The presser foot bar i8 is of the usual type and may be elevated and lowered by proper manipulation of the hand lever 22. The presser foot 25 cooperates with feed dogs 2 which pass through slots 26 in a cover plate 28 provided in the work suport [2. The feed dogs 24 are actuated by a conventional four-motion feed-actuating mechanism (not shown). Except for the specific construction of the presser foot 28 hereinafter more fullyexplained, the aforementioned details and features of construction are part of a standard sewing machine. i

The presser foot 20 is provided at its upper end with 'achanneled lug 3il,'which is adapted to receive'the presser foot bar It and be secured in position thereon by a set screw 32.- At the opposite end, the presser foot 20 is bifurcated to produce toes 34, and 35 separated by a slot 38 through which the needle 16 passes.

To properly maintain the material in uniform laterally spaced relationship with respect to the needle so that during the stitching operation a uniform line of stitching (with respect to at least the edge of the material) is secured, the presser foot 20 is provided with a guide, generally designated by the reference numeral 4i]. As shown in Figures 4 and 8,-the' guide All comprises a spring arm 4|, which is secured at its upper end tothe presser foot 20 in any suitable manner," as, for example, "by soldering. The spring arm BI is provided at the opposite end with a substantially inverted J-shaped member; which is adapted to be positioned on the toe 36. I-claim: i. A sewingmachine comprising a, reciprocatingneedle, feed dogs; a slotted-presserfoot coopcrating with said feed dogs, a folder in advance will be disposed between an upper and lower ply formed by the materials joined by-the seam and present the thus-folded material to the presser foot and-for {stitchingby the needle through at leastthe' upper and lower plies, said folder having a slot extending longitudinally thereof to receive the raw edges andthe line of stitching of a seamed material, the upperand lower plies extending outwardly from the slot being positioned over and under the folder respectively, said folder having its exit end substantial-1y triangular cross-section, and a substantially inverted J- shaped member disposed on one toe of said presser foot,t'he 'longleg of said inverted J-shaped member being positioned to engagethe exposed edge ofthe folded material passing beneath said toe and. maintain the same in uniform laterally spaced relationship with respect to the path of travel oftheneed'le whereby stitching of the folded material at a uniform distancefrom the edge is secured as the material is fed through the path of theneedle of the machine, the short leg cf'said invertedfJ-shaped member being posi-' tioned inthe's'lot of the presser foot andengagjingf theinner surface" of the toe on which said verted J-shaped member is positioned.

A sewing machine comprising a reciprocating needle, feed dogs, a presser foot cooperating with said feed dogs, a bracket secured to the work support of said machine, a holder pivotally mounted on said bracket, an arm rotatably and slidably positioned in said holder, means to secure said arm in adjusted position in said holdmg needle, feed dogs, a slotted presser foot coop-.5;
