2. A golfgclub jcornprising a shaft having a bearing portiont extending lat `an olotuse :angle relativey thereto and` an enlargement Vat y,the juncture of the shaft andbearing portion, a headhav- Ving abearing sleeve longitudinally-projecting the backr 'intermediate' the longitudinal edges thereof, a shallow recess inthe/back facethereof adjacent to but-spacedffrm the toer en d thereof and an enlargedinnenendend-,bore portion, said i enlargement and end having coacti'ng '.op'positely bevelledradialteeth andA notches,y Vand a nut threaded on the qiiter jena` l` or the bearing 'porti -within the nut degrees; or less-in and partially received in the recess to force the teeth and notches together to' lock the head against turningin any angular positionor to release the-saine to permit rturning thereof, said ^nut having a radialarm for turning th'e same and y being limited in its rotation between the portions of the back face of the head on opposite'sides of the recess, the teeth and notches, and threads being so constructed asv to cause interiitting engagement and disengagement of vthe teeth'and notches by suchlimited rotation of vthe nut in reverse directions, and the outer end of the re.-

cess being se spaced from the nut as to uma the unscr'ewing of the nut. v

3. In a golf club, a shaft having a shank portion and a solid'smooth cylindricalbearing portion with a reduced coarse pitch threaded end,

said shank having a cylindrical enlargement at the end of the bearing portion adjacent the sh'aft forming an enlarged radial shoulder having oppositely bevelled radial teeth and notches and a smooth annular extension forming a reduced radial shoulder larger than' the bearing portion, a head having a central longitudinal bearing ysleeve intermediate the edges thereof at the back face and terminating short of the toe end thereof rotatably and axially'movable on f the bearing portion and an annular enlargement at th'e heel end, said enlargement being provided at the end thereof with similar teeth and notches andengage the reduced shoulder anda nut threaded on the reduced threaded end yagainst th'e free end of the bearing sleeve spaced from the toe end of the head, the pitch of the threads being such as to cause interlocking of the teeth and notches or clearance therebetween, by turning and longitudinal movement of the nut in reverse directions and adaptedwhen loosened to permit shifting of th'e head along the'bearing portion to cause release of theteeth` from the notches or when tightened to cause yclamping of the teeth and notches together whereby the head may be angularly adjusted and held.

4. In a golf club, a shaft h'avingfa lshank portion and a bearing portion with a threaded end, said shank having an enlargement around the bearing portion provided with intervening teeth cess to clamp or release the head by turning on the threaded end a half revolution, orless, and a radial arm on the nut to limit the turning thereof by engagement with rthe back' face of f the head at opposite sides of the recess.

5. In a golf club, a shaft having a shankporf` ,tion'anda bearing portion with a threaded end and having quick-pitch threads, said shank having an enlargement around the bearing portion provided with intervening teeth and notches equally beveled in opposite directions, a reversible club head having a bearing sleeve fitting said bearing portion and having the inner end thereof of the opposedy teeth and notches and having an open recess in its back face between the sleeve f opposingthe aforesaid teeth and notches and an i enlarged counterbore with an end shoulder to t provided with intervening teeth and notches also equally beveledin opposite directions intertting with the aforesaid teeth and notches, said head being shiftable axially on the bearing portion to cause intertting engagement and disengagement and the toe end of the. head,` a clamping nut on the threaded end of thebearing portion and ex` tendingI into the recess, said recess being `offsuch a length withgrespect to the nut to limitthc llon`- gitudinal movement of the nut and said notches and threads being constructed to clamp or release the head by turning onthe threaded end a half revolution or less within said recess, anda radial annV on the nut to turn thelatter a half revoluf tion only and to limit the turning thereof by@ engagement withthe'back face of the1 head at i opposite sides of the recess.

6. In a golf club, a shaft having a shank'portion and a bearing portion;k with a reduced threaded vend forming a shoulder, saidr shank having a circular enlargement around and at its juncture with the bearing portion, provided with a radial shoulder facing outwardlyltowardI the threaded end, and having oppositely beveled intervening radial teeth and notches, and a cen-"` tral projecting shoulder smallerr than the Afirstr shoulder and larger than th'e bearingy portion,.a

y reversible club head having a lengthwise'bearing sleeve intermediate its edges, open at both ends, and receiving said bearing portion to turn thereon with theiirst shoulder spaced from the free end of the sleeve intowhich theth'readed portion extends,v and an enlarged circular enlargement and notches beveled in opposite directions, a. f

club head having a bearing sleeve fittingksai'd bearing portion and havingthe inner end thereof a clamping nut engaged on the threaded end 'of f the bearing portion and extending into th'e reat itsinner end with similar opposltelybeveled intervening teeth andr notches interlocking with the aforesaid teeth `and notches infrotatably adjusted position, ettdifferent angular positions of pitchjor loftof the head, and a quick operating nut threaded yon the threaded end of the'bearing portion against the free end of the sleeve, spaced from the toe end ofthe head and limited in its turning to approximately 180, the pitch' of the ythreads being greater lthan thek depthfof the teeth and notch'es to clamp` the said head on the; bearing portion' in adjusted position or torelease the nut in resame by such limited turning of verse directions.
