Description
(NoModeL) W. H. CHAOE. Machine for Stretching Leather Belting.
Patented Sept;- 21, I880.
NPEYERS, FHOYO Lm-m "ER, WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT Osman,
MACHINE FOR S'l'RETCHlNG LEATHER BELTING.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 232,454, dated September 21, 1880.
Application filed May 25, 1880.- (N model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAMH. CHAOE, of Fall River, State of Massachusetts, have invented a Machine for Stretching Leather Belting, of which ihe following is a specification.
Figure 1 of my invention is a representation of a side view, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
This invention has relation to machines for stretching leather belting and retaining the samein a stretched condition a sufficient length of time to prevent the leather belting so stretched from losing the degree of tension to which it is stretched.
It consists in the novel arrangement of a delivering-drum, a removable receiving-drum, guide-flanges on each side of the latter, conepulleys and connecting-belt for varying the speed of the receiving-drum, the belt-shifter, and removing-screw for the receiving-drum, all as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter O designates the drum on which the belting to be stretched is wound, and from which it is delivered to the receiving-drum B, which is arranged at a suitable distance from the delivering-drum on the frame A, running between the guiding-flanges F F, one of which is adjustable by means of a screw, H, passing through a threaded box, E, on the frame, and serving as the journal for the said flange 13". By means of these flanges the belting a is kept straight as it is rolled on the receiving-drum.
Between the delivering and receiving drums are journaled, on the frame, the cone-pulleys A A, which are connected by a shifting-belt, b, the position of which on the pulleys, which taper in opposite directions, is governed by the arms 0 of a shifter, d, which is moved by a transverse screw, G, journaled to the frame of 40 the machine.
D represents a friction-pulley attached to the fixed flange of the delivering-drum and engaging with a brake or friction-arm, e, and serving to keep a uniform stretch on the belting while being wound, preventing the delivering-drum-from slipping and running too fast faster than that of the deliveringdrum, this
rate of speed being regulated by the governing-cones A A. This coneconnection also serves to prevent the belt from breaking under undue strain because it is not rigid, but is effected by means of a friction-belt, 12.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s- 7 In a machine for stretchingileather belting, the combination of the delivering-drum O and the removable receiving-drum B, having the flanges F F, the latter being adjustable by means of screw H, with the cone-pulleys A A, having the belt I) to regulate the motion of said receiving-drum, and the transverse screw G for operating the shifter d, substantially as specified.
