Description

April 25, 1944. c N 2,347,485
NECK'I'IE ROLLER MOUN'i ING Filed Sept. 15, 1942- INVENTOR.
C/if/d M/f nney ATTaRA/EX Patented Apr. 25, 1944 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The purpose of this invention is to provide means for mounting rollers in the neck band portions of neckties to facilitate sliding the tie backward and forward in a. collar.
The invention is an eyelet with bearings formed in the upper edge for trunnions of a roller with the roller positioned in the central opening of the eyelet.
Various devices have been [provided for endeavoring to eliminate the friction which causes a necktie to pull very hard through, particularly starched or laundered collars, but these have not been successful, and before the introduction of the common eyelet it has been found very difficult to mount a roller successfully, but it has been found that the eyelet provides a very efficient mounting.
The object of this invention is therefore, to provide means for mounting rollers in the neck band portions of neckties so that the rollers will facilitate sliding of the tie in a collar or the like.
Another object is to provide means for mounting rollers in neckties without changing the construction of the necktie.
A further object is to provide means for mounting rollers in neckties whereby one surface only of the roller engages a collar in which the tie may be placed.
And a still further object is to provide a suitable mounting for rollers so that they may be inserted in neckties which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these ends in view the invention embodies eyelets adapted to be inserted in the portion of a necktie that is normally positioned in a collar, in which oppositely positioned recesses are located in the upper flange of the eyelet, a complementary flange having corresponding recesses crimped over the said upper flange, and a roller with trunnions in the eyelet and positioned with the trunnions extending into the recesses forming bearings for the said roller.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein- Figure 1 shows a necktie with the rollers in the intermediate portion thereof.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the roller mounting with a roller therein.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the mounting with part broken away.
Figure 4 is a cross section through the mount- Figure 5 is a view showing an alternate design in which the roller is journalled in the sides of the eyelet.
In the drawing the mounting is shown as it may be made wherein numeral l indicates a roller, numeral 2 an eyelet in which the roller may be mounted, and numeral 3 a necktie having the rollers mounted therein.
The roller l is made with journals 4 and 5 and these are freely rotatable in bearings 6 and 1 formed by opposed recesses in an upper flange 8 of the eyelet 2 and in a complementary flange 9 which is secured to the flange 8 by crimping the edges thereof over the flange 8 of the eyelet. With the roller mounted in this manner the eyelet is secured in a necktie by inserting it through a hole in the neckband portion l0 thereof and placing a washer l I on the other end of the eyelet and crimping the end I2 of the eyelet over the washer as shown. The eyelet is thereby securely clamped in the necktie holding the roller therein.
In the design shown in Figure 5 the journals l3 and M are rotatably held in holes of an eyelet, the journals extending from a roller l5 into the holes !6 and ll of the inner surface of an eyelet and the eyelet is secured in a neckband I9 of a necktie by crimping the ends 20 and 2| over the tie as shown. The inner ends 22 of the trunnions may be upset as shown to locate the roller in the center of the eyelet if desired.
It will be understood that other changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the mounting means without departing from the spirit of the invention, one of which changes may be in the use of a roller or rollers of any other type, another may be in the use of other means for holding the flange 9 to the eyelet, and still another may be in the use of other means for securing the eyelet in the necktie.
The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the rollers may be mounted in eyelets as shown and described and these may be inserted in the intermediate portion of a necktie with the rollers toward the outer surface, or toward the inner surface, or with some rollers toward both surfaces and with the rollers positioned in a necktie in this manner the tie may readily be slid back and forth through a collar or the like with absolute ease.
Having thus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A mounting for necktie rollers comprising an eyelet having a flange at one end with oppositely positioned recesses extending radially thereacross, a complementary flange with corresponding recesses crimp'ed to the said eyelet flange, a roller having trunnions positioned in the eyelet with the trunnions rotatable in the said recesses of the flanges, and means clamping the eyelet in a necktie or the like.
2. A mounting as described in claim 1, in which the clamping means comprises a separate flange clamped against the necktie by a crimped over flange at the end of the eyelet opposite to that in which the roller is mounted.
