1 Claim.
My invention relates to bath tubs, and particularly to an open type of tub supported on legs which are permanently attached thereto. The tub is stamped as a unit from a sheet of metal and provided with a rolled edge. The legs are stamped from a sheet of metal from a single die and shaped on the top to. fit the contour of the lower corner of the tub. The top edge of the legs is flanged inwardly so that the legs may be permanently attached by welding. The legs are of V-shaped construction, with the inner faces opensince these faces are invisible. The edges of the inner faces and the floor engaging portions are also flanged inwardly and are joined by an angle member to provide material strength.
Accordingly, the main objects of my invention are; to provide a set of legs for a bath tub which are formed in a single set of dies and further shaped at the top to conform to the contour of the tub; to form legs of V-shape construction having flanges at the open faces, the top portion will become apparent when referring, for a better understanding of my invention, to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

The tub l comprises a sheet of metal which has been formed into a tub body having a rolled rim H at the edge. Faucet openings l2 and a drain opening l3 are provided in the drain end 7 vided-in'the bell end thereof. v 1 A' set of four legs l are welded to the bottom V of which is formed to the contour of the tub to which the top flanges are welded; to form a set of the tub, while a sloping end portion of the tub to form a unit construction therewith. The set of legs aremade from the same dies and are substantially of V-shape in section, as illustrated in Fig. 5. A front face I6 is arcuately 6X5 tended at the sides, at H, and flanged inwardly at the front. at I 8. The bottoms offthe sides I1" and the front face I6 are flanged inwardly at l9 and 2|, respectively, to provide a supporting surface. The flanges I8 and I9 are joined to each other at adjacent and opposite corners by an angle shaped bracing element 22'. I A plurality of indentations 23 are provided around the lower end of the legs for the purpose of ornamentation.
The front face l6 of the leg is curved inwardly toward the tub at the top which shape is followed by the flanges l8 at the inner edges of the leg. All of the legs are constructed from the single set of dies and are therefore exactly the same. Additional forming tools are provided for the rear and the right and left front legs to shape the top thereof to conformto the shape of the arcuate corner portion to which the legs are joined. After being-so shaped the top edges are formed inwardly to provide a flange 24 by which the welding operation is performed between the tub and the leg.
In View of the slope to the tub, the top'formais different so that a tool and fixtures must'be provided to shape the-tub contour and the flanges 24 on each of'the front legs to conform to the particular shape of the curved lower edge of the tub to which the leg isattached. Th drain end thelegs directly under the tub, this face is left open. The legs and outer surface of the tub is finished as a unit, either by porcelain enamelling or bypainting or spraying an enamel thereon. 7 A base coating of porcelain enamel may be placed over the inner and outer surface and the inner surface finished with porcelain enamel while the outer surface is finished by painting over the base coating of enamel.
The tub formed in' this manner is of unit con- 7 struction and the legs provide asturdy appearr ance in view-of the box section type of construction. Various means may be provided for ornamenting the legs other than the indentations 23 and other shapes besides the particular V-shape herein illustrated may be employed. What I claim is: I
In a bath tub, a tub proper made from a single sheet of metal having, a rolled edge and faucet and drain openings, and a set of four legs for said ftub each of which are V-shaped in transverse cross section having flanges at the bottom and inner face and having a top flanged edge conformingto the contour of the tub at the point of engagement where they areweldedto form a permanent'unit construction. 1
