1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in supportsfor electric hand drills and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, means for expediting the removal of sheared off stud bolts from the axles of motor trucks Without the necessity of removing the wheels.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a portable support for electric hand drills comprising novel means for removably mounting the drill on the work.
Still another very important object of the invention is to provide a portable support of the character described which includes means for feeding the drill to the work. I
Other objects of the invention are to provide a portable drill support of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efiicient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a portable support constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the device in use.
Figure 2 is an elevational view, taken at right angles to Figure 1. v
Figure 3 is a top plan view.
Figure 4 is a view in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a view in vertical section through the lower portion of the device, taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a detail view in vertical section,
taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a circular base I of suitable metal. The base I is provided with marginal apertures 2 which accommodate bolts 3 for removably securing said base in position on the Work, as at 4.
The base I is further provided with a comparatively large, central opening 5 (see Figure 5) into which one end portion of a tubular post or sup port 6 is threaded. Projecting at right angles from the other end of the tubular post or support 5 is an arm I. A circular metallic plate 8 is fixed on the arm i as by welding.
A feed screw 9 is threadedly mounted in the plate 8. On one end, the feed screw 9 is provided with an operating crank I9. A head H is journaled eccentrically on the other end portion of the feed screw 9.
It is thought that the operation of the support will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the base i is provided with a marginal opening which accommodates the tool 12 of a conventional portable electric drill iii. The base i is bolted on the work 4 with the tool receiving opening in said base aligned with the broken bolt in said work which is to be removed. The tool I2 is then inserted and the feed screw 9 is actuated to engage the head H with the upper or outer end of the drill l3. As the drilling operative progresses the screw 9 is actuated to feed the tool I2 to the work.
It is believed that the many advantages of a portable support for electric hand drills constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
- What is claimed is:
A portable support of the character described for electric hand drills comprising, a circular metallic bas having marginal openings therein, bolts engageable in certain of the openings for removably mounting said base on the work, a tubular post threadedly mounted on the base, an arm on one end portion of the post, an apertured, circular plate fixed on said arm, and a manually operable feed screw threadedly mounted in the plate and engageable with one end of an electric drill for feeding said drill to the work, the tool of the drill being operable in one of the openings in the base.
