This invention relatesto garments, and more particularly relates to a novel sportsmans coat or jacket construction containing an integral pocket or pouch into which the coat may be folded for convenient carryingor storage.

It is among the objects ofthe present invention to provide a novel garment particularly sportsmans apparel, such as a coat, shirt, jacket, orthe like. The garment is provided with a pocket,

Strips I5 may be of the same cloth the'pouch and garment are made of, or of other material such as leather, metallic links, or the like. Pouch II is preferably of arectangular ,form and the size of a usual pocket. Its internal volume is such as to comfortably contain'jthe garment I0 when it is folded therein.

An important feature of the present invention is to provide means permitting the pouch I I to be used either from the inside or outside of the garment. Towards this end a slit or opening I6 is arranged adjacent the mouth I4 of the pouch I I. The length of slit I6 corresponds to the width of the pouch and extends to the position of hinges I5, I5. Pouch .I I may be thus readily drawn from the inside of the garment to the outside position shown in Fig.1. Fig.2 shows pouch. I I on the inside. of. the back face 12 of the "coat III. The

slit lfipermits one to reach into pouch I! from the outside when the garment is worn. Thusthe pouch maybe used as-a .p'ocket to store items, with thepouch'll either on thefinside or the outside or .the jacket. The advantages of such construction are readily apparent. The location of pocket II on the rear face I2 oi the garment,

towards one sidasuch' as the right side as shown in Fig.1, permits golfers, for example, to hold golf balls, tees,'etc. for ready access, and yet does not interfere with the golfers swing or play. Where, bulky items are held in pouch -II the outer positionthereof as shown in Fig. 1 is h the preferable one forv minimum interference with the comfortable wearing of the jacket. The

inside position, corresponding to 2 is the less conspicuous one. A flap .I-I is provided above slit IS. A snapiastener element I 8, such as a socket, on flap l1, coacts with an element I9,- such as a stud, on pouch H. Thus, when pouch H is on the outside, the flap l1 closes the mouth 14 thereof. A similar stud 20 is preferably arranged on face [2 of the coat so that the flap I! may be snapped down thereon when pouch II is on the inside position corresponding to Fig. 2. It is however to be understood that the provision for the snap fastener elements is optional and may be otherwise if desired.

A socket 2| is arranged on the opposite face of I pouch H in order to coact with stud l9 to close the mouth M of the pouch when the garment II] is contained therein. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the pouch H with the garment folded therein.

Socket 2!! on the face of pouch ll closes the pouch when in this condition. In order to store the coat in the pouch, the coat is first folded and rolled up. The folding of the coat is such that it ends at the hinges l5, with the pouch ll projecting from the folded body. Since the hinges space the mouth l4 of the pouch from the garment, and the remainder of pouchiH is separated therefrom, it will now be evidentthat the garment may be stuffed or' otherwiseiinserted 'into the pouch. A further form of the invention is illustrated in Fig. 5. The carrying pocket or pouch 26 is arranged on a face 21 of the garment, which face may be the rear corresponding to 62in Fig. l,

The modification'of Fig. 5 lends itself to. the constructionwherein the pouch is used to replace the regularpatch'pocket' of the garment. 'I-Iowever, it is to be understood that the pouch 25 may be used" in conjunction with a patch pocket, on the garment so that both have their separate'utility. One face of pouch .25 contains'an extended portion 28, which portion is tacked or sewn horizontally along the garment portion 2?. The edge of the forward face-of pouch 253 is lower'than the edge 36 of the rear face thereof seen in" Fig. 5. The extending portion it constitutes" 'a'hinge'for the pouch which permits the pouch to be inserted into the opposite 'side' of the garment face 21 through a slot'dfi arranged parallel with audacijacent to theupper'edg'e' 33i0f thepouch. Slot 2-Hv corresponds to slot 'ie inFig. 1 and permits the pouch to'be worn'on either side of the ga"'- merit. It is to be understood'that the pr'ovision for such slotsis optional. An important'feature in the invention however, is the detached arrangement of the pouch from the garment and the mouth or opening of the pouch being spaced substantially from the plane of the face of the garment to which it is attached. In this manner the garment may be folded up and fitted into the pouch through they spaced opening or mouth thereof, without tearing, stretching, or any forcing action. The flap 32 is arranged on the inner slot 3[ above the edge 30 of pouch 26. A snap fastener element 33 is provided on fiap 32 to coact with a snap element 34 on the pouch 26.

Although I have shown preferred embodiments for carrying out the principles of my present invention, it is to be understood that variations and modifications may be made falling within the broader spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.

What I claim, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is:

1. A combination body garment and container therefor, said body garment being provided with a pouch of 'a' size to contain the garment in a folded condition thereof and comprising a pair of opposite side walls connected together along edges thereof, the garment having a slot disposed adjacent the to'p'of the pouch and extending in substantial parallelism therewith and substantially co-extensive with the width of the pouch, the pouch having a connection at its top with the'garment and adjacent the slot and from which connection the body of the pouch is loosely suspended and otherwise free from the garment, said connection being such as to permit of the pouch beingpassed through the slot in the garment from either side thereof to lie loosely suspended from said connection selectively at opposite sides of the garment, the top edges of the pouch being mutually unconnected between the ends of said edges, and said unconnected edge portions defining therebe'tween an entrance opening for the pouch and through which the garment in a folded condition may be introduced into the pouch.

2; A combination body garment and container therefor, said body garmentbeing provided with a pouch of a size to contain the garment in a folded conditionthereof and comprising a pair of opposite side walls connected together along edges thereof; the garment having a slot disposed adjacent the top of the pouch and extending in substantial parallelism therewith and substantially co-extensive with the width of the pouch, the pouch havin a connection at its top. with the garment and adjacent the slot andjfrom which connection the body of the pouch is loosely suspended and otherwise free from the garment, said connection being such as "to' permit of the pouch being passedthrough the slot inthe garment from either side thereof to lie loosely suspended from said connection selectively at opposite sides of the garment, the top'edges of the pouch being mutually unconnected between the ends of said edges, andsaidunconnected edge portions defining th'erebetween an entrance opening for the pouch and'through which the garment in a folded condition may beintroduced into the pouch, and means for detachably securing together the side walls of thepouch at the unconnect'ed top edges thereof. J

3. 'A combination body garment and container therefor, said'body garment being provided with a pouch of a size to contain thegarment in'a folded condition thereof andcomprising a pair of opposite sid walls connected together along edges thereof, the garment having a slot disposed adjacent the top of the pouch and extending in substantial parallelism therewith and substan tially co-extensive with the width of the pouch, the pouch having a connection at its top with the garment and adjacent the slot and from which connection the body of the pouch is loosely suspended and otherwise free from the garment, said connection being such as to permit of the pouch being passed through the slot in the garment from either side thereof to lie loosely suspended from said connection selectively at opposite sides of the garment, the top edges of the pouch being mutually unconnected between the ends of said edges, and said unconnected edge portions defining therebetween an entrance open ing for the pouch and through which the earment in a folded condition may be introduced into the pouch, and a closure flap carried by the garment upon the outer side thereof and disposed to close the slot in the garment and the open top of the pouch When the latter is at the outer side of the garment. 4. A combination body garment and container therefor, said body garment being provided with a pouch of a size to contain the garment in a folded condition thereof and comprising a pair of opposite side walls connected together along edges thereof, the garment having a slot disposed adjacent the top of the pouch and extending in substantial parallelism therewith and sub stantially co-extensive with the width of the pouch, the pouch having a connection at its top with the garment and adjacent the slot and from which connection the body of the pouch is loosely suspended and otherwise free from the garment, said connection being such a to permit of the pouch being passed through the slot in the garment from either side thereof toclie loosely suspended from said connection selectively at opposite sides of the garment, the top edges of the pouch being mutually unconnected between the ends of said edges, and said unconnected edge portions defining therebetween an entrance opening for the pouch and through which the garment in a folded condition may be introduced into the pouch, and means for detachably securing together the side walls of the pouch at the unconnected top edges thereof, and a closure flap carried by the garment upon the outer side thereof and disposed to close the slot in the garment and of a width to extend below the top of the pouch.

5. A combination body garment and container therefor, said body garment being provided with a pouch of a size to contain the garment in a folded condition thereof and comprising a pair of opposite side Walls connected together along edges thereof, the garment having a slot disposed adjacent the top of the pouch and extending in substantial parallelism therewith and substantially co-extensive with the width of the pouch, hinge connections between the top of the pouch and the garment above the slot therein whereby th pouch is loosely suspended and otherwise free from the garment, said hinge connections being located at opposite ends of the top of the pouch and permitting of the pouch being passed through the slot in the garment from either side thereof to lie loosely suspended from said hinges selectively at opposite sides of the garment, the top edges of the pouch being mutually unconnected between the hinges, and said unconnected edge portions defining therebetween an entrance opening for the pouch and through which the garment in a folded condition may be introduced into the pouch.

6. A combination body garment and container therefor, comprising a body covering portion having a pocket slot therein, and a garment carrying pouch member secured adjacent said slot, the pouch member having opposite side walls secured together along edges thereof and unconnected along top edges thereof, the unconnected top edges defining therebetween an entrance opening for the pouch, one pouch wall projecting substantially beyondthe other at the entrance opening of the pouch and said wall projecting portion only being secured to thegarment at one edge of the pocket slot therein, the opposite wall and the pouch body being otherwise free of attachment to the body covering portion of the garment.
