3 Claims.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in jewelry and particularly to an improvement in what is commonly referred to as costume jewelry. The device disclosed includes a plurality of relatively movable parts by the selective adjustment of which different legends may be made to appear on the device.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of costume jewelry having adjustable elements whereby a date, such as a birth date or the current date, may be made to appear thereon at will.
One of the features of the invention is a piece of costume jewelry having movable members which may be separately adjusted, one to disclose the day of the Week, one to disclose the month and another to display the day of the month. This adjustment may be effected by a rotary movement of a part of each of said members.
Other objects and features will appear from time to time as the description of the invention progresses.
It is believed the invention will be readily understood from a detailed description thereof, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 represents a bracelet which consists of three series of reversible beads, one series for the day of the week, one for the month and one for the day of the month; and
Fig. 2 is an exploded view of the parts of the bracelet of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing in which like reference characters indicate the same parts in the several views, I denotes a series of elongated beads which will be strung on a cord 2, preferably of elastic material. Each of the beads or blocks I will have engraved or otherwise displayed thereon the name of a day of the week as Monday, Tuesday, etc. As shown, but seven of these beads or blocks are provided, one for each day of the week. If preferred, however, fourteen may be provided, the name of each day of the week then appearing on two of the beads or blocks, preferably at opposite sides of the loop.
At 3 is shown a series of beads or blocks which are preferably strung on a cord similar to 2. There will be thirty-one of these beads which will be inscribed with numerals from 1 to 31, respetcively.
The twelve beads or blocks 4 are preferably strung on an endless cord 2' and will be inscribed with names of the months, respectively. The blocks I, 3 and 4 are so proportioned that all of the three loops are of approximately the same size and when on a wearer will preferably be held in close relative relationship by some encircling means as a ribbon or cord 5. If desired, a plurality of encircling bands, such as 5, may be provided.
As the beads l, 3 and 4 are strung on supporting cords, such as 2, they may be readily adjusted so that a birthday, current date or any desired date may be caused to be displayed in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1.
The beads need not be strung on elastic cords, as 2, but may be supported on relatively inelastic cords, the ends of which may be detachably secured together by a well known type of clasp such as, for instance, the clasp shown in Patent #1,622,770, granted March 29, 1927.
While in the drawing and in the above description a preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed, it is to be understood that modification of the details of structure are contemplated, as well as the application of the inventive concept to other articles of costume jewelry not herein disclosed. lhe invention should, therefore, be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a bracelet, a plurality of series of beads, the beads of the several series being supported on flexible members, respectively, of substantially the same length, the beads of one series being inscribed on one side thereof with the names of the days of the week, respectively, the beads of a second series being inscribed on one side thereof with the names of the months, respectively, the beads of a third series having inscribed on one side thereof numbers corresponding to the days of the month, respectively, and means for maintaining said several series of beads in close relationship, the beads of each series being so mounted as to permit any desired bead to be positioned with the legend thereon directed outwardly and the several series of beads to be moved relative to each other to permit legends corresponding to any desired date to be displayed outwardly adjacent each to the others.
2. In a bracelet, a plurality of series of beads, the beads of the different series being supported on flexible members, respectively, of substantially the same length, beads of each series being inscribed on one side thereof with a series of related legends, respectively, and means for maintaining said several series of beads in close relationship, the beads of each series being so mounted as to permit any desired head to be p0- sitioned with the legend thereon displayed outwardly and the different series of beads to be moved relative to each other to permit the displayed legends to be positioned adjacent to each other.
3. In a bracelet, a plurality of series of heads, the beads of the several series being supported on flexible members, respectively, the beads of one series being inscribed on one side thereof with the names of the months, respectively, another series having inscribed on one side thereof 10 jacent to each other.
FLORENCE MARIANO.
