Ralph Simon, New York, and Nathaniel M. Lurrain, Jackson Heights, N. Y.;- said Lurrain assignor to said Simon Application September Claims.
The present invention relates to a folder and it particularly relates to a photographic folder for displaying and showing a plurality of photographs.
It is, among the objects of the present invention to provide a simple, inexpensive, readily handled and manipulated photographic folder for displaying a plurality of photographs. Another object is to provide a photograph receiver and display device which may be compactly carried and then readily opened and utilized for display purposes.
Still further objects and advantages will appear in the more detailed description set forth below, it being understood, however, that this more detailed description is given by way of i1- lustration and explanation only, and not by wayv of limitation, since various changes therein may be made by those skilled in' the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the present' invention.
In accomplishing the above objects, it has been found most satisfactory to form the photographic folder with a one-piece back which may have a plurality of folds therein, and which serve as the means of support for one or more intermediate pages which may be folded together.
Photographs or pictures may be attached either by adhesive connection or by frames or envelope mountings, so that when the folder is opened, these photographs may all be viewed substantially simultaneously.
In one form of construction, the elongated back may be constructed of one piece of relatively stiff paper which may be provided with a central fold line and on each side of the fold line there may be provided an indentation for receiving one or more leaflets or sheets, which together with the inside faces of the folder, are designed to carry the photographs or pictures to be displayed.
central fold line to form a compact collapsed folder which may be readily carried in the pocket in a closed condition, and which may be 'readily removed from the pocket and opened for display purposes.
The folder may also be provided with a plu- 8, 1941, Serial No. 410,053 (Cl. 12920) rality of enclosures or envelopes formed of a transparent film material such as Pliofilm (a' rubber hydrochloride film), Cellophane (a regenerated cellulose film) or Vinylite (a synthetic 5 resin film), thermo-plastic films, however, being generally preferred.
Referring to the drawings which illustrate one of the various possible embodiments of the present invention, but to which the present invention is by no means restricted, since the drawings are merely by way of illustration and not by way of limitation,
Figs. 1 and 2 are front perspective views showing one form of the folder, respectively, in a collapsed and open position,
, Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view upon the line 33 of Fig. 1, upon an enlarged scale as compared to Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view upon the line of 4-4 of Fig. 2 upon an enlarged scale as compared to Fig. 2.
Figs. 5 and 6 show in front inside elevation, the blank for the folder back upon a relatively smaller'scale than Figs. 1 and 2, Fig. 5 showing the blank in initial extended unfolded position, and Fig. 6 showing the blank in partly folded position, ready to receive the inserted picturecarrying leaves,
, Fig. '7 is a fragmentary perspective view upon an enlarged scale as compared to Fig. 5, showing the adhesive connection, I
Figs. 8 and 9 show an alternative construction,- Fig. 8 being a top edge view of an alternative form of folder, and Fig. 9 being a front perspective view. I
Fig. 10 is a front perspective view upon a. somewhat smaller scale showing an alternative form of folder with transparent envelope receptacles, and
40 Fig. 11 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view upon the line ll-ll of Fig. 10.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 6, the folder has a back A, leaves B, the back and leavescarrying the pictures or photographs C.
' As shown in Fig. 5, the blank isformed with two outside sections, l0, two intermediate sections II, a central fold line ii, the adhesive connections l3 and the side fold lines I4, Closely adjacent the fold lines M are the fold lines I5 and I6, which form the short folds or indentations, in which the leaves 3 are to be inserted.
The leaves B as shown in Fig. 2 'are'inserted and fastened between the sections l1 and I8 formed by the fold lines ll, 15 and I6, and are held firmly in position by an adhesive, eyelets,
or metal clips, an adhesive construction for example being indicated in I9 on Fig; 2, while a clip or eyelet attachment is indicated at 20in Fig.4.
With the adhesive connection l3, there is provided an adhesive patch 2| covered by the removable tab 22, which upon removal permits the back of the picture to be applied to the adhesive patch 2| and to be permanently mounted upon the particular sections In or II or on either side of the leaves B which is to receive the picture.
The members 20 diagrammatically indicated in Figs. 3 and 4 may have snap fastening connections as indicated at -23 vin Figs. 3 and 4 by which the folder may be snapped or locked in a closed position as shown in Fig. 3.
' It will be noted that the folder in folded position as shown in Fig. 3 is very compact and may be readily carried in ones pocket, while when open as in Figs. 2 and 4 readily permits display of at least eight pictures or photographs.
It is also noted that the construction is quite simple being formed of a single blank A with two inserted leaflets B, as indicated in Figs. 5 and 6.
Instead of the snap fasteners, it is also posleaves 31 which terminate at 38 and form inte-,
grai or one piece continuations of the leaves 85.
Each of the inside faces of this one piece folded construction, which maybe unfolded as indicated by the arrows 39, carries a picture adhesively or otherwise connected to the face thereof as indicated at 40, 4|, 42 and 43.
It will be noted that the folder of Fig. 8, although of one piece construction, both in respect to the back and interior leaves carries the same number of pictures on display as the embodiment of Figs, and 11. In the latter, the leaflet has a central fold line 50 with the intermediate back sections 5i and the outside back sections 52. The interior leaves 53 consist of a folded sheet of Cellophane or Pliofllm or other thermoplastic transparent sheet material having a bond line at 54. This transparent material has folded sections 55, thermoplastically sealed at 58 and two pictures may be received through the top opening 5'! in back-to-back relationship.
The transparent sections 58 and 59 may be formed in one piece with the double section 55 and adhesively connected to the backing 52 and ii by lines of thermoplastic sealing indicated at 60, 6|, 62 and 63.
Eight pictures then ,may be inserted, four in the openings, 65, at the ends of the sections SI and 52 and four more back-to-back in the open ings 51 at the tops of the sections 55.
Many other changes could be eifected in the particular features of the display folder and in methods of usage set forth, and in specific details thereof, without substantially departing from the invention intended to be defined in the claims; the specific description herein merely serving to illustrate certain elements by which, in one embodiment, the spirit of the invention may be eflectuated.
What is claimed is:
1; A photographic display folder comprising a booklet formed of a back having a transverse median fold and further transverse folds dividing said back into sections of uniform width, leaves fixedly attached to portions spaced from said median fold and free to hinge inward from said further transverse folds-each of the sections of the back and both faces of each of the leaves having means for mounting photographs.
2. The combination recited in claim 1 in which the edges of the leaves engage the respective further transverse folds and are adhesively connected with respect thereto.
3. The combination recited in claim 1 in which the leaves comprise envelopes of transparent material, each having a transparent extension beyond the hinge mount thereof, which is adhesively connected to the face of the corresponding back section.
4. The combination recited in claim 1 in which the leaves comprise envelopes of transparent material each having a transparent extension beyond the hinge mount thereof, which extension is adhesively connected at its upper and lower edges to the face of the corresponding end section of the back to form with said back a further envelope.
5. The combination recited in claim 1 in which each section and leaf has an adhesive photograph mounting patch covered by a removable tab.
