WITNESSES E N R O T A N. PETERS, PHOTmLITHOGRAPHER. wAsHmGmN. 0 cv llNrTEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. BAILEY, OF COBALT, CONNECTICUT.
TOY MONEY-BANK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,518, dated November 16, 1880.
Application filed October 9, 1880.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. BAILEY, of Cobalt, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and valu able Improvement in Toy Money-Banks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and ures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are details.
This invention relates to toy money-banks; and it consists in the device hereinafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, A represents a receptacle having on top a slit, (1, through which coin may be dropped. Hinged by its hind feet, I), to stud a, is an elephant, B, having a baby, C, pivoted between its fore legs, I). Extending through the body of the elephant is a rod, D, terminating in the tongue (I. The baby Chas extending from the top of its head a stud, 0, having forks 0 c Between the hind legs of the elephant, andt'astened t0 stud a, is a plate-spring, F.
. Surrounding slit to is a recess, (0 just the shape and size of baby C, and projecting over the rear edge of such recess is a catch, (1.
On the under side of the top of the receptacle, within the same, there is pivoted adisk, H, upon stud h, the end of the latter projecting up through the top and having the hands 4'. z" of the dial I affixed thereto. To one side of disk H there is a slot, h.
When it is desired to fasten the box, the
. elephant with the baby is thrown down, press- (Model) ing on spring 1 the baby filling the recess c and stud c fitting the end of slit to next the dial. The disk is then turned until the sloth registers with the end of slit a, when the rear end of the baby is placed under the catch a and the disk is turned until the edge engages the slot between the forks c 0 when the bank is locked.
To open it turn the disk until its slot registers with slit a, when the spring F will throw the elephant and baby back and open the bank for deposits. When the slot and slit register, the figure at which the shorter hand of the dial rests indicates the distance the disk will have to be turned to open the bank.
This device may be ornamented in any manner to give it a pleasing effect, the ornamentation shown being one of many.
The combination of receptacle A, having slit a, recess a and dial I, in combination with catch a disk H, having slot h, stud h, with hands 6 t, spring F, elephant B, and baby C, pivoted thereto, and having stud c with forks c c".
2. The combination of a receptacle having a slit and catch with the pivoted spring-acted closing device and a slotted rotating lockingplate.
3. The rod D, extending through the elephants body and ending in tongue (I.
In testimony that I claim the above 1 have hereunto subscribed my name in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. A. BAILEY.
