims are embraced thereby.

I claim:

1. In a device for dispensing eyebrow compositions, lipstick or similar relatively soft wax-like compositions in molded form, the combination of a holder; a stationary stiff hollow nozzle attached'to said holder, and having an end face lying at an acute angle to the axis of said nozzle and holder, said nozzle being adapted to slidably receive, guide and support a molded wax-like composition rod adapted to be ejected through said hollow nozzle, the said end face being adapted to act as a guide in abrading the composition rod extending from the nozzle and beyond said face to shape said rod into truncated pointed form and means for restraining rotation of the composition within said nozzle.

'2. In a device for dispensing eyebrow compositions lipstick or similar relatively soft waxlike compositions in molded form, the combination of: a holder; a stationary stiff nozzle having an appreciable wall thickness attached to said holder, and having an end face lying at an acute angle to the axis of said nozzle and holder, said nozzle being adapted to slidably receive, guide and support a molded wax-like composltion rod adapted to be ejected through said nozzle, the wall thickness of'said end face being adapted to act as a guide in abrading the composition rod extending from the nozzle and beyond said face to shape said rod into truncated pointed form.

3. In a device for dispensing eyebrow compositions, lipstick or similar soft, wax-like compositions, the combination of: a body member proportion having an appreciable wall thickness and having an end face lying at an acute angle to the axis of the nozzle and body member; a waxlike composition rod in said hollow nozzle adapted to be selectively ejected therefrom; means for restraining rotation of the composition rod withfrom the nozzle and beyond said face to shape said rod into'truncated, pointed form.

4. In a device for dispensing eyebrow composition, lipstick or similarrelatively soft, waxlike compositions, the combination of: a body member provided with astiil', hollow nozzleportiorn adapted to be grasped by the fingers, said nozzleand body portion being in axial alignment, the nozzle having an end face lying at an acute angle to the axis of said nozzle and body member; a waxlike composition rod in said hollow nozzle adapted to be selectively ejected therefrom; means for restraining rotation of the composition rod within said nozzle: an ejecting mechanism within the body member, the said end face being adapted to act as a guide in abrading the composition rod extending from the nozzle. and beyond said fade to shape said rod into truncated, pointed form.

In a device for dispensing eyebrow, lipstick or similar relatively soft waxlike compositions end of the guide as worn, said guide having a front face lying at an acute angle with respect to the axis of thesame to permit the end of the rod to be shaped to truncated form with the peak indicating and forming an initial point of hairline contact that may be increased in width upon further application, and the end of the rod permanently retaining such form as progressively used.

6. In a device for dispensing eyebrow, lipstick or' similar relatively soft waxlike compositions in rod form, a holder adapted to be held stationary by the fingers comprising a rigid tubular guide substantially annular in cross section, said holder being adapted to receive a correspondingly shaped rod of waxlike composition, means to progressively eject the rod through the front end of the guide as .worn, said guide having a front face lying at an acute angle with respect to the axis of the same to permit the end of the rod to be shaped to truncated formwith the peak indicating and forming an initial point of hair-line contact that inay be guide.
