This invention relates to Weapons such as pistols, revolvers, rifles and other guns wherein compressed air or other gas is used as a propulsive medium for a projectile.
More particularly the invention relates to a compressed air cartridge for such weapons.
In weapons of the general type known as air guns or "air pistols it is common to provide a chamber permanently in or on some part'of the weapon and so connected to the barrel that a charge of compressed air may be admitted behind the projectile to propel the latter from the barrel. The repetition of discharges from such a weapon makes it necessary to repeatedly recharge the compressed air chamber which is a time consuming operation.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel compressed air cartridge for a weapon of this type which cartridge may be employed with the same facility in loading as the ordinary powder cartridge.

In the embodiment of the invention shown in the present drawing the weapon parts are indicated in general at 5. This weapon includes a barrel 6 having at its rear end a cartridge chamber 1. A breech closure 8. is arranged at the rear of the barrel and is movable into and out of breech closing position, the means for so actuating the breech closure not being here shown as they form no part of the present invention. Having thus' described my invention whatl claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
The combination'of a gun having a cartridge receiving chamber, an annular boss formed on the inner end of the barrel of the gun and extending into the cartridge chamber with a bore therein aligning with the bore ofthe gun, said 7 boss being of lesser diameter than that of the cartridge chamber, a, compressed air cartridge having an enlarged bore in its forward end dis- .p'osed in the cartridge chamber with its bore disposedrearwardly of the boss of the gun and in alignment therewith when in normal position, a spring closed valve in the forward end of the cartridge and having a projectile receiving bore communicating with the compressed air chamber of the cartridge, said valve having its for- Ward end extending into the bore thereof'in close opposed relation to the boss of the gun, and means carried by the gun to simultaneously force 1 "the cartridge toward the barrel of the gun and open the valve by pressing it against the boss of the gun to eject a projectile retained by the valvein alignment with the bore of the gun.
